## What is Should I Sail?

Should I Sail tells you whether conditions are right to go sailing — before you leave the dock.
Get notified if they ever change before your departure.
Anchor silently, knowing you will get notified if your anchor ever drags.
Tap any point on the ocean and instantly get a clear, color-coded verdict: Yes / Challenging / Requires Safety Gear / Only if You Must / No.
The answer is tailored to your specific boat type, so a 50-ft cruiser and a dinghy get different answers under the same conditions.
See exactly which weather parameters drove the score so you can make an informed call.
ON THE WATER
Your boat pin tracks your live GPS position with compass heading. A speed-over-ground badge shows your knots in real time. The OpenSeaMap nautical chart overlay adds depth contours, buoys, and hazard markers right on the map.
MARINE WEATHER
Full hourly forecasts at any sea point and route you draw worldwide. Wind speed & gusts, wave height & direction, swell, current speed & direction, visibility, and precipitation — all sourced from real marine data. Browse any of the 24 hours in a day, and every metric updates instantly. A compass-rose overlay shows wind, wave, swell, and current directions at a glance.
ROUTE PLANNER
Drop waypoints on the map to plan your sail. Pick a departure time and the app scores every segment by sailing conditions, calculates arrival times at each waypoint based on your vessel's cruising speed, and warns you if any segment crosses land. Save, rename, and revisit routes any time.
TRACK RECORDING
Record your GPS track in the background — survives the app being closed or killed by the OS. When you finish, review total distance, duration, average speed, and top speed. Recording stops automatically when you reach shore. Convert any sail into a saved route.
ANCHOR WATCH
Three steps: place an anchor on the map, enter the chain length and get some rest.
The app looks up water depth automatically from the GEBCO global database, calculates your safe swing radius, and runs continuous drag detection as a background service — screen off is fine. A full-screen alarm fires the moment your boat strays outside the safe zone. Snooze or stop the watch instantly.
