However, there has been a long standing problem with the way it calculates scores for puzzles. In particular, not all puzzles get included in the scoring. Sometimes you can play a few and the scores never get updated. Or sometimes you solve a few puzzles with the top score, but your average score actually goes down. I usually reset my score after every 100 puzzles, and so it’s not that hard to see whether it’s updating it and if it’s accurate. I’ll be happy to give it 5 stars if this gets fixed. ### 2/5 — Avoid this App *2023-09-07, version 1.11.0* This app is defective on many levels eg - declares draws when clearly not the case. There was only the black king on the board with 3 white queens, white rook and White Castle and it declared a stalemate draw - advised me to take back a checkmate move - frequently offers poor suggested moves - doesn’t clearly show when you have been put in check - no explanation on puzzles The list goes on. Don’t waste your money like I did. Get something else ### 5/5 — Simply the best. I've tried the rest *2023-06-04* This is hands down the absolute best chess app ever. I tried every one over the years and this is the best there is. It will give you chess problems to solve and let you stop in the middle and play that position from either side. I cannot say enough about the thought that went into this app. Very versatile and fast. Thanks for making it so intersectional. I love the problems and use them every day to stay sharp. However, during the middle game it often pumps up its rating significantly (validated with Crafty). A player at a moderate 1600 should continue to play at this level until the end and not suddenly play flawlessly. Winning a Chess computer is straight forward (right) all you have to do is achieve 1 of 3 things… Achieve Checkmate Get it to resign Cause it to run out of time Doing this is requires skill and Shredder can help you improve your skill with the built in coach feature. No subscription, no advertisements; just a functional Chess engine. Wünschenswerte Zusatzfunktionen: Nachträgliche automatisierte Partienanalyse aus menschlichen Turnierpartien (Mensch gegen Mensch) unter Vorgabe von im Programm verfügbaren Zeitvorgaben (sek./Zug). Die Eingabe sollte dabei von Hand (Zug für Zug) oder aus dem Import einer computerlesbaren Datei erfolgen. Wünschenswert wäre auch eine Bluetooth Interface Schnittstelle zum Anschluss an handelsübliche elektronische Schachbretter. Man kann dem Programmentwickler zu diesem gelungenen Produkt nur gratulieren. ### 3/5 — It works, but get the lite version *2021-07-24, version 1.11.0* The title says it all- this works well enough; but it’s slow and the puzzle solutions are full of problems. This app was highly recommended to me by two good players, so it’s disappointing to find several mistakes in their puzzle solutions within the first day using the app. I do like the customization of the board and pieces available and the fact that I can review and analyze other games, etc.; but the interface could be improved quite a bit. Been playing again and linking in to YouTube. Only limitation is unable to choose openings but can set up game positions and play on.
