## What is Shield?

The apps that eat your day stay shut until you've earned them back. You pick which apps, and you set the three goals that open them.

SET AT LEAST THREE. EARN YOUR APPS.
Every morning, set three goals. Anything real: a walk, a chapter of a book, a phone call you've been putting off. Finish all three and the apps you chose open until midnight. Leave them, and the shield stays up. Add daily habits too, and they count towards the day.

A BEDTIME FOR YOUR PHONE
Pick a sleep window and a wind-down hour, and your apps shut themselves at the time you set. No goals to finish, nothing to decide at 11pm. Free, for everyone.

FOCUS BLOCKS
Start a timer, say what you're working on, and your apps stay shut until it ends.

FRIENDS, NOT A FEED
Pick a handle and add a few people. You'll see each other's daily goals, and how many days in a row you've each finished them. You both have to agree before either of you sees anything. No algorithm, no strangers, no feed.

AN HONEST WAY OUT
Need fifteen minutes rather than quitting cold? Lower the Shield, three times a day, on your own terms. Shield is a commitment device, not a cage.

YOUR SCREEN TIME STAYS YOURS
Shield runs on Apple's own Screen Time. Your app choices stay private even from us; Apple hands the app an anonymous token, never the names of the apps you picked. History shows you where your time actually went, and none of it leaves your phone. No ads, nothing sold.

Shield is free and there are no in-app purchases. An account takes about twenty seconds, and is what keeps your goals and your friends when you change phones.

Shield isn't a willpower app. It's a trade: do the things that matter, and earn back wasted time.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2.0 — 2026-09-25

Circles are now Friends! and a few things you asked for:

• Shield now needs a free account. It's what keeps your goals and your friends when you change phones, and it takes about twenty seconds.
• If you were in a circle, you already have those people as friends. Nothing to do, they're added as your friends.
• Friends: pick a handle, search for people, and see each other's day. You both have to agree before either of you sees anything.
• Streaks. How many days in a row you've finished everything you set. See your friend's too, help keep them on track.
• Tap anyone to see their profile: who you both know, and how they're doing.
• Night: set a bedtime and a wind-down hour, and your apps shut themselves. Free, for everyone.
• Reminders read better and no longer arrive at the same minute every day.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-08-19

Fixes and small improvements.

- Your circle now shows everyone's goals reliably. Some people appeared not to have set their three when they had. that's fixed, and any circle that went missing comes back o its own when you open the app.
- Reminders keep arriving. They could stop after a day you didn't open Shield.
- A reminder from a circle-mate now reaches you straight away, instead of waiting until you next opened the app.
- Tomorrow's three can be seen and edited from the Today tab.
- A shorter, clearer invite message when you share your circle.

### 1.0 — 2026-08-13

No release notes.
