## What is Shortence?

A perfectly ordinary day: the news comes in, and your English grows with it.

Shortence turns what people are talking about today into English you see, hear and keep. No textbook, no word lists to memorise, no old exam papers. Just a few minutes, on a small screen, whenever the day leaves a gap.

ONE WORD, TEN SECONDS
Swipe through vertical clips. A short film shows the word, a voice says it, then its meaning, then a sentence that uses it. Bookmark the ones you want and play your saved words on their own.

THE NEWS, MORNING AND NIGHT
Two briefings a day on what is happening now, in natural spoken English. The transcript follows the voice and each word lights up as it is said. Tap a line to hear it again.

STORIES WORTH FOUR MINUTES
Single stories on science, technology, culture, cities and more, told the way a good radio presenter would tell them.

READ A LITTLE
Short pieces on the same day's subjects, one paragraph at a time.

RECAP
A few questions after each podcast and passage, with a one-sentence explanation, so you know it stuck.

YOUR EXAM, IF YOU HAVE ONE
Working towards an English test? Choose it and see what suits it. Not taking one? Leave it off. The English is the same English people actually use.

FREE AND PREMIUM
Free: every reading passage, a daily allowance of new word clips (the ones you have seen stay open), and the first 60 seconds of every podcast. Premium is an auto-renewable subscription (monthly or annual) that opens full podcasts and transcripts, Recap questions, the exam setting and unlimited word clips. Apple shows the actual price before purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple Account, and the subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it in your App Store account settings.

No account to create. Briefings and stories are written and narrated with AI tools from public news. Shortence is not affiliated with or endorsed by any exam provider or news organisation.
