### 3/5 — Was life altering

*2026-07-10, version 3.4.1*

Enjoyed it for a year, completely changed the way we did meals. But the use of AI is saddening, sometimes plain wrong or confusing…very disappointing. Also the UI change wasn’t for the best either - it’s made it more difficult.
A shame really, but if things don’t improve, we’ll look to alternatives.

### 2/5 — Decent, but needs an iPad version

*2026-07-01, version 3.4.0*

Using the bigger screen in the kitchen helps

### 2/5 — Update broke the search function

*2026-06-21, version 3.4.0*

It seems the update made my search stop working? As well, the ‘view all’ button shows nothing. Is it possible to revert to a previous version?

### 3/5 — Tell us your allergies we will ignore it

*2026-04-02, version 3.2.0*

The app asked for my allergies, I couldn’t put them all in but I could select fish, anchovies, Worcestershire sauce … but not prawns; the prawn dishes were coming up as recommendations, they look lovely but I can’t make/eat them. Overall the lack of ability to exclude things that could kill me made me get over the app very quickly. I did cook one chicken dish and the step by step voice instructions and timer function was a nice touch but I couldn’t be bothered to keep checking if the recipe would not be suitable for my allergies.

### 2/5 — Used be excellent…

*2026-03-18, version 3.1.0*

This app turned cooking from scary to a hobby. I used to adore and recommend it to everyone. Sadly the recent 2 UI changes have made the app less user friendly and more complicated to use as well as slower.

Worst of all, today it forgot my logon, which was through Apple ID. Suddenly it wants my email and password and a password reset doesn’t send an email for recovery. I guess thats a wasted subscription.

### 3/5 — Good content, bad new UI for me

*2026-01-26, version 3.0.0*

I still like all the content inside the app, the meals work great for me and it goes through them step by step.
I’m not a fan of the new interface. It makes it harder to do things as packs of 3, as originally intended, and pushes more individual meals.

### 4/5 — Great app, great food, one massive change

*2026-01-25, version 3.0.0*

Ultimately this is a great app that has not only helped myself and my partner make some delicious meals and plan our week accordingly, but it has saved us more money than I expected it to, one major change I would like to see though would be an iPad specific app, it’s great that I can use it on my phone and while I’m out, but it would be even better if I could have the app fullscreen on my iPad to plan and follow along with recipes

### 2/5 — New update (jan 2025) is bad

*2026-01-19, version 3.0.0*

The new update removes access to meals you added to a previous week (we often don’t cook everything exactly when planned) and now are unable to see any previous recipes and if we had don’t then at all. The new AI feature is also not needed and makes the app feel more inhuman and unhelpful

### 2/5 — A for effort

*2025-11-07, version 2.29.2*

Love the show but do not recommend this for anyone with an allergy. The allergy filter doesn’t work - every meal recommended to us had a food in that we had logged and saved as an allergen or intolerance or had an ingredient that itself contained that allergen. Theres a filter to turn it on or off, we checked it was on and I suppose it just doesn’t work. It was more effort than just googling recipes, because at least we can google recipes without the food we can’t eat. Additionally when looking for recipes we had seen on the show we couldn’t find a single one, which was a large reason why we wanted the app too. If you have no dietary needs or allergies it is probably great, but it was no good for us sadly.

### 3/5 — Celiac Friendly Options

*2025-08-02, version 2.29.0*

I may not be seeing functionality as I’ve not yet committed to subscribing as I try to go through the lay of the land.

When looking at gluten free options I’m seeing only a few recipes and the majority have something in common: no meat. I can’t eat gluten but I love my meat (tofu not so much).

It’d be nice to know how deep the recipe library goes and if there are tips on how to swap gluten items in a recipe out with something else.

### 2/5 — Meh

*2025-06-23, version 2.28.2*

Most recipes aren’t great and the timing is very inaccurate. Surprised they feel they can charge money for this.

### 2/5 — Should be able to pause

*2025-05-15, version 2.27.1*

I paid up for the year but my circumstances change and the app isn’t of use to me at the moment but I can’t pause my subscription so it’s just going to waste now. For that reason I will not renew.

### 4/5 — Great range of recipes

*2025-04-30, version 2.27.1*

A great range of recipes from all cuisines, the only thing I haven’t come across yet would be desserts. The shopping list makes everything very easy, the only downside is that I have it installed on my iPad for the convenience of a bigger screen but I can’t install it on my phone, which would be easier for shopping in-store.

### 4/5 — Full of Inspiration!

*2025-04-07, version 2.27.0*

This app is amazing, easy to navigate and has elevated the cooking skills in our home! Would like to see some more variety, there’s lots of orzo and pasta dishes, which are tasty! But I don’t want pasta all the time.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Was great but not anymore

*2026-01-27, version 3.0.0*

We have used the app for 3 years and absolutely loved it. The recent update made it just difficult to use. We scheduled our meals for the week and it was a pain. Now coming to cook and I realise three of the meals we had scheduled are just gone? Searching for meals has become a pain. All the “improvements” you have made are really disappointing and make the app difficult to use. We will be thinking about leaving.

### 1/5 — Terrible new app ui

*2026-01-25, version 3.0.0*

New app ui not tested enough and having lots of issues. Not as intuitive as before and takes forever for recipes to load. Also can’t remove recipes for plan as always has “failed to update” numerous times

### 1/5 — New update

*2026-01-24, version 3.0.0*

The new update is awful it’s slow and clunky and nothing seems to load when you want it too. I can’t find my meals I’ve planned or new packs anymore

### 1/5 — Major deviation

*2026-01-21, version 3.0.0*

The update has killed this for me. No more packs to have a cohesive plan or ingredients. I’m sad this just changed to such a basic “brick in the wall” app. Too bad I buy a yearly sub, won’t be renewing.

### 1/5 — „Vegetarisch“ nur Präferenz nicht Filter

*2025-09-12*

Ich habe angegeben, dass ich vegetarisch esse, trotzdem sind die wenigsten vorgeschlagenen Rezepte vegetarisch. Für Vegetarier ist die App damit ungeeignet

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback - that shouldn’t be happening. If you’ve set your preference to vegetarian, you should mainly be shown vegetarian recipes.

If that’s not the case for you, we’re happy to look into it and help. Please email help@sortedfood.com
so we can check this for you

Schreib uns bitte an help@sortedfood.com
, damit wir das für dich prüfen können.

### 1/5 — Completely ignores basics

*2025-05-20, version 2.27.1*

App asked me what my preferences were. I said pescatarian, and did not select any meat for ingredients I have on hand. App suggests a chicken pasta bake. I could have sworn chickens are not fish.

### 1/5 — Absolutely useless for allergies

*2025-03-30, version 2.26.5*

App asks if you have any allergies or intolerances and filling them in does literally nothing to change the recipes or suggestions. Useless yes, but most dangerous.

### 1/5 — Can’t Use This App

*2025-03-27, version 2.26.5*

I am so disappointed, I just discovered the sorted crew on YouTube and immediately wanted to download the app. After answering the initial first questions, the app freezes and doesn’t continue. I’ve tried deleting it and redownloading, but no luck. Maybe I’ll try again later.

### 1/5 — Beware

*2025-02-13, version 2.26.3*

They used to claim in their YouTube videos that you can still access previous recipes after you’ve cancelled subscription, this is not true.
Cancelled because I was a struggling to lose weight since they refuse to add nutritional info. Lost 15kg since stopping.
Was thinking I might try some of the dishes again not I don’t need to monitor food so much but your old recipes are locked behind a paywall when you try to “cook now”

### 1/5 — App is basically broken

*2025-01-24, version 2.26.2*

The calendar is all messed up. Recipes showing on the wrong week on my device (but fine on my partners). It makes running a shopping list or adding recipes impossible.

I can’t believe they charge for this buggy app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great recipes, love the cook mode

*2026-08-19, version 3.5.0*

I downloaded the app for inspiration but now my student son shares my account & is using it to learn to cook. The cook mode with audio instructions as well as timers is so helpful, and there are lots of filters so if you want veggie or budget recipes, or even 15 minute recipes, you can adjust the filters & lots of recipes come up. I try to cook the packs of recipes so I can save on fresh food waste, and my son will definitely do that at Uni. It would be great to have a web version so I can use it on the iPad. Definitely recommend this for more accomplished cooks looking for weekday inspo, and beginners.

### 5/5 — Take stress out of grocery store shopping

*2026-08-07, version 3.4.3*

I’ve been using this app for 4 years now. It is so great. My husband and I only have to decide which pack we are getting instead of stressing at the grocery store. We have learned new flavors, techniques, ingredients, and have fun cooking because of it. Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — 3 years in - it’s a win!

*2025-12-19*

My girlfriend and I have been using Sidekick for about three years now, and at this point it’s just part of how we meal plan and cook. We’re vegetarian, and there are always plenty of veggie options. Around 90% of the recipes we’ve tried have turned out really good (there’ve been a couple of misses, but honestly far fewer than any cookbook I’ve got ).

What I like is that I’ve actually learned things from it without really trying. I use lemon way more than I ever did, and miso paste… I never really knew how to use it before, and now it’s become one of those things I always have in the fridge.

Price-wise, it feels super fair for how much we use it, it pays for itself. And the app is straightforward, which I appreciate.

Every Saturday we pick six meals for the week, do the food shop, and that’s dinner for the week taken care of. It takes the stress out of constantly deciding what to cook after work… and less evenings when I’m left throwing a meal together with random leftovers.

I should say that I love cooking anyway, it’s definitely a hobby of mine. And it’s nice knowing I can walk into the kitchen and just follow something I trust, and it will usually turn out really tasty, without the faff of having to think too hard about it.

If I had to find a downside I would be cooking times. I get that ovens vary, but there have been a few times when meals have needed 50% longer than the recommended time.

Overall it’s a win for us!

**Developer response:** This is lovely to read! Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback. We’re really glad Sidekick’s become part of your weekly rhythm and that it’s helped take the stress out of midweek cooking (Saturday planning is exactly how we hoped people would use it).

Great to hear it’s helped you quietly level up too - lemon and miso are strong fridge staples 😉 And you’re absolutely right on timings: ovens vary wildly, and we know some recipes can run longer than expected. That’s something we’re actively tightening up.

Thanks again for cooking with us! Sounds like you’re using Sidekick exactly as intended, and we’re really glad it’s working for you.

Thanks
Team Sidekick

### 5/5 — The Cookbook of the Future

*2025-08-17, version 2.29.0*

Most important thing first, the recipes are beautiful and walk that fine line between being both flavourful while also healthy and balanced.
The app is very well laid out, where just browsing for next weeks meals is a treat, not a chore. The ingredients list is clean and organised so it makes racing round the supermarket an absolute doddle. For what is 5 pounds a month, I’m probably saving 10x that minimum in reduced food waste and eating far less takeaway. Never mind the time saving of not spending 1/2 hours in meal planning each weekend.
I’ve ended up sharing the app with family and friends, and being able to share the fav recipes with each other adds another dimension to it as well.
I’ve always been a foodie, and tend to skip the full detailed recipe breakdowns as I don’t need to worry. But being able to put a recipe in front of someone who doesn’t like/know how to cook, and see them go through the step by step guides with the pictures, and then come out with a plate of food to a standard they have never cooked before is quite something. And I’m still learning new techniques and styles I would never have tried before!
The app has so much scope in the future for people to start uploading and sharing their own recipes, and I really hope they develop out the social media aspect of the app so people can build their own cookbooks in the app and share them. But this app is already worth it 10 times over.

Ps, Jamie Currie’s salads are an absolute joy.

### 5/5 — Helpful

*2025-06-25, version 2.28.2*

Takes some of the thinking out of meal planning, gets me to try ingredients I had never bought before, and honestly usually save me money on groceries because I’m more focused in the store

### 5/5 — Makes live so much easier

*2025-04-21, version 2.27.0*

My partner is a chef, I have been in love with cooking for years now. But we live busy and hectic life of hospitality. I CAN do all the things the app is doing for me, but it takes time to plan ahead every meal to have no wastage. I used to meal plan with pen and paper and it would take me few hours each week. Now I get it done on tube to work - straight from the sidekick app to my supermarket delivery app. The subscription is less than a £1 a week with yearly plan and it saves me so much time, its so worth it.

The recipes are great, often updates with new packs, super easy to follow and community comments are often very helpful.

### 5/5 — I’m actually shocked by the impact this app has had

*2025-04-18, version 2.27.0*

I’m a moderately proficient home cook. I found a few months ago that I’d got into a bit of a rut and pretty much cycled through the same 5-6 recipes when I was cooking. I’ve branched out and tried things like hello fresh and gusto, but was underwhelmed. I downloaded Sorted just after the new year to see if it was worth it - I love their YouTube channel.

I love it. There has never been a time before when we’ve gone 4 months always cooking everything in our fridge - I’d always go to the shop aspiring, but got lazy one night or went out one night. Not any more. Massively reduced food waste.

I’ve cooked so many different things that I never would have attempted. The variety of the packs are great.

It’s even got my wife more confident - she’d always told herself that she couldn’t cook, and she made one of our meals last week when I was late working.

If I could give this more than 5 stars I would.

Good job guys.

### 5/5 — Perfect for my ADHD brain!

*2025-04-18, version 2.27.0*

Honestly this app has changed the way me and my partner approach dinner time. We would usually have to scrounge a meal together with the few ingredients we would remember to buy. This app has made it so each meal is planned so we don’t have to wonder what we’ll have for dinner and not one recipe has been disappointing! Would recommend!

### 5/5 — Worth every penny

*2025-03-31, version 2.26.5*

Helps you save time and money. Pick rates? Choose meals based on your favourites. Want to try something new? Explore new cuisines. Don’t have time? Choose a quick meal. Have extra chicken? Search the recipes for something to make. Truely keeps my decision fatigue way down!

### 5/5 — Great

*2025-03-27, version 2.26.5*

Great app to manage week to week cooking and in our case helped to reduce food waste as well.
