### 5/5 — Genius

*2020-10-03*

Whoever thought about making this app is a genius; thank you so much for making my workouts fun.

God bless you!

**Developer response:** And thank you for giving us this amazing review!

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2020-09-24*

I always listen to podcast during my work out and have to switch back-and-forth with music when I do cardio for instance. Now I can listen to both and it switches back-and-forth automatically. You can set them on a time you want it’s a switch and it works great.

**Developer response:** Love it! Thanks for the review!

### 5/5 — Fantastic For Weightlifting!

*2020-07-12, version 2.1.0*

I use to have to manually switch between podcasts and music, and ended up just getting fed up and choosing one.

This is perfect!

### 5/5 — Super useful for podcasts and hard sets

*2020-02-24*

It would also be nice to have speeds up to 3.5x.

**Developer response:** Duly noted! We'll look into supporting this :)

### 5/5 — Great Idea

*2020-01-31*

Lots of potential and the devs are good at communicating

**Developer response:** Way too late to the party, but thanks!

### 5/5 — UX is on point

*2019-12-02*

As a full time web/mobile developer myself I gotta say the UX (user experience, or how the app is laid out and works) and UI are super clean and on point. Very intuitive. Only thing I wish it could do is hook into pocket casts and mark an episode as played, and/or maintain my listening history. But that’s a super nit picky thing to ask for, so I understand.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback! Syncing playback state across apps would indeed be... amazing. Unfortunately there's no way to do that without partnering up with other apps. Hope it doesn't cause too much pain!

### 5/5 — Indispensable workout companion

*2019-05-19, version 1.5.5*

Fixes a problem I didn’t know I had and does it beautifully.

I absolutely love the art style too.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2019-05-11, version 1.5.4*

This is probably one the few apps that genuinely fixes a problem I never knew I had.

You have to try it!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2019-04-25*

Really needed this app! Tried listening to podcasts while lifting and since I usually listen to comedy, laughing in the middle of the set started to become really dangerous so this probably has saved my life!

**Developer response:** That's literally one of the reasons we started building Shift. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Works perfect especially with AirPods.

*2019-04-12, version 1.5*

Just finished my first workout and it this app was a game changer. I used its default settings. Chose a podcast. Connected Spotify. Found a playlist and started my workout. Lifted to music. Tapped my ear and switched to a minute of podcasts. When music came back I knew it was time to hit it. Then tap tap, and I’m back to podcast. Awesome.

### 5/5 — It’s an app I didn’t realise I need in my life

*2019-04-09, version 1.4*

I absolutely ADORE this app. It never even occurred to me to listen to podcasts during my rests while doing HIIT exercises as let’s be honest it’s too much hassle to switch from music, listen for maybe 30 seconds, and then have to turn back to music.
This app cuts out all of this faffing about!
The only drawback I can think of is the podcasts I listen to are rather lengthy (60+) and it would be useful to be able to choose the start time of a podcast (let’s say I listen to half of an episode on Spotify and would like to finish while working out in the evening)

### 5/5 — Good app

*2019-04-02*

I don’t know how many people need (or want) to switch between podcasts and lifting music but I sure do! This is an awesome app! You can even set your rest timer so you can ensure that you only rest the proper amount of time. I thought that I was the only one who liked podcasts during workouts. I don’t know this developer but he has put together a sweet app for intelligent gym rats!! Well done.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Unable to use

*2024-04-04, version 5.4.5*

Downloaded and redownloaded and restarted my phone, when I press ‘see all’ plans nothing works and when I press purchase, nothing happens. I intended to use this service but I assume the app is no longer in use

### 1/5 — Not a good fit

*2019-04-02*

App told me I wasn’t a good fit... what a waste of time

**Developer response:** Hi, truly sorry you were one of the first people to experience Shift in it's very beginning. The onboarding experience was, to say the least, horrible. It's now in a completely different place, and I hope you get to try it out. Cheers!

### 2/5 — Trouble with adding podcasts

*2020-07-13, version 2.1.0*

App keeps crashing on the discovery section for podcasts making it impossible to add any, which kind of makes the app useless. I don’t currently use any of the integrated podcast platforms, though there is technically a way to still get podcasts from other services (just not easily from an i-device) I get it, Apple locks their devices down and I shouldn’t gripe about not having free rein over being able to easily port information over.
Another annoying issue is I connected Spotify and it can’t seem to see/find all my playlists. There’s a playlist I like that’s a fair bit down in my lists because I’ve saved a few (and I’ll admit it’s one of the oldest lists I have on there, but I still listen to it) this doesn’t find it.

### 2/5 — doesn’t work

*2019-04-12*

I really like the idea behind it, and I enjoyed looking through the different things this app has to offer when I first downloaded it... now all it does is buffer then crash. It won’t let me do anything anymore.

**Developer response:** Really sad to hear you had this experience! And so sorry for the (way too) late reply. Lots of bugs have been removed since you had this horrible experience. Hopefully it should all be much better now! Anyway, sorry again for the inconvenience, and thanks for giving us a review!

### 3/5 — Buffers and crashes

*2019-04-16*

I'd love to support your awesome idea (which is the reason I'm not doing 1-star) but I've tried several times to get this working and have only had frustration with it. Hopefully you work out the bugs, I'll give it another try in a couple months. Best of luck.

**Developer response:** We're truly sorry you experienced this. The app is in much better condition now, and we'd love for you to give us another chance!

### 3/5 — Simple and easy to use with some bugs

*2019-04-11, version 1.5*

Came here from Reddit and loved it at first glance and the idea overall.

Went to Spotify and accidently closed the pop up window login, and it never pops back up ever again.

The UI for Spotify leaves a lot to be desired. I can’t search tracks or see my own playlist made in Spotify? Kind of crappy. Feels restricted and will probably keep me from using it unfortunately.

Would love to see support for SoundCloud and Audible.

Great start!

### 3/5 — Really?! It needs improvements

*2019-04-03*

Hi, I just came from Reddit and wanted to check it out.

Bad: Remove the quiz intro. Don’t tell the customers whether they’re a good fit or not. You have to realize people come to this app for different reasons. Maybe you did this because you don’t want people to ask or complain about things beyond the basis of this app. Perhaps it’s better to do objective explanation at the beginning

Good: Nice design. Easy to use. It has many options to satisfy customers’ needs.

**Developer response:** Hi, thanks for your review! And sorry for the late feedback. The first few iterations of the app did indeed have terrible terrible user experience. It's pretty much completely changed since then. Hope you'll find your way back into our app, in case we might still be a good fit to your needs!

### 4/5 — Love the concept

*2020-10-12*

The only issues I have is, the volume of the audio never stayed consistent and the podcast paused when I left the app

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review! You may already know this, but when you change the volume during a workout, it will only change volume for either podcasts or music, and not the other (depending on if you're listening to podcasts or music). The reason we have two volume controls is that many people prefer to be able to set a different podcast volume, because the podcast itself can sometimes have a lower volume.

Regarding the pause issue you had, we're sorry you experienced this, and it is something we are currently looking into! If it happens again you could try to shift back-and-fourth with your headphones, that should simply start the podcast again, and you won't have to bring up your phone.

Thanks again, and really hope this helps a little!

### 5/5 — Thank you

*2022-10-02*

Spotify update works great thank you, it makes rest time a breeze. I had wanted something like this for a few years and was thrilled to see someone take the leap. Hope the app takes off. Thanks for the work you put in

**Developer response:** Hi! We just released a version with a new Spotify integration. Hope you get to try it out, and please share with us any feedback you may have.

Best!

### 5/5 — Great developer and app

*2021-06-15*

I’ve been studying for exams, and I subscribe to a review podcast. I wanted to listen to it during my daily workouts, but there are those times when I need to focus on the workout and can’t pay attention to the podcast. Then I found this app. It’s exactly what I needed. The switching using the pause button on my headphones is great.

I had a question about the app and submitted a feedback request at the beginning of my workout. The developer had replied with the answer, complete with a video tutorial on how to fix my issue by the end of my workout 😎 Major props to the developer. Thanks for the app!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the review! And good luck with your exams 👊

## Most praised reviews (8 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Wow way to go!

*2021-02-24*

I downloaded it through someone who recommended it on reddit ages ago. Loved the idea but never used it. Just checked back again and wow it’s come really far. Dope app. Love the dedication to the project.

**Developer response:** Hey, Michael here, one of the makers. So glad to hear you came back to check it out! We're just a small group of people who loves working out to podcasts, so we'll always be improving the product, for ourselves and you all. Please reach out if you have more feedback or want us to improve in any way. Cheers!

### 5/5 — I love this app

*2021-02-08, version 2.4.2*

Awesome for when you need the motivation music brings but your still interested in learning from podcasts.

### 5/5 — Yep, this app rules!

*2021-02-07*

Okay so I just used the app, like right now, sweat dripping and all. Let me just say, I can’t believe nobody thought of this amazing app before! I absolutely love it.

Never did I think to podcast while I ran because I’m not really interested in listening to an entire podcast while I’m running, but a podcast while I’m resting ... YES!

Now I may even start to run with a podcast because this app affords me the opportunity to automatically switch between the two!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the kind review! Really motives us to improve

### 5/5 — Break from the music

*2021-01-07*

This app provided great music to work out to and offers a nice break with podcasts to keep it interesting!

**Developer response:** Thank you! 🙏

### 5/5 — Changed the game

*2020-11-24*

Dumb changed the game

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! If you're not a fan of the game-mode feature, you can turn it off from the settings menu. Hope that helps!

### 5/5 — How Apps Should Be

*2020-11-02*

This app does what it says: lets you ‘shift’ from music to podcasts with the touch of a button. Straightforward, as it should be.

What stands out is the amazing developer! He not only reached out with a welcome email, but asked for feedback and provided regular, immediate correspondence.

Best of all, the suggestions I made were incorporated into the app within a few weeks!! I can see he really wants the app to be as functional and tailored to user needs as possible.

If you like both music and podcasts during your workout, get this app. If anything feels clumsy, tell the developer and he’ll fix it, just like that. Win-win!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for this review! It really motivates us to keep improving Shift ❤️

### 5/5 — Top app

*2020-10-22, version 2.2.0*

Been using Shift for about 6 months and during that time it's got better and better. Easy to use and a great concept.

### 5/5 — Super awesome, actually helpful app

*2020-10-09*

Was gaming and came across this add for Shift. It’s pretty cool. Basically it is a timer but while the timer is running music plays for the workout of choice (strength, running, cardio, maintaining). You set the range, let’s say 3 minutes of intense exercise for every minute of ‘rest’. During the rest periods a podcast will play. It is cool because you set the timer and forget scrolling or fussing with technology and can complete your interval training. It is really that simple.

**Developer response:** Wow, thank you so much for your review! Really motivates us to keep improving Shift. Keep up the good work!
