## What is Shoebox for Papra?

Shoebox makes managing your self-hosted documents simple. Scan paperwork, organize files, and find what you need — all from your iPhone or iPad, with your documents stored on your own Papra server.

Built as a native iOS client for Papra, the open-source document management system, Shoebox brings scanning, searching, organizing, and sharing together in one convenient app.

Your documents stay on your server. No Shoebox account, no subscriptions to a hosted service, and no tracking.

Shoebox connects to your existing self-hosted Papra server over HTTPS using a Papra API key. A Papra server is required; Shoebox does not host documents.

SCAN & FILE IN SECONDS
- Scan paper documents directly with your camera. Combine multiple pages into a single PDF.
- Import documents from Photos or Files, individually or in batches.
- Save PDFs and other documents directly from compatible apps using the iOS Share Sheet.
- Background uploads keep documents moving, even when you leave the app, subject to iOS background execution.
- Duplicates are recognized, with a quick link to the copy you already filed.

FIND ANY DOCUMENT
- Browse your entire document library in one place.
- Search document titles, content, and tags using Papra's powerful server-side search.
- Use convenient search shortcuts for tags, names, content, and advanced queries.
- Filter documents by tags and browse tags with document counts.
- Sort by filing date, document date, or name.
- Preview PDFs, images, and supported files with Quick Look.
- Export or share original documents whenever you need them.

STAY ORGANIZED
- Rename documents and edit their document date and notes.
- Manage multiple Papra organizations. Easily switch between personal and business documents, and choose where new files are saved.
- Add, remove, and create tags to keep everything organized.
- View document activity history and custom properties from your server.
- Browse deleted documents and see when they're scheduled for permanent removal.

BUILT FOR IPHONE, IPAD & IPHONE DUO
- Secure Shoebox with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode, with customizable automatic locking.
- Use Siri and Apple Shortcuts to scan or search documents.
- Find indexed documents through Spotlight search on your device.
- See recently filed documents with a Home Screen widget.
- Enjoy a dedicated iPad interface with a sidebar, document library, and preview displayed together.
- On iPhone Duo, unfold for your library and an open document side by side, with nothing across the hinge, and fold again without losing your place.

APPLE INTELLIGENCE
On compatible devices, Shoebox can suggest document titles using Apple's on-device intelligence. Recognized text is processed locally for title suggestions, without sending it to an external AI service. Accept a suggestion with one tap or simply ignore it. All other Shoebox features work without Apple Intelligence.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
- Your documents remain on the Papra server you control.
- Your API key is securely stored in the iOS Keychain.
- No Shoebox accounts or hosted document storage.
- No ads, analytics, telemetry, or tracking.
- No third-party SDKs — built with Apple's native frameworks.

GETTING STARTED
- Set up or connect to an existing Papra server with HTTPS enabled.
- Generate an API key in your Papra settings.
- Enter your server address and API key in Shoebox.
That's it. You're ready to scan, browse, and organize your documents.
