### 4/5 — Powerful App, Weak Development

*2023-12-02, version 4.11.1*

This studio was ahead of its time, facing resistance in an underdeveloped App Store market. Now, with AI and VR gaining momentum, and many drawn to 3D prototyping, conceptualizing and ideation.. it's disappointing they didn't evolve their powerful, yet outdated app.

The app boasts an impressive renderer but falls short on essential modern features, leaving space for competitors like Previz Pro & Naomi Animation.

Despite past promises of a new app on the way and volumetric haze (they responded to my email back in 2021 I think), it seems they've given up.

Possibly due to negative feedback or most likely… which is what I think: This team lacks know how on utilizing marketing on social media. (Youtube, Twitter, Insta, FB, Tik Tok.. etc)

Their competitors Previz Pro & Naomi Animation are doing wonders in social marketing and reaping the rewards (yet their product is INFERIOR compared to Shotpro) but they know how to market.. and that’s what matters, so revenue lands in their pockets. While Shotpro sits here weak.

However, if Shotpro ever decides to get out of their low self esteem state and finally be the pro it was meant to be… as a professional user of this app, I highly suggest the following modernizing updates:

- Full-body posing & animation control for all humanoids.
- Complete customization of all 3D assets. (Not just scaling)
- Direct iCloud importing for music, animations, assets, and SFX.
- Expanded 3D asset (GLB, FBX) and audio (MP4, WAV) file support.
- Manual masking using background asset (found in the camera & light section) so we can mask objects within the viewport.
- Transparency sliders for all elements.
- Video and GIF panels for in-scene displays.
- Basic VFX, like blurring.

A comeback with these features would be a massive boost for the pro users of this app (I may be the only imbecile that is a pro user of this app).

### 3/5 — Powerful but sadly, not supported

*2022-04-29, version 4.11.1*

I think there must be only two people supporting this app. Which is an amazing feat in itself.

Unfortunately, I cannot give this app five stars —> AS BAD AS I WANT TO.

For the last year…

I have used ShotPro everyday, I am a vr game designer.

I use ShotPro to create my vision and then import it into a design document using the Craft iOS app, Craft is like Notion, (but catered more towards creators) Craft allows me to mix text, gifs, videos into a document, which our team of developers and 3D artists then gets to see.

I use ShotPro to create animated visualizations, of my designs. I have over 1000 documents with visualizations & animations, I created all in ShotPro.

Therefore it hurts me, to give such an amazing app 3 stars. Which is unfortunate- the potential for ShotPro is galaxies & universes.

However, the areas that lack, greatly decreases my productivity and prevents me at times from clearly presenting my vision.

LACKS THE FOLLOWING: (which I would gladly pay for as dlc)

• The graphical assets we purchase in this app, cannot be modified in specific ways for our unique creations, maybe I just want to extend one arm (make it longer), but make the other arm short. All you can do is scale an entire asset, but no specific modifications can be made. Most of these assets are free maximo assets, I don’t understand why not allow us to tamper with the geometry when we pay for them, in ShotPro to unlock them. This alone highly diminishes the usage of graphical assets.

• Cannot save key frames and label them for later use

• Cannot import 3D assets, music or sound effects from iCloud. They force you to use dropbox, but doesn’t work

• Only accepts wav file not mp3.. mp4.. etc

• Cannot apply transparency to your 3D graphical assets via a transparent slider (can’t ghost an object or make faded)

• No letter, symbol & number primitives (no way of adding text in the viewport) can only use their camera screen text feature

• No way of posing palm of hands, feet, fingers

• Does not save your imported images, you have to keep importing them with every project that intends to use it.

Because of these things, I have started taking courses in Daz3D and Blender to get a level of visualizations, I cannot achieve here.

### 4/5 — Fix mobile bugs

*2022-01-18*

Hi I paid a lot of money for the mobile app I’m using an iPhone 12 Pro Max and I cant import any of my music and I cant delete scenes or move them up or down please fix this on mobile I really like this app. Thank you

### 3/5 — Great for the Price - Need to Fix Posing

*2021-02-22*

Make no mistake, for the price this is a very powerful program. You can do so much with this app. I love almost everything about it BUT the character posing. Posing characters is endlessly frustrating. Arms are always bent in the wrong direction. I can get joints to move where I want them. It’s always such a struggle to pose characters in Shot Pro. In fact, the character posing is frustrating enough for me to dock 2 stars until that element of the program is refined. The posing is especially difficult with the dedicate Mac App. I wish the developer would implement a rotating X/Y/Z orbital posing tool like what is used in Frame Forge. Because just grabbing a point on the skeleton, and wrestling with it endlessly, is clunky and not very efficient. Seriously, if they’d just fix the posing I think this would be the best PreViz app on the market, beating out the big players. I’d even pay more for proper posing.

### 4/5 — Great App, BUT!

*2020-10-30, version 4.11.1*

Really I love this app, easy to use after playing with it for a day. Now my only gripe with the app and the reason I only gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and not 5 is that I would love to get more options are updates of different clothing and hair, like an Afro and different beards and more effects. I would gladly pay for them all and would give this app a 5 star and recommend it on my YouTube channel 🙏🏾 please make it possible.

### 2/5 — Glitchy at best.

*2020-10-06*

I really wanted this to work so bad. I purchases the text package to go with it. Pros are all good for getting basic shots but now i am running to infinite glitches
1-when you set two different camera cuts. All characters items start moving to different positions and moving in a random behavior and no matter how many times i readjust them they go back to that erratic behavior. I am forced to break up a scene to multiple scenes based on the camera cuts.
2- text writing is basically useless unlike other apps which allows you to write on a specific shot or take. This one writes on top of your entire scene sequence. You cant move it unless you establish another sequence.
3- I am not sure if there is something to fix these aspects that i have not learned but their tutorials needs a lot more work and details to make them useful.

### 3/5 — Love the app, but keeps crashing

*2020-07-24, version 4.11.1*

As a TV director, I would use it all the time and recommend it to colleagues... if it could only stop crashing every 5 minutes. Hopefully, this will this be fixed soon 🤞

### 2/5 — Crashes

*2020-06-11, version 4.9.1*

Good app, but why keep crashing every 5 minutes on my IPad Air. Is there any thing I can do to fix it, please help, thank you.

### 4/5 — Can’t install (download) on iPhone X

*2020-02-20*

Love the app, installed on iPad Pro, but I’m having problems on iPhone X doesn’t finish the download, please advise.

### 3/5 — Does not install on iOS 13.3.1

*2020-02-18*

App used to work. After OS update, new version of Shotpro never installs. Hundreds of gigs free on device. Tried to get support on forum with no luck.

### 3/5 — Almost brilliant

*2019-11-25, version 4.6.12*

This app reminds me of the song ‘My Funny Valentine’: I love it to bits in many ways, but there are a lot of bugs and flaws that really need sorting BIG TIME! For example: removing key frames can be frustratingly hit and miss; some animations/facial expressions just don’t seem to work (unless I’m missing something), side bar thumbnails don’t seem to update; why have we got a wide selection of ‘pirate’ and ‘SciFi’ props available, but an incredibly limited selection of every day items? Copying props from one setup to another is a bit of a pain. I’m also annoyed that being able to add simple text to a scene cost me a significant amount extra, as will the ability to print a storyboard from the app. Don’t get me wrong, it’s brilliant in many ways and, for my uses, by far the best visualisation app I’ve used, but there’s definitely room for improvement.

### 2/5 — iphone app seems crowded

*2019-04-14, version 4.4*

seems like way too much going on on the screen for an iphone app. can i cancel this and get the app for my macbook instead?

### 3/5 — Audio

*2019-02-20, version 4.4*

I’ve tried to add custom audio! But never works! Is there a way to add custom audio?

### 3/5 — Great program but...

*2019-01-21, version 4.4*

they really need to remove the AR videos from the AppStore if it is a secondary purchase or state outright that it isn’t included. It’s outright false advertisement and dishonest.

### 2/5 — Disappointed - but Willing to be Impressed

*2018-12-08*

I purchased this application for its AR capability. My first disappointment - it’s a $20 add-on, pushing the price from $40 to $60. That should have been clear pre-purchase.

I can see the potential of the AR, which is what separates this app from tools like Frame Forge which I also use.

Unfortunately, I can’t match the ground plane to the floor. On my iPad Pro, the floor plane hovers about 3 feet in the air - making the scene float above me, rendering my reason for purchasing the app, entirely moot. There has to be a simple way to reconcile the ground plane - otherwise the AR function is useless. This issue exists on my iPad and my brand new iPhone.

There is no documentation that I can find to help me solve this problem. I’ll post to the forum, but this seems like a pretty fundamental function.

So at this point, I’m $60 in and all I have is a pre-vis tool that doesn’t do anything that I couldn’t do before with my existing software.

That’s a disappointment. But I’m willing to be impressed.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. Please contact Customer Support, we’ll be more than willing to help you resolve the issue. This is NOT the expected behavior, the ground in ShotPro should align perfectly with the real life ground in AR mode.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Promising software failed by lack of updates

*2024-05-14, version 4.11.1*

It’s so very disappointing that the developers decided to stop updating this software. Having it on set on an iPad was such a huge bonus but no updates in years. The M4 iPad and an updated version of this software would be formidable. Developers, if you’re reading this please reconsider and bring it back to the iPad it would do wonders with an iPad Pro.

### 1/5 — Frustrated

*2023-02-23*

I have been trying to setup simple shot with custom audio and background the app is not even functioning properly. Is development team doing any changes. I have paid 44$ which worth 0$

### 1/5 — No.

*2022-03-07, version 4.11.1*

Just don’t. You will face more in-apps purchase. It is not good, not worth it. I regret buying this. It feels like money-grab for them. If you are in a desperate need for a storyboard apps, try Previs and Backlot.

### 1/5 — It’s awesome but importing is terrible.

*2022-02-20*

This app could have been amazing but to many versions that aren’t compatible with each other. Importing obj files is a terrible experience. Information on app is very minimal. Customer Service seems sluggish at best. You still have to pay for assists once you buy the app. I want my money back and would rather use the desktop version.

### 1/5 — Have you given up on this app?

*2021-04-02, version 4.11.1*

It seems like you’ve made no attempt to make this usable.

The wall creation is infuriating. You can’t select walls or the handles at the end easily. I’m sometimes pressing 20+ times and still getting no where.

I paid £30 for this. Fix it.

### 1/5 — Paywalls everywhere even after purchase

*2020-01-14, version 4.6.12*

Be warned, a lot of functionality is put behind a paywall, even after you buy the (already expensive) app. VR is behind a paywall. Motion capture is behind a paywall. Adding text is behind a $30 paywall. On top of that you can buy the content packs.
The interface is overcrowded and looks like it was designed in 1998. It is not that easy to use because it doesn’t use modern app UI design language. Lots of taps to get in and out of menus.
The render quality is awful across the board. I didn’t expect the lighting to be realistic, but when the light hits a character’s face but not his hair or eyes which remain black, then there’s an issue.
TLDR; greedy in-app purchases, busy interface, better software exist.

### 1/5 — Scam dont fall for it.

*2018-02-13*

This company sells two different versions of the app i came across this app on my phone and purchased it and realized its too small on my screen and buttons are not visible and couldnt download it on my macbook so i reached out to the company and they said i need to buy the macbook version seperately for the same price and that its cheaper than other apps so i shouldnt have a problem affording both.

This is misleading and disrecpectful.
I am stuck with this app cant get a refund or get the mac version instead.

### 1/5 — Update made app size huge!

*2016-10-28, version 2.8*

I love this app. But after updating to the latest version the app is just under a GB in size. Just nuts...

### 1/5 — Bad

*2016-09-27, version 2.6*

The human and animal animations aren't working on the iPhone 6s app.

### 1/5 — Great concept - want a refund

*2016-09-06, version 2.6*

I bought this originally on my laptop and found it difficult to navigate so I thought I would switch over to my iPad only to find out I would need to pay another $40. Surprising because apps like photoshop don't require a double purchase. Since it is for work I purchased it again. It was okay at first. Hard to learn and would crash about every 30 minutes. It now crashes every 30 seconds. I would gladly continue to use this app if I could actually use it. If it was $10, fine but at a total of $80 I will be seeking a refund for at least one of the purchases.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best out there

*2024-09-03, version 4.11.1*

Even with its imperfections, ShotPro is still by far the most comprehensive, versatile all-in-one application for animation, pre-visualisation and performance capture available on the iPhone.

### 5/5 — love this app

*2024-08-18*

i love this app, but can you give the ios version its own library for assets and for import/export. in the way where i can use my phone storage and never have a problem when starting new scenes. also import/export audio library, basically a library folder. as of now there isn't even an import button for models and the import button for audio doesn't work.

### 5/5 — love you guys, love you guys, love john scott

*2024-08-12*

i love the john scott showcase on the website, but can you give the ios version its own library for assets and for import export. the way where i can use my phone storage and never have a problem when starting new scenes.

### 5/5 — Please Keep Developing This

*2024-07-21*

I love this program and I’m surprised that there is nothing else like it. There are more complex and expensive programs, but this is PERFECT for sketching out ideas. I only wish that they would continue to develop it. They have a subscription desktop version with more features, but it hasn’t updated in years as well. This company is sitting on gold and doesn’t seem to realize it.

### 5/5 — absolutely love it i’m gunna get the pc version too

*2024-01-13*

i love this app i will be using it alot. needs all the expansions for the ios version, also needs the obj. shop but i will be using this a bunch

### 5/5 — The best

*2023-02-02, version 4.11.1*

This has all the bells and whistles so here is more stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

### 5/5 — Great app

*2021-02-12, version 4.11.1*

Absolutely great app for storyboards and concept art!

### 5/5 — Doesn’t get any better!

*2019-07-20*

The best previz program i’ve had the pleasure of using. During prep or right there on set. Simple and quick to use. LOVE that they added pre-made sets too! That makes it even faster now

### 5/5 — Must have for directors

*2019-02-17*

I love this program. Really makes me able to plan my shots and know what I need to tell the story. I create photos for my shot list and storyboard with ease.

### 5/5 — 5 STARS AGAIN

*2018-04-26*

Their new CHARACTER BUILD inclusion in V4 is phenomenal.
This replaces everything you wanted in Adobe Fuse & the redundant Maximo which they killed off. Best of all, you just cut & paste all your existing old characters in old scene builds with NEW CHARACTERS made straight from your own specific design. This new feature is outstanding & makes Shot Pro the go to for Pre Viz & storyboarding. They have really elevated their game with every version.
