## Newest reviews (10 of 33)

### 3/5 — Interesting x2

*2019-11-20, version 1.1.7*

I like the concept but hiding content/information behind a paywall can be problematic when the idea behind this is to curb emotional distress in today’s news climate. The design is also not very friendly in that it seems less like a news app and more like a luminosity type app. Solid idea.

### 4/5 — Don’t believe the hate

*2019-01-14, version 1.0.3*

I don’t get it. Sift provides actual, legitimate, non-biased sources and yet people say it’s biased? What, because it doesn’t fit your narrative? That’s not how this works.
The interface and presentation is pretty dang awesome, which is why I’ve been waiting and WAITING for more topics. I’ve been stuck on immigrations for many months now. I want more topics! :)

### 2/5 — Biased

*2018-11-08, version 1.0.2*

I was excited about the concept. After downloading the app and engaging on the content, I was disappointed to discover that the “research” lacks context, meaning of subjects, and is severely biased. I’ll check. Back later to see if content is improved.

### 4/5 — Interesting

*2018-10-31, version 1.0.2*

This is not a substitute for the hyper polarized news as I was hoping, but it is an interesting and informative deeper look at immigration. I would say it skews slightly left, but is far from propaganda as some reviews claim. They give lots of reputable sources to back up the data and seem solidly fact based but leave out some major points in my opinion, particularly those that don’t play in favor of immigration. Really nice interface. I would give it a second chance with another topic if they come out with more.

### 3/5 — Somewhat biased

*2018-10-25, version 1.0.2*

I always represent myself as an independent and throughly research both sides of a topic when I look up politics. I did find this to be bias in the liberal sense with little opposing views. The app itself is very good and I love the layout. The mini quizzes are great and refreshing way of learning about the current news. I also would like to see more topics besides just immigration. I don’t know if I just haven’t gone through it all or that’s all it currently offers. This has great potential and it might be something I will redownload if both sides are better represented.

### 4/5 — 5 stars

*2018-10-25, version 1.0.2*

Awesome app!

### 2/5 — Biased

*2018-10-24, version 1.0.2*

It's got great layout. Information is generally relevant and accurate. It's clearly weighted on the liberal side of the fence though. Mild acknowledgement of the fact that "white" is a reduction of numerous societies and cultures. No attempt to represent the realistic facts of the opposition.

### 2/5 — Seems Biased

*2018-10-24, version 1.0.2*

I was willing to give this app a try, but the “educational” features seem biased towards progressive political views. It’s one thing if the app is clear about its intentions, but the marketing for this app leads one to believe it is politically agnostic, but that was not my experience. Two stars for a well designed, but misleading app.

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2018-10-23, version 1.0.2*

Very rarely do I review an app, but Sift deserves it.

I really enjoyed the experience of the app. The design it beautiful, easy on the eyes and simple to figure out, unlike other news apps. No blaring headlines or massive images and ads, a pleasing experience. Short mini quizzes that you can skip past or take the time to complete really help you understand the content and digest it all.

All in all it's a very nice app and I can't wait to see what comes next!

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2018-10-23, version 1.0.2*

Really learning about current news events and the sources to back up what they are posting. So much misinformation in the news these days, it’s hard to know what is real unless take the time to fact check and stay current on sources.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Whitewashed

*2020-08-20, version 1.1.7*

In their fake news section they focused on Russian news and nothing else.

The problem is homegrown and avoiding the real culprits make it obvious that you’re not going to get the truth here, just the safest middle ground.

### 1/5 — Sift for a news outlet? I want the whole story

*2019-05-04, version 1.1.1*

This sifts out the facts that support their argument and removes the counters leaving a very biased story. Sad. The layout is nice it’s just sad they aren’t looking for the truth.

### 1/5 — who in god’s name would pay for this trash?

*2019-04-27, version 1.1.1*

another group of biased, radical left wannabe reporters trying to capture your attention by sprinkling sugar on political hot topics, except this sugar is in the form of buzzwords coupled with a writing style that is downright condescending.

id summarize this ‘app’ as a regurgitation of the same rhetoric that the left spews 24/7.

if these people had any real value to offer, it would be published for free in an environment that shows WHO wrote the content. this is just an attempt by a few rejects who think they are smarter than the rest of us.

### 1/5 — Annoying

*2018-11-04, version 1.0.2*

This app is so totally, obviously, biased. I love the interactive learning, but I really wish I could learn without feeling like I should agree with everything that I’m reading.

### 1/5 — So much potential

*2018-10-31, version 1.0.2*

I see so much potential in this app. It could be used to show more FACTS for BOTH sides of the story. (Instead of facts for one side.) It could be used so people can make their own opinions. It leans too much in one direction. It basically says “here’s why we should believe this is a good thing/not a good thing” instead of laying out the facts why two different people may believe two different things. All in all it was not what I expected. It’s definitely a good start, but it’s lacking at least 50% of the story.

### 1/5 — An odd liberal echo chamber slideshow

*2018-10-24, version 1.0.2*

Calling this a type of “news app” is definitely false marketing. It’s more of an interactive slide show with the goal of convincing someone with a independent or conservative viewpoint to switch to a much more liberal one. It first asks what your viewpoint is on a topic, and if you choose something more than an extremely liberal view it “corrects” you using a mixed mash of true, partially true, shockingly false, and purely subjective “facts”.

If you are already extremely liberal, this will do nothing but serve as an echo chamber for your own views. If you happen to be more independent or conservative, it presents no actual “news”, just a lengthy and rather boring attempt to change your mind on a variety of social issues. So it’s essentially useless for everyone. Better to download a few different free news apps with differing views (like CNN, Fox, and BBC) and try to sift through for a more balanced view.

### 1/5 — Another biased news source

*2018-10-24, version 1.0.2*

The wording indoctrinates ands doesn't allow for multiple opinions. It presents propaganda cleverly disguised as information. For example : it talks about immigration, giving stats, charts, history etc. And then tries to paint illegal immigration with the same brush. Nobody is worried about legal immigration. Sift should be ashamed. How manipulative to prey on those looking for real, unbiased educational news.

### 1/5 — Left wing propaganda

*2018-10-24, version 1.0.2*

Liberal biased ‘news views’ disguised as an impartial perspective...it’s so obvious that it’s comical. I love how all of these ‘informational apps’ are bombarding the App Store right before midterms.

### 1/5 — Confusing

*2018-10-24, version 1.0.2*

I went through the immigration section and they kept switching to legal immigration statistics and mentioning illegals throughout the text. I felt very misguided because everyone knows immigrants aren't bad, but rather illegal immigration is. Let me clearly view those statistics only and stop trying to misguide me.

### 2/5 — Interesting content, but still biased

*2019-01-19, version 1.0.3*

I appreciate this app as it has interesting historical info, stats, and a lot of good content. However, my low rating is due to the obvious bias (though I agree with much of it) throughout the content. I downloaded this to get information as close to objective as possible, but the creators’ ideological perspectives show in the way content is worded and presented. Great concept, but difficult to deliver a product marketed as apolitical.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Healthcare internationally

*2020-01-09, version 1.1.7*

My first SIFT article!
This style really appeals to me! No BS or ads flooding in between every sentence or paragraph.
Give it a try, not for everyone, but I really like it! Reminds me of early NPR in the 70’s.
Thank you SIFT!!

### 5/5 — I love this app

*2019-06-04, version 1.1.4*

Sift is a great way to learn about the central social and political issues of our time. It’s extremely accessible to read, and we get the whole picture: history, sources (proof), fun ways to interact and learn. Also, these issues are always evolving and growing as we grow as a culture, so I really appreciate when they let us know what parts of the issue don’t have a clear answer yet. Thank you, I’m a proud subscriber now, and look forward to reading new topics as they are released.

### 5/5 — Wow

*2019-04-20, version 1.1.0*

This app is fantastic. Approach it with an open mind and you will benefit from the topic you are reading. Some of these reviews obviously came from people who did not take the goal of the app seriously at all. That, or they just don’t want to believe in facts. Looking forward to more topics. Please add a tap to each side of the screen to go back or forwards instead of a swipe. Maybe an optional toggle.

### 5/5 — What an amazing app!

*2018-11-03, version 1.0.2*

This is such an amazing application. Not only does it present you with super informative and interacrive presentations about current events that many people may be confused about but they do it completely for free. I honestly believe that everyone should have this app because it will prevent a great amount of people from being ignorant when it comes to current events.

### 5/5 — A very good data presentation format.

*2018-10-31, version 1.0.2*

Sift presents information about popular news items sort of like a PowerPoint presentation. It dissects the information down into facts and numbers regarding the topic in chunks that are easy to understand.

Other reviewers for this app seem to think it has a “liberal” bias. This highlights how mindlessly our public has latched onto the propaganda teat. Sift doesn’t present information with an editorial viewpoint. The data that is presented is simply that - numbers and statistics around a current topic.

Data isn’t liberal or biased in any way. It’s simply data. And Sift does a very good job at presenting it.

### 5/5 — Curious?

*2018-10-26, version 1.0.2*

Try this.

Sift presents well documented details and figures of respected data presented in a straightforward manner.

The information is presented cleanly and is well scaffolded to build on understanding one part of a subject to the next. It is accompanied by easy to read, informative, visual data.

I get the sense that many of the negative reviewers were coming around to the actual data on immigration (legal and illegal) and the many complex nuances of the subject that usually get lost in the noise. But this unfamiliar information doesn't fit into the the same old dog and pony of their own said "echo chamber" — and so they feel betrayed.

Some of negative reviews posted here would have you believe that Sift is part of some liberal conspiracy propaganda indoctrination. As a conservative on many things, even I don't believe that. That's all kinds of crazy. Like this country right now.

Why don't you put on your actual critical thinking hat if you have one, conservative or liberal, and see for yourself?

### 5/5 — Amazing.

*2018-10-25, version 1.0.2*

This app is amazing. Informative, easy to digest, and extremely accessible.

### 5/5 — These people live in a different reality.

*2018-10-25, version 1.0.2*

Everyone rating this low and claiming it's a left leaning or progressive app and needs another side is delusional. If anyone has a nuanced view that supports Conservative view points then feel free to make their own app. Until then, enjoy your misguided views.

### 5/5 — Don’t see an issue.

*2018-10-25, version 1.0.2*

I don’t see why there’s hate. They back up everything with sources.

The problem is that when people are presented with facts that are contrary to their beliefs, they dismiss those facts as propaganda. This applies to both ends of the political spectrum. Because of this, I don’t think our country is going to heal. People are not going to change their minds on any matter and are going to simply let politicians tell them how to think. Truly sad.

### 5/5 — More, please.

*2018-10-24, version 1.0.2*

Started using the app a couple of days ago. Fantastic, intuitive interface devoted to crisp, clean understanding of complex news issues. A great breath of fresh air — highly recommended. Can’t wait to see this expand into other areas.
