## What is ShifRoll?

ShifRoll is a shift work calendar with alarms built in. Put your roster on the calendar once, and the right alarms ring on the right days. Made for nurses, security officers, hospitality and retail staff, drivers, and anyone whose week isn't nine to five.

Not on shifts? It works for every day too: wake-up alarms that stay quiet when you mark a day off, the rent memo on the 1st of every month, and your family's calendar beside yours.

YOUR ROSTER, ON A CALENDAR
• Make your shift types once, such as Day, Night and On-call, with their times, codes and alarms. Making a group asks for them all at once, and one tap fills in a common set of shifts.
• Tap a day and pick a shift. Rotations such as 4 on, 4 off, and weekly or monthly routines fill whole months for you.
• Import the whole month from an Excel, CSV or PDF roster, or a photo (Premium), and check it before anything is added.
• Three calendar sizes: the full month with each day's shifts by name, the month with the day's list, or one week.
• Mark a Holiday and that day's routines are skipped. Holidays from your phone's calendar can do the same: turn on Treat as holidays, and Calendar holidays skip routines.

ALARMS THAT WAKE YOU
• Each shift brings its own alarms: before it starts, as it starts, or when it ends.
• Alarm sets, like the Clock app: a first alarm and a few more, repeating on the days you choose or ringing once. One switch for the whole set.
• Full screen and full volume, through your phone's own alarm system.
◆ On iOS 26 and later it rings on silent and in Focus, with nothing to set up.

SEE IT AT A GLANCE
• A Home you arrange: next alarm, today, tomorrow, weather and your memo.
• Widgets for your Home Screen.
◆ And for your Lock Screen.
• Memos and checklists on any day, repeating weekly or monthly if you like.

PAY, WORKED OUT FOR YOU
• Hourly rates, unpaid breaks, shift bonuses and a monthly pay, counted from the shifts you already keep.

FRIENDS AND FAMILY
• Add a friend by code, choose what to share, and see each other's calendars side by side: coworkers, a partner, your family.

PREMIUM
• Sync across your devices, and choose which one rings
• Import your roster from a file or a photo
• Up to 10 alarms in each alarm set
• Voice input (Beta) after the first ten tries
• Mix your own colours

In English, 繁體中文 and 简体中文.

No alarm app is perfectly reliable. Test ShifRoll for a day or two before relying on it for a shift you can't miss.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### v4.17.0 — 2026-10-28

Friends, made simpler — and alarms you can skip.

• Who can see this: each of your groups is shared with Everyone, only Close friends, or Nobody. A new group starts at Nobody. • Close friend: one button on a friend's page. Advanced there turns a single group on or off for that friend alone. • The Friends tab now has two sides, like the Library: your sharing groups, and everyone, close friends first, with today's shift and first event. • Every friend has a page: what they see of you, the sharing groups they're in, and their days laid out by the hour, two at a time; scroll for more. • A group's table shows Shifts, All, or Free. All gives every shared item its whole name and time. Free shows the week hour by hour: green when everyone is free, redder as more are busy. Tap a block to see who is free and who is busy, and choose the hours, how many must be free, or who. • Pick a few friends on the tab to check their days once, and save them as a sharing group if you like.

• Colleagues: a Home card for one sharing group — who is on which shift, today or tomorrow. • Alarms: the Next alarm card is now a list of today's shifts and alarm sets with alarms ahead. From an hour before the first alarm, Skip silences the ones still ahead; Restore brings them back. Turn on "Can't be skipped" for an alarm Skip must leave on. On iPhone this needs AlarmKit. • Combinations: Rotations are now called Combinations, and a day can hold more than one shift — a split shift is a one-day combination. • Daily summary: it now lists the day's memos too. • Widgets: add your own photos on the Widgets page and pick one as the widgets' background; each widget can choose its own when you edit it. The photos stay on this phone.

Your sharing groups have been moved to the new choices. Please check "Who can see this" on your groups. Using two devices? Update both.

### v4.16.0 — 2026-10-20

Alarm sets, quicker shift setup, and monthly pay.

Alarm sets
- Your alarms now come in sets, like the Clock app: a first alarm and up to 3 more in each set, or 9 more with Premium. Find them in Library → Alarm sets.
- Repeat a set on the days you choose, or let it ring once. One switch turns the whole set on or off.
- Put a set on any day from the calendar, for a day it doesn't usually ring.
- Skip routines and Holiday quiet a repeating set. A set you put on a day rings that day anyway.
- Stopping one alarm leaves the rest of the set ringing at their times. The Home card says which alarm of the set is next.
- Your alarm groups became sets, one for each alarm, and they still ring.

Set up your shifts
- Making a group now goes on to its shifts: a name, a code, the times and the alarm for each. One tap fills in three 8-hour shifts, two 12-hour shifts or office hours for you to change.
- Pay and repeat days come next, for groups that use them.
- Add more at once with Add several shifts on a group's page.
- In a work group, a shift with the same times as another is flagged before it's added.
- No work group yet? Tap Work on the calendar to make one.

Pay
- A group can have a monthly pay, counted once a month beside your shifts' pay. Set it on the group's page.
- A rest-day template can carry pay, for paid leave.

Holidays and rest days
- A Holiday now also skips your routines that day. To keep them ringing, turn Skip routines off on that day.
- Holidays from a calendar on your phone can skip routines too: turn on Treat as holidays for that calendar, and Calendar holidays skip routines in General.
- A rest day no longer quiets your other routines. Use Skip or Holiday for that.
- Tell Voice input (Beta) "I'm off tomorrow": it puts your rest day on, or marks a Holiday.

Two phones
- Once both phones are updated, your changes to shifts, events, templates and groups merge: an edit on one phone no longer undoes an edit on the other, and any of them you delete stays deleted.
- Signing in to an account with a backup always brings in the account's data. The sign-in screen says so first.
- Using two devices? Update both.

Calendar
- Drag the bar under the month for three sizes: the full month with each day's items by name, the month with the day's list, or one week.
- + adds an event straight away. It goes in No group unless you choose a group. An event in No group rings only on the phone you add it on.
- Each day's row starts with Template, then Holiday, Memo and Skip routines. Tap Template to put one of your templates on that day.
- Any all-day event can be a day off, in any group.

Around the app
- Settings is in five sections. Settings → Widgets shows every widget, the Lock Screen ones too, and how to add them.
- The Daily summary has its own page, where you choose the groups it covers.
- Leaving an editor with unsaved changes asks first.
- When a group becomes Work mode, you're asked before its shifts are shared with friends. Nothing is shared without a yes.

### v4.15.0 — 2026-10-12

Import your roster, and memos that repeat.

Import your roster (Premium)
- Bring in the whole month from an Excel or CSV file, a PDF, or a photo of the printed sheet. Open the Calendar's Work view and tap Import roster.
- Tap your name. Only your row is imported.
- Excel, CSV and PDFs with text are read on your phone, and nothing is sent. A photo is sent to be read, after you agree the first time. A PDF page your phone can't read is sent only when you say so.
- The codes on your roster are matched to your Library. For a code it doesn't know, pick a template, make a new one, or leave the day empty. It can remember your name and your codes for next month.
- A roster that shows times instead of codes works too, including two shifts on one day.
- Check the month before anything is added, and tap a day to change it. Shifts already on those days go to the Recycle bin.
- A PDF with a password opens once you type it. The password isn't saved.

Repeating memos
- Any memo can repeat: weekly, monthly on a date, monthly on a weekday such as the first Tuesday, or every few weeks. Give it an end date, or let it run.
- Change one, and choose "This memo only" or "This and future memos". Delete one, and choose that memo only or "Stop repeating" from there on.
- Move a memo to another day. For a repeating memo, move just that one, or move it and let the ones after it follow.
- Settings → Repeating memos lists them all.
- Deleted a memo by mistake? It waits in the Recycle bin for 30 days, on the phone you deleted it on.

Routines every few weeks
- A routine can repeat every 2 to 12 weeks on the weekdays you choose, counted from the start of each period.

Voice input (Beta)
- Change one day's times as you say it: "Night tomorrow, but 11pm to 8am". The template in your Library stays as it is.
- Start a rotation by voice: "Start 2 on 2 off from Monday".
- The check sheet shows each shift's times, so you can see a change before you add it.
- You'll be asked to agree once more before your next send. The sentence about who reads your words has changed.

Using ShifRoll on more than one device? Update all of them. An older version doesn't show repeating memos or routines that repeat every few weeks.

### v4.14.0 — 2026-10-03

Voice input: tell ShifRoll your week, check it, add it.

Voice input (Beta)
- Say or type your week in your own words, like "Night shift Tuesday and Wednesday, day off Friday". ShifRoll turns it into calendar items: shifts from your Library, days off, skipped routines, memos and one-off events.
- Nothing is added on its own. Every item is shown to you first: untick what's wrong, change your words, or say it again.
- It knows your shift codes, in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
- Tap the microphone on Home, or hold the + button on the Calendar. It starts listening straight away, and nothing is sent until you tap Send.
- Settings > Voice shows how many times you have left and sets the language it listens for, so you can keep the app in English and speak Cantonese or Mandarin.
- Every account can use it 10 times. With Premium, keep using it every day.
- It needs a signed-in account and a connection. It's a beta: check each item before you add it, and tap Report a misread when it gets one wrong.

Traditional Chinese (Taiwan)
- 繁體中文（台灣） is now its own language, with Taiwan's words for shifts, pay and the calendar. Hong Kong wording stays as 繁體中文（香港）.
- New to ShifRoll? It now starts in your iPhone's language.
- Already using Traditional Chinese with your iPhone's region set to Taiwan? ShifRoll switches to Taiwan Chinese once and tells you. You can switch back in Settings > General.

More than one memo a day
- Add another memo to a day from that day's Memo button. Each memo has its own note on the Calendar and Home, its own ticks and its own colour.
- The Memo widget cycles through a day's memos, and tapping one opens that memo.
- Use ShifRoll on more than one device? Update all of them. An older version can remove the extra memos on a day.

Pay
- A paid rest day now counts. A rest day set to all day with a shift bonus pays its bonus, as a shift of 0 hours. An all-day day with no bonus stays unpaid.
- A pay plan with only a shift bonus pays it for every shift.
- An all-day event that runs over several days pays its bonus on each day.

Help
- Help was rewritten for today's screens, and nine screens have Help for the first time: Home, Rotations, Routine dates, Team, Recycle bin, Pay plan, a group's page, starting a new group and External calendars.

Also fixed
- On a phone set to ring only some groups, the others could ring right after the app started, or on the day a subscription renewed.
- A clock-out alarm on a shift spanning several days could be dropped if you opened the app on the day it was due.

### v4.13.1 — 2026-09-28

A memo widget you can tick, and a calendar that remembers where you were.

Memo widget
- Put a day's memo on your Home Screen, small or large. Tick items straight from the widget; the app catches up the next time you open it.
- Show tomorrow instead of today — it's a widget setting, so you can keep one of each.
- More than one memo on a day? A button in the corner cycles through them, and the arrows at the bottom page through a long list.
- Each memo keeps its own paper colour, so one glance tells them apart.

Ticks stay on this phone
- Ticking an item no longer travels to your other devices; the words still do. A tick is about the phone in your hand.

Around the app
- Every widget now carries a large, faint mark of what it is.
- The calendar reopens in the view you left it in, month or week.
- Stamping shifts on the calendar is immediate — the grid no longer waits for alarms to finish setting.
- A shift that starts and ends at the same time is a full 24 hours, in the calendar and in pay.
- A pass over the pay screens: rates, rounding and totals all agree now.
- Traditional and Simplified Chinese had a wording pass.

Also fixed
- An alarm with no name showed "null".
- An overnight or 24-hour one-off shift could hide the next day's rotation.
- Changing a tone, vibration or name now reaches alarms that were already set.
- Editing a pay rate's date no longer takes pay away from past shifts.
- The Shortcut sync message showed internal names instead of words.
