### 5/5 — Easy and Fun

*2026-07-09, version v8.3.0*

Easy to use and very fun app! Keeps me motivated to get my steps in :)

### 5/5 — Huzzah!

*2026-06-21*

I was browsing through the App Store looking for other pedometer based apps to gamify my active step counts. So many of these kind of apps just feel bloated, full of annoying ads or just unnecessarily complex. So I was pleasantly surprised when I happened to stumble upon this app. Seeing that it was 3 months old, I was excited to try out something new. As a new player, it was very inviting from the get-go and the objectives and UI design are really well laid out. As an enjoyer of RPGs, the sprite designs and gameplay really entice me personally but I don’t think it’s overly complicated even for players with little to no RPG experience. I see that the developer has been very active in patching and content updates since launch, and can’t wait to experience the current version of the app and see how it evolves in the future. Nice work! Highly recommend.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2026-06-20, version v8.1.2*

This is a really great game that inspires me to walk more every day. Having instant gratification in the form of XP makes walking way more fun!

### 5/5 — Fun Way to Walk!

*2026-06-13*

I was looking for a way to motivate myself to walk/run and this has been helping a lot! You can focus on your own goals, collab your walks with friends, and even others through a guild. You level up the more you walk, specializing in classes. Feels like a real life rpg!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review!

### 5/5 — Great little game.

*2026-06-04, version v8.0.1*

I love walking and this has made walking around so much more fun. I am so happy to of found this great game.

### 5/5 — Simply fun

*2026-06-03*

I’ve tried out a few walking or step apps, but this one is easily my favorite. The graphics are basic 8-bit style, and the object of the app is to take each step and turn it into experience points for your character. It feels great to just check in and let the app do the counting passively in the background. No long loading screens, no glitches from high graphics, and no need to constantly tell the app you are going to walk, it just knows you walk whenever you walk with the phone in a pocket. Simple and perfect.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review!

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2026-06-01*

I love quest type games and I wanted something to motivate me to walk more. This is exactly up my alley. I hope they add more add ons. I’ve gotten several of my friends to download it and we’re competing on how fast we level up

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review!

### 5/5 — Love checking this app!

*2026-06-01*

I constantly try different walking apps. I usually delete them within an hour. This game has a heart to it. I love just checking it and seeing the XP pop up. The design is great and I really enjoy upgrading my character. I’m so excited to see where it keeps going!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review!

### 5/5 — Minimalistic but fun!

*2026-05-21*

This is a neat minimalistic app and I say that as a good thing. So many apps today have 15 places you have to check on to get these coins or those power items. It can get a bit tedious. Not this game. I open it, check on 3 maybe 4 things if I’m fighting a monster. It keeps me coming back to check in really quick a few times a day. Thank you for making a game that doesn’t require me to be a full time admin just to get to the game itself.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review!

### 5/5 — It’s amazing

*2026-05-20, version v7.5.7*

This is one of the best games/fitness out there it has made me get out more and find so many cool areas and I compete with my friends to get to the higher level! 5/5 would recommend

### 5/5 — Fun and engaging

*2026-05-15, version v7.5.7*

No gimmicks. Makes it fun to walk and you can acquire items and pick expeditions with different step counts

### 5/5 — Fun

*2026-05-12, version v7.5.5*

It’s a fun little game that helps motivate you to move.

### 5/5 — Fun

*2026-05-11*

I been using it for a while and I’m pretty invested on leveling up and getting better stuff good app to encourage walking or running etc with a playful twist

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review!

### 5/5 — Cheating

*2026-05-02*

I misunderstood the wording in the warning the app gives for manually inputting steps. I understand the need for not counting them because people would cheat. I was only worried about being banned. So thanks to the dev for replying for that misunderstanding on my part because I really did like the app.

(Previous review I just mentioned how I thought the app would ban me for manually inputting steps)

**Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback. SideQuest does not automatically ban users when manual steps are detected. All cases are reviewed carefully to maintain fairness and integrity across leaderboards and guilds.

Edit: thank you so much!!

### 5/5 — Love this game!

*2026-04-26*

Fun way to motivate yourself to get moving! Co-op activities to walk with friends and family. I love that I can just put my phone in my pocket, go for a walk, and come home to find a new cute pet, a monster encounter, or a super sweet reward. No need to play while I’m walking!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review!

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-04-15, version v7.1.1*

I love this app so much please don’t make anything paid it’s so perfect

### 5/5 — OBSESSED

*2026-04-12*

20 ratings??? This app is the only thing that gets me excited about walking. FANTASTIC step counter if you have ADHD and crave that extra dopamine hit that walking alone can’t give you

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review! ❤️

### 5/5 — Things to know

*2026-04-05*

It was pretty accurate when counting the steps on my Fitness app, but it did not work for the Health app

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! The updates and syncs are continuously being improved!

### 5/5 — I like it!

*2026-03-22*

SideQuest has a lot of potential, but even currently it’s a really neat app. It’s a cute, adventure-styled game with RPG elements (character classes, gear, monsters), and I think the pacing of the game is perfect. You progress fast enough to still want to check in on the game frequently, but slow enough to where it keeps you hooked. I don’t know if the developers plan on going in this direction, but I would love to see an avatar customization option in the future.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review! Yes, there will be character customization in the future :)

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 4/5 — Not bad.

*2026-07-01*

Cool so far looking forward for more updates. I would recommend a pvp type thing. Would really like to see that.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. More updates are definitely coming! PvP is a really good suggestion.

### 4/5 — Room to improve, but still a solid foundation

*2026-02-27*

The game has a solid foundation to be incredibly fun and addicting in the future. It’s one of those games that you can have idle in the background (in this case, you do everything by walking).

There’s not really anything to punishing and the gameplay loop is fine, working on a job and going to campus I’ve been able to level up at a pretty good pace.

The gameplay doesn’t really have any variety yet, I want to see if you update the combat system at all.

I think a more in-depth friend system and party mechanics would be really fun too.

### 5/5 — Changed my life

*2026-07-31*

It’s usually a drag for me to do my cardio. Ever since I downloaded this game, I’ve been motivated to walk. I now average 15-20k steps per day to try and stay on the leaderboard.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your awesome review! :)

### 5/5 — Well. That escalated quickly.

*2026-07-29, version v8.4.4*

I don’t even know what to say, but I’ll start by saying thank you to the devs of this app.

My husband and I both downloaded this app. We are generally sedentary people who tend to talk about fitness and exercise in a very abstract way but never actually do anything about it. We are, unsurprisingly, hugely into video games.

Since downloading the app, our conversations frequently are about when we can get out and walk, both together and separate, what we will do in the colder months when it becomes more difficult to walk outside. The co-op quests obligate us—and connect us—to each other in the best way.

Today my husband got a pet egg from a quest. I want one too (SO BAD) so I logged 17,000 steps today, which is not something I would have even thought I would ever do unless I somehow got lost in a desert I would certainly never go to.

Crossing a fitness app with a type of game that pushes the buttons of people like us who are on average more likely to be sedentary than non-gamers is brilliant, and that the packaging for this particular game is so adorable and enticing only adds to my motivation to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Thank you again, devs!

UPDATE (7/29/26): It’s been 3 weeks. I am now averaging 25K steps a day and have been for the past 2 weeks. This may not seem like a big deal to some, but I’ve never stuck with any physical or fitness activity for even a week up until now. I was that kid in school who always seemed to have an excuse note to get out of PE, if you know what I mean.

Devs are HIGHLY responsive on Discord. Bugs are fixed extremely quickly.

There is no P2W aspect and therefore no reason you would absolutely need to pay money to make full use of this app, but I bought the pioneer pack anyway—not for the rewards but because if I had known the difference the app would make in my daily life, I easily would have considered paying $5 for it upfront to be an amazing bargain.

It’s usually hyperbolic when people say “changed my life” but in this case, it’s 1000% true. ❤️

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2026-07-25*

This is a really great game that inspires me to walk more every day. Having instant gratification in the form of XP makes walking way more fun!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review!

### 5/5 — Best App Ever

*2026-07-21*

I love this app, literally obsessed! Makes me walk to go for a walk everyday.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your kind words!

### 5/5 — Simple to play but still good

*2026-07-19*

As the previous reviewer wrote, the game is fairly simple. Not 100 different arbitrary things you need to check. Just set your mission and go.

Hope they find a good balance of simplicity and fulfillment (as it relates to making steps feel meaningful) as the game continues to develop.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review! Balance is definitely key :D

### 5/5 — Steps Tracker meets Gamer

*2026-07-19*

This is by far the most entertaining and simple app I’ve tried to track my steps. I got my boyfriend and I to download it together and now we “adventure together”. As a gamer the aesthetic is perfect and I love the pixel art.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your amazing review :D I’m glad!

### 5/5 — Pretty Good

*2026-07-18, version v8.3.3*

I like it, it’s nice and simple, just wish there were some more features to it.
Maybe dungeons with floors per steps and a boss per level?
Also an ability to fight others would be cool.
This is still being updated however so I’m looking forward to seeing what gets added.

### 5/5 — Well. That escalated quickly.
