## What is Shire?

Shire is a horse who lives in a lantern-lit stable. When your child's head hurts, she goes and tells him about it — and that conversation is the whole diary.

A DIARY A CHILD CAN KEEP HERSELF
No forms, nothing to type. Shire asks one gentle question at a time and she answers by tapping: when it started, which Wong-Baker face matches the hurt, where it hurts, what else feels wrong, what might have set it off. It is written down as she said it — and if she isn't sure, "I don't remember" is always one of the answers.

HE NEVER NAGS
Shire doesn't scold, guilt-trip or hand out medical advice. If a headache is still going, he asks after it kindly for a few days and then lets it rest — a headache is never closed automatically. If she told him something wrong, she can say so, and the record is corrected without erasing what was there before.

WHAT THE DOCTOR GETS
From the Grown-Ups area, one tap builds a PDF for the neurology appointment: headache days per month, intensity and duration, time-of-day patterns, where the pain sits, symptoms in clinical language (photophobia, phonophobia, visual aura), reported triggers, missed school, and a complete episode log. It reads the whole diary, including records kept in earlier versions of the app.

ALSO IN THE GROWN-UPS AREA
• A calendar of headache days and check-in days — and a way to fill in a day that was missed
• Time anchors: teach the app what "at lunch" or "after school" means in your house
• Choose how long Shire keeps asking about a headache that is still open
• Her progress: stars, streaks and rosettes, earned for showing up and telling the story — never for having headaches
• Backups you can save and restore at any time

MADE FOR IPAD, AT HOME ON IPHONE
The stable is a full-bleed scene on iPad and a comfortable single column on iPhone, with big tap targets throughout.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Every entry is a plain file in your own iCloud Drive and syncs only between your devices. No accounts, no ads, no tracking, no analytics. Your family's health data stays yours.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 2.0 — 2026-07-24

Headache Personal Diary is now Shire — and the diary has been rebuilt from the ground up.

Instead of buttons and forms, your child tells a horse called Shire what happened, one gentle tap-choice at a time, in a quiet lantern-lit stable. Everything the neurologist needs still comes out the other end.

What's new:
• The whole capture experience is a conversation — when it started, how much it hurts on the Wong-Baker faces, where, what else feels wrong, and what might have set it off
• Shire never nags, never guilt-trips and never gives medical advice; an open headache is asked after kindly for a few days, then left alone, and is never closed automatically
• "I don't remember" is always an answer, and she can correct anything she said without losing the original record
• A calmer calendar, and the same one-tap PDF report for the doctor — now reading both the new diary and everything recorded in earlier versions
• Stars, streaks and rosettes for showing up and telling the story, never for having headaches
• A new Grown-Ups area: time anchors, how long to keep asking about an open headache, backups, and sync diagnostics

Your existing records are safe and still appear in the report.

### 1.2 — 2026-07-12

You can now write down a headache after it happened — tap any past day on the calendar to add it, complete with start and end times, faces, and what might have caused it.

Also new in this version:
• Missed a day check-in? Backfill or change it from the calendar too
• Logging a headache that started earlier? Mark it already stopped in the same step
• Fix start and end times, remove mistaken check-ins, and change today's answer
• A headache accidentally left running from yesterday now gently asks if it's really still going
• After it stops, an optional "Did the medicine help?" question — with answers tallied per medicine in the doctor's report
• Headache days now ask about missed school or activities, counted in the doctor's report
• Headaches lasting past midnight now count every day they touch
• If something doesn't save, the app says so and lets you try again
• Bigger, easier-to-tap pain faces
