And the cherry on top? It’s run by an amazing solo woman developer who is super responsive and passionate about keeping the app useful and effective. Super helpful! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Why a subscription for this rudimentary app? *2026-03-19* I really get frustrated when an app that has no recurring cost for the developer and no regular updates needed put a subscription onto their app. It’s nothing but a money grab. The“lifetime” purchase is $100. That is insane for something this rudimentary. **Developer response:** Hi! I totally understand. I have a bit of subscription fatigue myself actually haha But I do wanna just let you know that a lot goes into these products and there are actually a lot of recurring costs! The subscription is for unlimited swipes and pro features but you can totally use it for free if you’d like. The app certainly requires regular updates and i’m always adding new features based on user feedback. I did a lot of research and tried to price it reasonably based on its quality and worth. It’s totally fine if you don’t agree, it’s not for everyone but I personally find immense use out of what i’ve built and a lot of others do too! ### 1/5 — Terrible *2026-03-05* It asked me to look at 7-8 photos that I just took today. $3 per month to look at my last few photos? Shutter Declutter is free forever with 25 swipes per day. The "On This Day" concept is the key: the app shows photos taken on today's date in past years. So if today is March 7th, you'd see photos from March 7th, 2024, 2023, 2022, and so on. If you just got a new phone or haven't had photos for very long, there may not be much to review yet, but that'll grow over time! The paid version unlocks pro features and unlimited swipes, but you'll never be charged just to use the core app. Hope that clears things up. The app is free forever, but there are pro features as well (the annual plan is priced at $2 USD). Here's what that $2 gets you: * Jump to specific dates in the calendar view to go beyond "On This Day" or Random: great for tackling a specific trip or a batch of photos * Unlimited Swipes so you can declutter endlessly if you'd like * Select The Best (Quick Compare): The app automatically finds similar photos taken close together on that day so you can easily find the best one * Pin Album Sheet: The fastest way to organize your photos into albums in a single tap * Duplicate finder: Let's you compare all the duplicates in a day and check off the version you'd like to keep * Auto-Play Videos Inline: View videos as you swipe; instead of tapping inline * Video Compression: Probably my favorite feature because it saves so much space! * Share photos without the watermark * Supports the dev! I work on this app full time and can only do so with your support So I really do believe the app is priced accordingly, but I'll take your feedback into consideration and look into other pricing options. Two requests: add a feature to open the original image in Photos and allow zooming in on an image within Shutter Declutter itself. Those would be gravy though, as this app is already terrific. **Developer response:** Hi! If you double tap on a photo you can zoom in on an image. As for the option to open an image in Photos, unfortunately Apple does not allow developers to do that ### 5/5 — Excellent and fun *2026-08-21* The thought of decluttering gobs of photos was daunting, so I had put it off for forever. But Shutter Declutter takes it in easy little chunks. The fun thing is that it groups each date’s photos by that day in every year—all through your photo library. So you get to walk down Memory Lane as you get rid of dead wood. I LOVE this app! ### 5/5 — Wow, I got so much space back! *2026-08-13* One of the best apps I’ve ever bought. At first I was skeptical. I mean, I had 43K pics and 2K videos! Well after a year I’m down to 33K & 1.5K and I’ve not really done the videos yet. That’ll be this year’s project. And next year I’m gonna start all over. Really, how many of those pay pics do I really need? Hell, they’re all grown now. I keep it on my Home Screen and every morning I do it along with my papers and coffee. I’ve now deleted gobs of photos and data towards my iCloud storage and I’ve only done one month of purging. I will be keeping (paying the reasonable price) this very useful application. It’s super easy to use. Clearing photos (they go into your recently deleted file so you can re-think your action if you decide) takes some of your time but it is well worth it in my opinion.
