### 2/5 — Flawed research

*2018-05-18, version 1.1.2*

Seems cool but the research is flawed. Smoking two cigarettes a day reduces your life expectancy by over 5 years, but the air pollution in LA or Western European cities only by about 1-2 years. No way they are comparable!

**Developer response:** This is very interesting. Please contact us via email, we can discuss this more in details.

### 2/5 — Need to be able to manually update location.

*2018-05-04, version 1.0.2*

Need to be able to manually update location, otherwise this is quite useless.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. We have added a Change Location feature in the latest version (v1.1.2).

### 2/5 — Location and maneuverability are piss poor. Concept is wonderful!

*2018-04-27, version 1.0.2*

I live 53 miles from where the app pinned me down and as I’m not allowed to correct it I cant get my real reading. I don’t know how it could be so far off with my phone connected to a GPS satellite?
I went on Air Now from the EPA and the put me in the green with an Air Quality Index of 33. Ozone at 33 and Particles (PM2.5) 23. I wonder if that gibes with what you folks came up with.
More options with being more maneuverable/adjustable maybe a space to enter my zip code.

### 2/5 — Inaccurate location—developers should add an option to manually change location

*2018-04-27, version 1.0.2*

I am Washington DC but the app is registering that I am in Rockville, Maryland. That’s 14 miles away and probably has very different air quality. There should be an option in the app to manually set your location, or to search other locations (what about where my parents live? Etc). I really like the idea of this app, it just needs some tweaking.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We just released a new version where 1/ we fixed the GPS and 2/ we added a Change Location button.

### 2/5 — Location was way off

*2018-04-26, version 1.0.2*

This was useless for me. I live in Cairo which has a serious air pollution problem and the app gave me the reading for Sderot Israel which is over 200 miles away and separated by both desert and sea. It also likely has much cleaner air than Cairo. It's a cool idea just very limited. I'm deleting it.

**Developer response:** We're sorry to hear your experience. The GPS was not entirely working in the 1st version, we fixed it in the newest version. However, I just double-checked, there are unfortunately no Air Quality Stations near Cairo. One of our goals is to encourage installations of Air Quality Stations in developing countries.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Data timed out

*2021-08-15, version 1.8.14*

Whatever city I choose (Chicago, Oregon) it says I’m sorry “data times out”. I’ve yet to see any results. I hope the next version fixes this

### 1/5 — Deleting this app

*2018-08-23, version 1.1.3*

While I find the information fascinating, I see no reason to add the disgusting expletives. This is not something I want to see on my devices & would be mortified if a friend or worse yet, a child were to see. I am deleting this app

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. In our latest version 1.2.0, we have deleted the profanities.

### 1/5 — Inaccurate

*2018-05-10, version 1.1.2*

I checked half a mile from the Santa Monica Bay but it rated based on the 710 freeway which is 17 miles inland, i.e., 17 downwind of pollution sources from my location.

After ~9 May update the app won’t launch.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear your bad experience. I would like to help you troubleshoot to investigate more. Could you get in touch via the App Website?

### 1/5 — Why can’t I just enter my location?

*2018-05-06, version 1.1.2*

I downloaded this app while in Kathmandu. The app repeatedly failed to find my location. I ended up searching the internet and finding an article that told me that the air quality was equivalent to smoking 10 cigarettes a day. The app never worked. I tried the app again once I returned home to Colorado. It pegged my “location” as a town 130 miles from here on the other side of a monstrous mountain range and much closer to an industrial city. So I guess I’ll search the internet again for the information I thought this app was designed to provide.

**Developer response:** I'm very sorry to hear your experience. The GPS was indeed not working in the 1st version, but we fixed this bug in our latest version (v1.1.2).

### 1/5 — Dumb

*2018-05-03, version 1.0.2*

Dumb that you can’t select other locations and compare or compare from your current location. Would be much more meaningful.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. We have added a Change Location feature in the latest version (v1.1.2).

### 1/5 — 30 miles off.

*2018-05-01, version 1.0.2*

This app does not work, it asked for location services access and chose Camp Pendleton. However, I’m in Irvine.

Further, it apparently has no option for just choosing a location on the map.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. We have added a Change Location feature in the latest version (v1.1.2) to manually select your location.

### 1/5 — This is not an app

*2018-04-29, version 1.0.2*

This is a funny website that is hard to use because you have to download an app and can only access it from the app. Plus, the location finder isn’t accurate and you can put in a location manually. Cool idea but totally bizarre execution.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear about your experience. We fixed the GPS in our newest version (v1.1.2), and added the possibility to manually change location.

### 1/5 — Not accurate

*2018-04-28, version 1.0.2*

Was showing an area over an hour south of me which is a much more urban area.

### 2/5 — Cool app but 1 flaw.

*2021-08-14, version 1.8.14*

This is a really cool app that should have many users. There is just 1 flaw that I can’t seem to find answer to. If the solution is there it needs to be more obvious. How many hours would you have to breathe in the air for it to be equivalent to the estimated amount of cigarettes? This information means nothing to me because I am assuming you would have to breathe that air in for a 24hr time period for it to equate to the estimated number, which I doubt very many people are doing. If this is not the case and it is less than a 24hr period I’m sure these numbers would hit home with a lot more people. Also the likely hood of people to share this apps information would probably increase. I think the estimated number should be adjustable based on the number of hours spent outside. I also understand the AQI is a consistently fluctuating number but I would say the average stays within a reasonable range of the starting 24hr time period.

### 2/5 — Cool idea, thinks everyone is in Middle East

*2018-08-28, version 1.1.5*

It kept telling me the only location was somewhere in the Middle East.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Really good!

*2018-12-23, version 1.2.0*

I have downloaded and used all the air quality apps in the Apple store. This is one of my top 2 favorites because the data is updated frequently and the information is easy to understand. Also you can drill down to really detailed data if you want, and the transparency helps you decide for yourself whether the numbers are legit. All in all, 5 stars. Keep up the good work.

### 5/5 — Still dividing AQI by 22?

*2018-11-28, version 1.2.0*

11/27/2018 The quick response to bug reports makes this great idea a 5-star app!
11/9/2018: Latest update supposedly fixed a bug calculating with AQI instead of PM 2.5 ug/m3 concentration, but today’s estimate of 8 cigarettes is derived from AQI=181 instead of 5 cigarettes based on a concentration of 113.6 PM 2.5. Maybe I don’t understand what airnow is reporting, and 181 is actually PM 2.5 ug/m3. Their labeling seems ambiguous. I’m giving one star to get your attention and will update it based on an explanation.

### 5/5 — Solid

*2018-11-23, version 1.2.0*

Really solid app. Can’t be sure how accurate the conversion is, but seems reliable.

### 5/5 — california fires

*2018-11-16, version 1.1.5*

i live in the sacramento area and the weather app says we’re currently under hazardous air quality with an air quality index of 330. This app is great for showing you how bad/good the air is.

### 5/5 — Location issues have been fixed!

*2018-05-14, version 1.1.2*

A lot of these reviews are complaining about being locked into the wrong gps locations.

The developer has fixed the gps location issue to be more accurate, also you can manually set your location.

I am using the app in South Korea and it works like a charm.

Great work!

### 4/5 — Great app, minor issues

*2020-09-16, version 1.7.2*

I LOVE this app. It’s an easy and interesting way to see the air quality near me.
However, out of nowhere, it has stopped updating the AQI near me. It says the nearest station was updated 4 months ago, despite it being updated and working yesterday.

### 4/5 — Nice concept!

*2018-05-09, version 1.1.2*

Cool app, nice concept. Simple to use and reactive developer!

### 4/5 — Location did not work

*2018-05-05, version 1.1.2*

Feature to allow choosing a location did not appear, in fact it looks just like the first version. Did you upload the wrong version to be downloaded? Really cool app though

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear that. This is indeed a weird issue, as all of our other iOS users confirmed to have a Change Location button on the top right in the latest version (v1.1.2).

I would like to investigate this. Please go to our App Website and contact me, so that I can have a look personally into this problem.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2018-04-25, version 1.0.2*

Really useful app. I just wish you could change the location to see other areas

**Developer response:** Thanks! In the new version (v1.1.2), we added a Change Location feature, we'd love to hear your thoughts.

### 3/5 — Inaccurate

*2018-04-26, version 1.0.2*

Location is inaccurate. Tagged me in Florida while I am in Mexico. Great concept, though

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. GPS was indeed not working well in the 1st version, but we just uploaded a new one (v1.1.2) where it has been fixed.
