## What is Shuye?

Read the Chinese you actually want to read.

Shuye turns a photo of a page, or text you paste, into a lesson you can really read. Pinyin sits above the characters, a translation sits under each sentence, and every word is one tap away. It's made for learners who are past the basics and want real books, articles, menus and messages, not only textbook dialogues.

CAPTURE A PAGE
- Scan pages with the camera, choose up to 20 photos, pick pages from a PDF, or paste text.
- Send text, images or a PDF from another app with "Send to Shuye".
- No connection? Pages wait on your phone and go when you're back online.

READ WITH PINYIN WHERE YOU NEED IT
- Pinyin above the characters, set to All, Above my level or Off.
- "Above my level" uses the HSK level you choose, so words you know stand on their own.
- Optional tone colours, translations you can hide, and Simplified or Traditional characters.

TAP ANY WORD
- The meaning that fits this sentence, its reading and HSK level, docked under the text so the page stays in view.
- Look up is a full offline dictionary: search by characters, by pinyin with or without tones, or in English.

ASK WHY
- Explain any word, phrase or sentence: what it means here, why it's used, grammar notes, register and examples.
- Ask follow-up questions in plain English. Explanations are saved, so reopening one is free.
- Spot something wrong? Report it from the explanation in one tap.

LISTEN
- Hear the page read aloud by your iPhone's Mandarin voice, with each word underlined as it's spoken.
- Loop a sentence, change the speed, and start from any sentence.

KEEP WHAT YOU LEARN
- Save a word and it becomes flashcards tied to the sentence you found it in.
- Spaced repetition (FSRS) brings each word back just before you'd forget it.
- HSK 3.0 decks, stroke-order animations, and CSV or Anki (.apkg) import.

SEE YOUR PROGRESS
- A gentle streak that forgives a missed day each week, a study heatmap, reading time, retention and HSK coverage.
- A weekly report you can share.

YOUR ACCOUNT, OPTIONAL
- Start reading straight away, with no account needed.
- Sign in with Apple or Google to back up and sync your lessons and cards across your iPhone and iPad.
- Share a lesson or a deck with a link.
