I just wish they would update the range maps. Many are out of date and often the southern portion of the map is not visible, so you can’t see the winter range. If it was a free app I wouldn’t complain. ### 4/5 — Great app, but it needs more frequent taxonomic updates *2026-04-27* This is the best bird guide for North America out there, but it doesn't get updated frequently enough. It's been a year since the Warbling Vireo was split into two species and the app hasn't changed yet. There are also a few exotic species that have recently become established that the book does not include, most notably Burrowing Parakeet. A lot of the parrot information in general is outdated as well. And finally, Long-billed and Short-billed Dowitchers could use finer details and maybe some closeups of how the scapular feather patterns differ. ### 3/5 — Missing some identifier look ups *2025-09-03, version 1.5* I wish it included more location and behavioral data. Foraging for bugs in open field. Hanging upside down. Time of day bird is most likely active. All in all a good app. Love the taxonomic order. And bird descriptions ### 4/5 — Almost there *2025-06-08* Easy to search and identify birds. Extra detail to differentiate from other species is useful and sound recordings are handy. A little clunky while navigating within a selected bird as it tends to open panels within panels rather than use the screen real estate more efficiently. One major disappointment is when using the split screen function to view two apps t once, it’s not possible to search and view a species. Thanks Sibley. ### 4/5 — Mixed reviews *2023-03-10* This app is great for people who really know their birds but need to differentiate between similar species or keep track of what they’ve seen and where. I don’t know how beginner could use it, but that’s ok. The biggest issue is that the species aren’t cross referenced. A pintail doesn’t come up as a duck, nor does a teal. And a yellowthroat doesn’t come up as an option for warblers. Yellowlegs doesn’t come up as a shorebird or sandpiper. Kestrel and merlins are another example. They need broader categories. Again, great for good birders , but not if you’re struggling to figure out what you’re seeing for the first time in a new place. ### 3/5 — iPad problematic *2023-02-05* I love this app, and Sibley’s guides. I wish they would fix the iPad version to allow searching and browsing with the whole screen instead of just from the side bar. Super annoying. I’ve got this big old screen so I can see things bigger and I’m relegated to a tiny side-bar fraction of that to search and browse the guide. ### 5/5 — Best Bird ID app *2023-01-18* I’m biased as I’ve always favored Sibley’s bird ID books, but this app is easy to use and has so many little tips on how to distinguish similar birds. Would like to report directly as a bug report, but do not want to use email. Hopefully an update can be pushed out soon. Check out, for example, juvenile GoshHawk. Just too dark and intensive. Compare with the more accurate colour of the old app. So. Did anyone even check it? It takes one easy look to see how badly plates and maps are messed up. I can only hope an update comes out soon. Western and yellow footed gull range maps are the same. Key west quail dove shows they’re in California.
