iPhone 13 Pro

### 2/5 — Disappointed in 2.0 update

*2024-03-25, version 2.0*

I feel like the automatic signal analysis and peak detection makes this version less than reliable than the old version. It is always dicey using an LED light source since LED light output is not constant, but I did find one that I was able to use until this update. Also, the zooming of the waveform is extremely inconsistent and I find myself fighting the app to get it to zoom in and out. Overall the old version worked better for me.

### 3/5 — Still works on iPhone XS iOS 15.5

*2022-06-29, version 1.4*

Tried it out again June 2022 using a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter on the photo plug and it seems to work ok. Not quite so convenient as you need to support the sensor at the end of a floppy cable.

### 3/5 — Better with leaf shutters than focal plain shutters

*2021-09-01, version 1.4*

Quite useful, but all the extraneous noise from a focal plain shutter makes it difficult to identify the peaks for setting the measuring points [even using the light sensor which plugs into a jack—which does not exist on newer iPhones]. Also better at testing slower speeds. The absence of competing apps perhaps indicates the difficulties of creating a really simple and accurate shutter speed tester.

### 4/5 — tut was es soll

*2020-07-24*

### 5/5 — Definitely great app

*2019-12-03, version 1.4*

Works very well :)

### 2/5 — Great app, really simple and helpful

*2018-07-19, version 1.4*

Great app, really simple and helpful.

### 5/5 — Just wow

*2018-06-28, version 1.4*

This is a life saver... Proper audio capture and understanding. I olny wish I can select actual time duration instead of reverse fractions as I also use it to measure mechanical noise delays on other equipment.
I love the simplicity of the app.
Keep up the good work.
:)

### 3/5 — Good idea, but very inaccurate

*2018-02-14, version 1.4*

Definitely impossible to understand shutter speeds nowhere near exactly. But a very very good idea.

### 4/5 — bisher gut

*2017-11-05*

### 5/5 — Very usedful

*2017-10-12, version 1.4*

For old large format lenses to measure their accuracy to be able to compensate if necessary.

### 1/5 — Wrong

*2026-03-05, version 2.1*

Hopeless it’s so far wrong it’s a joke 7-18 stops out not wrong

### 1/5 — Ruined it

*2024-07-02, version 2.1*

It no longer records shutter speeds longer than 1/2 second correctly, and the interface is now far less intuitive. You’ve crippled a very capable app. Why? Update in response to developer: when I attempt to measure 1 second, it gives a nonsense value, usually in the range of 1/400th to 1/600th second. That’s what I mean when I say it no longer works for 1 second exposures.
Developer responds to say they don’t understand my problem, very dismissive.

### 1/5 — Version 2 noch sehr buggy

*2024-03-28*

### 1/5 — Ruined it

*2024-03-28*

Why did you change how this works??! It no longer records shutter speeds longer than 1/2 second, and the interface is now far less intuitive. You’ve crippled a very capable app. Why? Update in response to developer: when I attempt to measure 1 second, it gives a nonsense value, usually in the range of 1/400th to 1/600th second. That’s what I mean when I say it no longer works for 1 second exposures.

**Developer response:** You can still zoom the signal and adjust it manually, if you are not satisfied with the automatic detection. The automatic detection is optimized for use with the PhotoPlug. I just added a new feature, I did not remove any functionality of the old version.

### 1/5 — Ruined it

Why did you change how this works??! It no longer records shutter speeds longer than 1/2 second, and the interface is now far less intuitive. You’ve crippled a very capable app. Why?

**Developer response:** The App still records full 3 seconds, just like before - there is no limit to 1/2sec. You can still zoom the signal and adjust it manually, if you like. I don't know what your problem is.

### 1/5 — Doesnt work

*2022-07-01, version 1.4*

Got this to use with a 2018 ipad and got the photoplug as well. The audio only method works fine, but the software doesnt recognize the photoplug. Old software, i suspect the developer has lost interest.

### 1/5 — They Photoplug device does not work!

*2021-05-11, version 1.4*

Tried two of these and both don’t work. Tried different phones, ones with and without adapter. Tried everything. The first one never worked and I thought the signal was the photodetector but was actually from the mic. I tried using it again recently when I realised this but it was way out the return period so put it down to bad luck and ordered another. The second one is just the same. There’s no signal! Useless. Just don’t bother, I purchased two of these with shipping from Germany to UK and it’s a waste of money. Seller says I can return second unit but have to pay return postage from UK to Germany! Joke!

### 1/5 — Nothing works

*2020-03-14, version 1.4*

Nothing works in this app. I’m using it in iOS 13.

### 1/5 — Not good

*2017-10-22, version 1.4*

I bought the gadget to use this app. Its very difficult to use and very inaccurate. I paid almost 50 dollars including shipping for garbage.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2017-04-28, version 1.4*

The application without the plug is not usable. The waveform is so confused on most cameras that you cannot identify the two peaks and measure the time.
I bought the plug but it didn't work at all; I received a new one but it still doesn't work.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — A must for camera repair enthusiasts

*2025-02-07, version 2.1*

Kudos for updating this old apps after all these years. I was using it, back in the days, on my iphone 3GS and it was sub-optimal due in great part to the tiny screen. Now, with the peaks auto-detection, it is really good. It helped me a great deal in adjusting the shutter speeds of my Syncro-Conpur. If I may make a suggestion, it would be nice if we could see the milliseconds in the camera profile.

### 5/5 — Top Update 👍🏼

*2024-07-02*

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-05-14*

I really appreciate the update; used with the photoplug this is a really useful portable testing system.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback! Glad to hear you like the system.

### 5/5 — Viel besser mit neuem Update

*2024-03-28*

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2024-03-23*

New design is perfect and more accurate reading.

### 5/5 — It does work

*2024-02-29, version 1.4*

Bought a photo plug years back and I could never get the clean on and off signal as shown in their company video. The signal captured was full of noise. Until I realized that most of the iphone lighting adapters are for headphones . Until I got a "trrs (tip, ring, ring, sleeve) to lighting" adapter for microphone. Most are "trs" and will not work properly when connected to an iphone, Also ensure it's Apple MFI certified. Now it's working without issue.

### 5/5 — It stopped the guessing

*2023-01-31, version 1.4*

I refurbished a 1965 Nikon F recently and needed to test the shutter before wasting any film. With the photo plug and my iPhone X (yeah, it’s a couple upgrades shy of new) I have some very accurate numbers to work with. I can now make adjustments inside the camera, and re test it, or just use the compensation calculations. The Photo plug and app are a no brainer for any film enthusiast that is questioning their old cameras exposures.

### 5/5 — Works fine!!

*2021-07-26, version 1.4*

If you know anything about cameras this is simple and easy to use. A shame to trash a perfectly good piece of software because you’re clueless. The description makes it clear that it only works to 30th without sensor and instructions are built in.

### 5/5 — Practical and useful. Thank you!

*2020-10-18, version 1.4*

I measured my rollei 35’s shutter speeds with this. The interface is a little crude but the app makes up for it with it’s functionality. My only suggestion is to increase the graph’s resolution, because with the current one it starts getting hard to pinpoint the exact opening and closing times of the shutter at 1/250 shutter speed.

### 5/5 — It works

*2020-05-24, version 1.4*

Regardless of the older design, it works fine on iPhone Xs iOS 13.
