On average, a person uses about 2.5 gallons of water per minute while showering. A 10-minute shower uses roughly 25 gallons. Cut that time in half and you can save around 12.5 gallons per shower.

Water heating also matters: according to the U.S. Department of Energy, it accounts for about 18% of home energy use. Shorter showers reduce hot water usage, saving energy and lowering utility costs.
