### 5/5 — Unique Gamplay

I love the format of this game, and I love it. Very unique game in many different ways.

### 5/5 — Gr8 Game

*2018-11-02, version 1.0*

### 5/5 — Upwell

*2018-11-02, version 1.0*

The first thing I thought when I saw this game was that it looked like a reverse Downwell. Downwell is a great game, SHUMP is also of a similar quality but more difficult. That’s not a bad thing, some of the gaps in the platforms can do some damage early on, but the learning curve is very reasonable. I haven’t paid to remove ads yet, but this is the way to do an ad-supported game. You’re not beaten over the head with them, hell, you can skip them very quickly. I hope the ads I watch add up to a decent amount, you deserve it!

### 5/5 — Love it

*2018-11-02, version 1.0*

I love this game sooooookkk much. The ads are a little obtrusive but the game totally makes up for it! I also love the music. It really helps add to the atmosphere as you play!

### 5/5 — Lower ad time

*2018-11-01, version 1.0*

I have a few things to say one thing is the game is kind of challenging for me but the more I play the more I get better and also I hope there will be some update that’s going to have more bosses and new characters to play with and also at least sometimes when you die can tier be 30,20, and 15 second ads thank you

Sincerely Joe

### 5/5 — Love it

*2018-11-01, version 1.0*

It absolutely smacks and lifehack everybody, turn your phone on airplane mode and you wont have to deal w the ads🤯

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2018-10-31, version 1.0*

I have few quarrels with this game. Great graphics and ingenuity of gameplay. Bravo.

### 5/5 — This Game Stands Out!

*2018-10-30, version 1.0*

Only a minute or so in when I realized that this game is legit ( i hit the Remove Ad button instantly). Really solid arcade action with tight controls, and a nice ‘tough-but-fair’ difficulty level. The pixel art graphics are charming, and the music is bangin’.. What is not to love?

### 5/5 — Super Fun Arcade Game

*2018-10-29, version 1.0*

Loving every second of this game! Great job!!!

### 5/5 — This game is a MASTERPIECE

*2018-10-29, version 1.0*

I love this game so much. Though it is very hard, I can’t stop playing it. I think a good idea would be multiplayer. Other than that, I think this is perfect.

**Developer response:** Hey! Thanks for the kind words! I’m also considering multiplayer for SHUMP, although my software capabilities on mobile makes co-op pretty cramped for buttons! (I’ll most likely be exploring it for the desktop version). Glad you enjoyed the game.

### 5/5 — Really cool game wow

*2018-10-27, version 1.0*

I’ve played this game more than fortnite!

### 5/5 — It’s fun

*2018-10-26, version 1.0*

The rules are simple. Shoot+jump=SHUMP. The game is fun, and it is a challenge. I’ll have my hands on this game for a while.

### 5/5 — Turn of WiFi

*2018-10-25, version 1.0*

Turn of WiFi for no ads

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Restart

*2018-10-27, version 1.0*

Every time when i press the pause button, it doesn’t show where I could play!at some point it would pause and without noticing, I always restart at the start!stop doing this!

### 2/5 — Ads

*2018-10-24, version 1.0*

Ads pop up after every 3 or so deaths, annoying. Ruins the game, like every other fun arcade game I try to download. IAP says $2 to get rid of ads. Would be great if there were no ads.

### 3/5 — Plz fix it

*2023-01-10, version 1.0*

I have nothing but good things to say about this game as far as the game itself is concerned, I like it it’s simple. It’s old-school while being a little bit different than everything on the phone it’s you know easy to get into hard to really be great. In fact, I would love to pay and remove the ads so I can just play without interruption but there’s a problem with it that keeps me from doing that. It’s bizarre because I can’t lock it down. It needs to fix if you wouldn’t mind because you did make a great game. Problem is once I’ve downloaded it and I run it it’ll run and I can play pretty much as long as I want to enjoy it but once I have clothes that are it will not open again. I’ve tried everything I can think of that. I’ll clear the ram reset. The phone yada yada doesn’t work. In fact it doesn’t work when I deleted and reinstalled it right away but several months down the road I will download it again, hoping that you fixed it and it will run…once. But then it just crashes before it ever opens like that UFO dial upside down break which I would love pics as well so I could buy that one. I don’t know why it’s doing that but until it’s fixed I’m just gonna give it a three whereas I would’ve given it a five. Just for fun and simplicity.

### 3/5 — Amazing game

*2018-10-24, version 1.0*

This is game has great music and better challenging gameplay. With a ton of different power-ups this game is one of my favorite mobile apps.

### 4/5 — Annoying glitch

*2022-10-23, version 1.0*

Your game is tons of fun and a real challenge, but there is some sort of glitch that kicks me out when I try to join, so if you could try and fix that, it would be great!

### 4/5 — Great game, only one complaint

*2018-10-28, version 1.0*

This game is insanely fun- like you could play it for an hour and never realize it. My only complaint is that it’s way too easy to tap the home bar on iPhone XS Max, which pauses your screen, and potentially blows your game.

If you were to disable the bar during game play, and force users to have to swipe the bar twice from gameplay to close, the experience would be MUCH better.

I’d give a rating of 3.5 solely because of this annoying issue if I could, but It’s too good to only give it a 3.

**Developer response:** Hey Jacquie,

Thanks for your feedback, I currently have a new updated build coming out soon that should handle support for the various new devices (better aligned UI/buttons). I’d already shipped the game before Apple had released their latest models, so couldn’t make the changes for launch! Hope you understand and appreciate your patience whilst I get this modified!

### 4/5 — worries re: remove ads

*2018-10-28, version 1.0*

maybe i’m just bad, but after a few attempts i haven’t been able to get very far past the first boss. that’s cool tho, i’m fine with a challenge. it’s not really cool tho that i have to watch an (seemingly) unskippable 30 sec ad every two minutes of playing. i would totally remove ads if:
1) i knew how big the game really was, and whether or not it’s worth it for $5 (which btw strikes me as kind of a lot for 3 button controls, but w/e) or 2) if it was 1 or 2 dollars so i wouldn’t have to worry about the game not holding my attention for long enough to warrant the money. i may still end up buying the remove ads, but i lose motivation to play and find out how great your game really is when i’m not playin it for 20% of the time that i want to. [as a general ad sidenote, idk if the devs themselves can actually control the way ads appear in their games, but i really wish the ads were more communicative with how long they’re going to last and whether or not i can skip it. i’d like to know whether or not my phone is gonna basically be a capitalism brick for the next 30 seconds, and not have to find out by periodically tapping the top corners of the screen to try to find a literally invisible ‘close ad’ button]

**Developer response:** Hey there! Really appreciate you taking the time to explain your concerns, I’ll try and answer all your questions!

1. “Is the game worth $5 to remove ads?” All my previous games so far were $2, this one has been put up to $5 because of the amount of content in the game. There’s 13 bosses and 6 different zones to fight through, and I plan to release an update post-launch that doubles the gameplay content.
2. “Do the devs control when ads are shown and how long they last?” I’m just one dev and yep, I do. Most are 30 second ads that are skippable after 5 seconds, and they only show up once it’s game over. From the ones I’ve seen whilst testing, they display a number in the top left corner for how long they have left and beneath that you have an arrow you can skip with. I would personally like to put my games up for premium, but it’s much more risky and folks like yourself wouldn’t be able to try it before considering paying for the game.

I hope this answers your questions! 👍

### 4/5 — Needs checkpoint system

*2018-10-27, version 1.0*

This game is very fun, but it needs a system where once you have beat a boss without losing health you get a checkpoint from there

### 4/5 — I like it, but...

*2018-10-25, version 1.0*

It’s darn hard to stay ahead of the ever-approaching bottom of the screen. Don’t care for that feature. There’s enough going on without that extra obstacle thrown in. But it’s a good game, and maybe I just need more practice. Whether I succeed or not will determine if I keep it and buy the ad opt out.

### 4/5 — Great game

*2018-10-25, version 1.0*

When a game is ad-supported, I tend to assume the gameplay won't be well-balanced. Like Spelunky, it's nothing special for the first five minutes, so I almost didn't buy it. And there are no instructions, so I didn't know you could hold down the jump button. I would have eagerly paid for it based on the videos had it not been ad-supported, but the ads meant there was a chance that the art and music masked shallow gameplay. Nope, this game is exceptional. It could become one of my all-time iOS favorites. P.S. the Remove Ads option should be grayed out now. I end up tapping it every time I die.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — One of my favorite games on iOS

*2023-07-12*

It's extremely difficult, but it's a lot of fun. Great art and music and gameplay.

### 5/5 — Amazing game with one small issue

*2022-08-23, version 1.0*

It’s an amazing game except on the newer iPhones the selfie camera blocks the coins and score so you can’t see how much money you have and how high your score is

### 5/5 — Well-Balanced

*2020-09-19, version 1.0*

I really enjoyed beating this game, the difficulty was perfect.

### 5/5 — 🤷🏿‍♂️

*2020-06-28, version 1.0*

I love this game but in recently got the iPhone 11 and the trophies and coins are covered by the little notch on top of the screen

### 5/5 — SHUMP review

*2020-05-30, version 1.0*

This game is one of the best arcade games I’ve ever played! I love this so much! I liked it so much that I pre ordered it!

### 5/5 — Shump: Love It!

*2019-04-25, version 1.0*

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2018-11-22, version 1.0*

Really really fun, I recommend it to all people who love Crossy road, any of those games.

### 5/5 — Addicting roguelike!

*2018-11-12, version 1.0*

Fun game, hard but fair.

### 5/5 — Nice Progression of Difficulty

*2018-11-06, version 1.0*

This was a great little game, writing a review after (finally) grabbing a crown. I really liked the build up in difficulty, both from level to level (with logically spaced out shops), and boss to boss (and learning their patterns slowly over time with perma-death). Started figuring out power-up order strategies, and what to focus on when, and those strategies change from character to character so that’s /also/ exciting. There’s some kind of fast-progress trigger for the bigger bads too, and that was a good little responsive difficulty. Item costs are well balanced too (especially with the shield generally only available at the first shop with the discount character, otherwise gotta wait until shop no. 2). Only criticisms are: I didn’t really make active use of the shump itself, and took some careful observation to figure out how that counter worked. Might be because I’m on a tiny device, but never had enough of a look ahead to gamble on too continuous a jump. Also fat-fingered the items so often that I ended up never using them, or intentionally wasting them away as soon as I got them. Changing that button position/mechanic might be helpful. Lastly there’s a pausing glitch that happens every once in a while, which is usually fine unless it triggers as you’re going for the rightmost button, at which point you reset the level. Otherwise super nice, thanks for making it!

### 5/5 — This is sooo fun, just one thing

*2018-11-05, version 1.0*

Omg I could play this all day. I’m too lazy to write a long review so, you should add a level based challenge system to the game.

Also, it is really hard to use bert because it takes a lot of enemies to refill his life. I’m not saying to make it easy, but it would be more enjoyable if you only needed to kill 15 to 20 enemies To fill a life.

Thanks, Evan
