The cons: a (yawn) average puzzler that seems to exist independent of the story, a disappointing intrusion of Roman astronomy with Japanese theme (couldn’t use Japanese star maps?). I found myself just skipping through the puzzles with the nicely graded hint system just to see how the story ends and the game visually concludes. No learning curve to progress or improve. Didn’t understand the scoring or why I got it wrong again and again, even though I got to the golden mountain. Without the help button I would have deleted, but I persevered to the bitter end in ever decreasing hope. The sad and deathly story that kept popping up between my failures, left me depressed and I paid for this privilege! Can there be more instruction before you let us stagger through the next story? However, I have to admit, very stylish and handcrafted graphics with atmospheric and oriental noises to accompany the player. Unfortunately, it feels crude and half finished. It is apparently so non-intuitive that practically every screen needs English directions. It has a great look, but parts don't actually seem to work. For example, at the beginning it tells you to turn the box by swiping, but there is no box; you're supposed to understand this to mean that the screen is one side of a box. On the screen called genzai, you're told that "you can drag from one moon to another if the other moon has equal or more drops" (told you it was verbose), but this isn't true, instead the game enforces a seemingly arbitrary move order. Wish I could get my money back. **Developer response:** Thanks for leaving your review, and we are sorry to hear that you're unhappy with these first helping bits in the game. We will discuss ways to make them more clear in the next update. It would be helpful to have that defined. I feel like I’m just guessing. Nice visuals and interesting game otherwise. **Developer response:** Each time you start dragging a connection from a moon that has no incomming connection yet, you are creating a newly initiated connection. That moon then becomes hollow. On the other hand, moons that continue a connection stay filled. Hope this helps! ### 3/5 — Beautiful but extremely frustrating *2019-08-24* This game is gorgeous, I love the design and the story - but the puzzles quickly descend into utter idiocy. Once the moving drops come into the game, there are so many moving factors that thinking up the solution becomes plainly impossible and you are left to either endlessly try things or use the help option all the time. Such a shame, I would love to continue through the world this game creates, but the puzzles make me want to smash my phone against the wall. ### 3/5 — Stunning art and story line but severely boring gameplay *2019-03-12* I mean beautiful art and everything but severely lacking in the entertainment department. You guys need to change up the game play a bit ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Beautiful, atmospheric, great puzzle game *2026-06-20* Beautiful graphics and sound design, with Japanese mythology and language woven into it. ### 5/5 — Relaxing and beautiful *2026-01-09* SHI•RO is a gentle and relaxing puzzle game with an interesting story, simple but challenging enough gameplay and nice music all wrapped in a gorgeous lawyer box style. ### 5/5 — Good quiet brain teaser *2022-10-06* The graphics and pace of the game establish that this is a quiet challenge and it turns out eventually a satisfying and rewarding one if you can slow down enough. I found myself hitting points of frustration but the choices are purposefully limited so it’s only a matter of time that I would return to a puzzle and solve it and there was my reward. The logic can become tricky but when you distil it down to the mathematical choices it becomes instinctive. The reward becomes greater when you crack a system for the dancing dots (although I always have to spend time remembering what that system was). Very lovely and refreshingly distinctive.
