## What is Shio?

More free recipe saves

New accounts start with 10 social imports. After that, the Free plan refills to 5 every Monday. Save from TikTok, Instagram, RedNote, Baidu, and more. Recipe websites, screenshots, and cookbook photos remain unlimited; failed imports and recipes you review without saving never count.

Your recipes are scattered across saved videos, screenshots, browser tabs, and cards in a drawer. Shio keeps them together and ready to cook, with the ingredients, steps, and grocery list already organized. Even when the original recipe is in another language.

Save from almost anywhere
- Import recipes from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest, Substack, RedNote (Xiaohongshu), Lemon8, Baidu, and Cookpad.
- Paste a link from Safari, Chrome, or a recipe website. Shio pulls out the recipe, minus the backstory and the ads.
- Share a recipe directly to Shio from another app.
- Photograph a handwritten recipe card or cookbook page, or choose a few screenshots. Shio reads the recipe for you.

Recipes across languages
- Translate ingredients, amounts, and steps into English, Spanish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, or Traditional Chinese.
- Cook from recipes written in most major languages.
- Use Shio itself in English, Spanish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, or Traditional Chinese.

Cook without scrolling in circles
- Follow one step at a time in large type.
- See each step's ingredients directly underneath it, so you do not have to scroll back up with wet hands.
- Tap a time such as “3 to 5 minutes” to start a timer, and run more than one at once.
- Keep the screen awake while you cook.
- Change the serving size or switch between US and metric measurements.

Grocery lists that remember the recipe
- Add recipes and Shio builds a grocery list sorted by aisle, combining amounts across recipes.
- See which recipe each item belongs to, including a per-recipe breakdown for combined ingredients.
- Check items off without making them jump to the bottom of the list. They stay put, clearly crossed out.

Find and organize what you saved
- Search ingredients, steps, and notes, not only recipe titles. “The soup with the fried garlic” is enough.
- Group recipes into collections, add tags and notes, and edit the title, ingredients, steps, or photo.
- Mark recipes as cooked and remember what you made.
- Keep recipes available offline and synced across your devices.
- Share a recipe with a link. The other person does not need Shio.

Plan the week
- Add breakfast, lunch, and dinner to a weekly meal plan.
- Turn the plan into one combined grocery list.
- See estimated calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat per serving with Pro.

Free and Pro

The Free plan includes 5 saved social recipes each week after the 10-import starter allowance. Website and photo imports do not use this allowance. Pro removes the weekly social-import limit and adds nutrition estimates, the cooking assistant, recipe export, and unlimited dietary adaptations.

Shio Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription that renews automatically. Prices are shown before you confirm. Cancel in Settings at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

Food-rule note: Shio can help adapt recipes and flag likely conflicts. It does not certify recipes for allergies or medical diets. Always verify ingredients, labels, and cross-contact risk when relevant.

### 5/5 — Super useful

*2026-08-19*

Finally able to save down my fave red note and baidu recipes. Also super fast for Instagram imports, even if it’s gated by DM or link in bio. Don’t know how they do it tbh

**Developer response:** I'm very glad you find Shio's Rednote and Baidu imports useful :)

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.3 — 2026-09-08

Ingredient ranges now convert correctly in metric mode, and grocery lists display cleaner ingredient punctuation. Shio Pro also shows annual savings using the current App Store price. This update includes smaller launch, sign-in, and reliability fixes.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-08-26

Your free imports refill every Monday. Save up to 5 recipes a week from TikTok, Instagram, RedNote, Baidu, and other social platforms; new accounts start with 10. Recipe websites, screenshots, and cookbook photos remain unlimited. Failed imports and recipes you review without saving do not count.

Shio 1.0.2 also makes imports easier to follow and grocery lists easier to use.

• Import progress now stays visible from your cookbooks, with clearer recovery when a recipe finishes while you are away and better retry options when one fails.

• Grocery items show which recipe they came from. Combined items include a per-recipe breakdown, and checked items stay exactly where they are with a clear strike-through.

• RedNote and Baidu imports are more reliable, especially for RedNote short links and posts with limited captions or audio. Recipes you already reviewed no longer return as new, and invalid App Store links are rejected sooner.

• Recipe formatting is cleaner: duplicate preparation notes are removed, metric mode converts spoon measurements, Japanese and Chinese units use familiar labels, and ranges such as 2–3 or 50–70 g remain intact.

• Japanese, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese now extend through the native iOS experience, including localized camera and photo-library permission text.

• Pro status and onboarding now reflect active subscriptions and renewal state more accurately.

Also included: clearer headers, new ingredient icons, and smaller interface and reliability fixes.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-08-17

New in 1.0.1:

• Import recipes from Apple Notes by sharing them to Shio, or paste the recipe text directly.
• Add groceries from this week or next week’s meal plan.
• Better Chinese, Japanese, and Korean imports, translations, text layout, and ingredient icons.
• Redeem App Store offer codes from Shio.
• Fixes for incomplete RedNote and Baidu translations, keyboard coverage, and several layout issues.

### 1.0 — 2026-08-14

No release notes.
