### 3/5 — Repetitive, Redundant Programming

*2026-09-01, version 5.5.2*

I subscribed to SHRED because I wanted structured, balanced programming without having to design and correct every workout myself. Unfortunately, the app regularly stacks minor variations of essentially the same exercise within one session.

My latest leg workout prescribed four rounds of barbell sumo squats, followed by three rounds of sumo deadlifts, and then three rounds of dumbbell sumo squats. The previous workout included dumbbell curls, rope cable curls, and combination curls—all in the same session.

I understand that the same muscle can benefit from complementary exercises, but these movements overlap so heavily that the programming feels padded rather than purposeful. The combination curl even repeats much of what the other two curl variations already accomplish.

The interface and demonstrations are polished, but I should not have to audit and replace multiple exercises when personalized programming is the feature I’m paying for. Until the workout construction becomes more thoughtful, balanced, and consistent, I cannot recommend the paid subscription.

### 3/5 — Rankings and Goals

*2026-08-24, version 5.5.1*

Solid app, would like to be able to see the top 3 rankings. It cuts off and it would be nice to have a person to chase

### 4/5 — Features suddenly removed

*2026-08-19, version 5.5.1*

I have had this app for years and have been using it diligently. All of a sudden today when I turned it on to do a workout suddenly many the features that used to be there or now behind a premium wall. That’s really irritating and annoying and I will not be renewing my subscription.

### 2/5 — Quality seems to have gone down

*2026-08-18, version 5.5.1*

I used to recommend this app wholeheartedly to friends, but now I’m on the verge of deleting it and canceling my subscription. The Ai “coach” is pretty useless and a lor of the time the video tutorials don’t match up with the selected workout (example: video shows a guys with dumbbells doing squats, typed instructions reference kettle bells.) I’m worried that all the maintenance of this app has been outsourced to Ai. Sad to see.

### 2/5 — 0 Innovation over two years.

*2026-07-28, version 5.5.0*

App is generally great, loved it for a while. But there are multiple glitches that have not been addressed over two years, and very little innovation or improvements over that time. Going to use a different workout app just to access upgraded interfaces, workouts, and variety. After two years, it’s the same old thing.

### 3/5 — Great Workouts Clunky App

*2026-07-18, version 5.4.9*

The workouts themselves are excellent. The videos of each exercise are really helpful. The app itself is pretty clunky and unintuitive.

For my two cents:

I want to be able to see my calendar of the next weeks workouts while I’m in the middle of one. But to do that you have to quit your current workout.

I want to be able to start one exercise in a circuit and be able to switch mid circuit, not have to skip a few.

I want to know what weights I’ll need for the current circuit at the beginning. Not have to find out at each exercise.

I want clearer indications of when a pyramid set or

I want clearer indications of when to go up weight/down weight in my circuit.

I want to be able to see the timer while looking at the next exercise.

In a circuit, I’m much more likely to do fewer reps or more reps than go up/down a weight, so I want it to default to changing reps, not weight. There should be + - buttons on the exercise itself, not another modal that opens. And I don’t want to always use the keypad.

If I hit exhaustion on a muscle group, I want to be able to record that more easily.

### 3/5 — Good App In Need of QA

*2026-07-01, version 5.4.9*

This is a good app, I like the workouts it generates, and the tracking in the watch / phone is good… When it works. Unfortunately every update is a dice roll, some things fixed, some new glitches introduced.

### 4/5 — Motivating but needs customization

*2026-06-25, version 5.4.8*

I feel Shred is one of the most motivating fitness apps I’ve used and I’ve used them all. It has just enough of the community element without being distracting or influencer driven. The workouts are challenging and you can customize based on frequency and equipment.

So why four stars? For anyone who’s mildly experience with training or weight lifting, you’ll find yourself wishing for more control over workouts. For example, I can’t create my own from-scratch workout. You have to rely on what Shred’s algorithm creates for you. Also, for workouts skew MUCH longer. A “30 minute” workout usually lasts me
45 mins to an 60 mins or more, and I follow the rests accurately.

Also, if you really like data about your progress, this app may not be for you. It’s impossible to find PRs for individual exercises unless you’re in the middle of a workout (there’s a button to see historical data for an exercise there).

Another quirk with Shred is editing. Sometimes i like to edit my days workout in advance. But, if you close the app, it loses your edits and you have to start all over.

Overall, Shred is outstanding and motivating despite some quirks.

### 3/5 — Too rigid

*2026-06-19, version 5.4.8*

Interface once your workout has started is awful. Doesn’t include all equipment or all options for muscle groups.

### 2/5 — Crash / Bugs

*2026-06-13, version 5.4.7*

This app has decent workouts, but I’m constantly emailing support to find out when a bug is going to get fixed. The most recent makes the app unusable. Do a trial before buying

### 3/5 — outstanding issues

*2026-05-27, version 5.4.6*

"The overall exercise routines are very good. However, the app doesn’t allow you to edit data. If you accidentally input the wrong weight or reps, you have to delete everything you've already done and re type it all again. The spellcheck feature in the notes works, but the cursor jumps in the middle of words, causing frustration. As a result, users end up spending more time dealing with these issues. Both problems were raised months ago with no resolution."

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — I doesn’t show what muscle is working

*2026-08-27, version 5.5.2*

Something as simple as showing the targeting muscle is not shown on the app if you need to target different muscles you wont be able to see what you are working on

### 1/5 — Mediocre

*2026-08-18, version 5.5.1*

The exercises are extremely repetitive with single muscle groups being used for 2-4 exercises at a time. It’s a pain to fix every workout. Recently, the AI feature has been down.

### 1/5 — New update causes Apple watch to skip workout sets

*2026-08-11, version 5.5.1*

New update causing glitches

### 1/5 — Too Expensive

*2026-08-06, version 5.5.1*

It is not worth

### 1/5 — Not gonna resubscribe

*2026-07-11, version 5.4.9*

This app got me started and that’s awesome but I’ve discovered so many problems. Ask AI about this app before putting money down. This app will not push data for some workouts or it will do it hours later with wrong data like it never ended the workout. Maybe because I hit end workout then when I go back in later to download my pic the end button is there like I never it hit. What’s my PR for bench press? I don’t know and the app doesn’t keep track for PR for the user. It will tell you when you hit a PR but you can’t go back and look at your PR’s. Often I get instructions in English follows by instructions in random unrecognizable Slavic sounding languages. If I tap the video the text doesn’t go away anymore forcing me to go into full screen mode. Doesn’t always show enough angles. I’m often wondering where my hands are supposed to be. There is no settings or ability to enlarge text even though theres plenty of blank space. Whatever next year I’m trying Fitbod

### 1/5 — Membership Cancelled - glitchy and useless ai

*2026-06-22, version 5.4.8*

I’ve been using the app for almost a year now and over the past few months it has become extremely glitchy

The ai does not make adjustments to workouts despite that being advertised, i think I’ve told it over 5 times over the past few months to give me more machine oriented workouts (yes the relevant equipment is selected in settings) and it just doesn’t listen despite giving a confirmation “the next workout will include more machine oriented workouts”

The phone app and apple watch app lose sync causing incorrect data being written to apple health

The apps buttons just stop working during workouts, clicking next before a rest doesn’t go to rest but the next workout begins. Force quitting restores functionality but I’ve had a workout completely reset as a result OR the app recovers but the apple watch app thinks you have the workout paused

Not sure if the devs have embraced vibe coding recently, but recent app performance tells me “probably”

Canceling membership and going back to traditional workout tracking, really wanted this app to work out!

### 1/5 — Equipment order

*2026-05-30, version 5.4.6*

App has you using 2 different types of equipment in one round not gonna work in a public gym with equipment on different areas of the gym and packed with people

### 1/5 — Full of bugs

*2026-05-26, version 5.4.6*

Each update seems to make things worse. Now you can’t even substitute a workout, because the filters are broken.

Add this to the fact your weight entries don’t work - it’s not usable.

### 1/5 — Please bring back kilogram!!!

*2026-05-22*

Please bring back kilogram!!!

### 1/5 — Why so complicated

*2026-04-18, version 5.4.3*

I just want to workout and be healthy. The gym isn’t a “lifestyle”. I have a life. I just want to go to the gym to stay healthy and have an app help me. This thing requires all your info, exactly what weights and machines are at your gym. Min 3 days per week. What if I start with 1? Does that make me a bad person and shouldn’t use the app?!? Why can’t I just say. I’m looking for a general all around workout schedule. When I come back next is my next workout regardless of the days in between. I don’t want daily notifications and a constant email. I’m not looking to join a community. I just want to be a little healthier than I am now. Why is that so hard for you fanatics to understand!!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Better than anything else

*2026-08-11, version 5.5.1*

It's astonishing what this app can do. After feeling disappointed with my personal trainer, SHRED rebooted my motivation for workouts. It's an excellent tool for tracking progress and discovering incredible, intense workouts. If I could give it endless stars, I'd rate it from here to heaven.

### 5/5 — Best workout app

*2026-08-11, version 5.5.1*

Having tried many different apps SHRED is by far the best, when it comes to ease of use and planning. For beginners especially this app is great in identifying the right workouts for your goals and a step by step guide to follow them.

### 5/5 — Great customer service!

*2026-07-24, version 5.5.0*

I stopped using SHRED when I started marathon training and I forgot to cancel my subscription. I emailed their support and they promptly responded and granted me a refund. Great company - thanks for caring about your customers!

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2026-07-15, version 5.4.9*

Has helped me so much in the gym

### 5/5 — This app is awesome!

*2026-06-21, version 5.4.8*

Love this app The only thing wish you could communicate with other people that would be good. But other than that Worth the money I spend every month. Complete workout app so far the best app I’ve had.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2026-06-11, version 5.4.7*

I’ve tried a number of apps, spreadsheets, and online workout programs over the years and this is by far my favorite. No more wasted set trying to remember what weight to start at and I like the rotation of workouts. I’ve been using consistently it for over a year and will continue!

### 5/5 — Game changer

*2026-06-09, version 5.4.7*

Better than any fitness coach or individual workout plan

### 5/5 — Phenomenal App

*2026-06-08, version 5.4.7*

Whether I’m working out on the go or at my home gym, this app can do it all. Though the company has true fitness gurus, it also has a strong continuous improvement mindset which has shown app improvements on a regular basis. Any company can scam you one time, but a great company makes you want to do business with them year after year.
I appreciate the tailored workouts and interactions where you are cheered on by the global community! It has helped me to remain focused and committed in ways other apps (and in person gyms) did not. Excited to see what’s next from this app!

### 5/5 — My Personal Trainer—No Matter Where I Am

*2026-06-01, version 5.4.6*

I’ve been using Shred since the beginning, and it continues to get better every year. As an athlete who travels frequently, consistency in training is critical, and Shred makes that easy.

The app provides structured, effective workouts wherever I am, eliminating the need to constantly create new programs or figure out what to do in the gym. Whether I’m training at home, traveling for competition, or working out in a hotel gym, I always have a plan that keeps me on track.

For me, Shred is like having a personal trainer in my pocket—an essential tool for maintaining fitness, performance, and accountability no matter where life takes me.

### 5/5 — Best app!

*2026-05-27, version 5.4.6*

Been using Shred and I really like how easy it is to find a workout that fits my day! There are many different programs and workouts and love that I can use it at home and at the gym. It is now easier for me to stay consistent even when schedule is busy. Also love the short form videos especially on days when I only have a little time but still want to move. As a nurse, I really appreciate the special discount too! Their customer service has been great and helpful whenever I needed support. Overall, I am really happy with Shred and would love definitely recommend it!!
