## What is Sift?

Meet Ember, the part of Sift that thinks about dinner with you. It picks recipes each morning, answers a craving with real dishes, and reworks any recipe.

- EMBER PICKS, EVERY MORNING
A sealed envelope waits on Home. Tap the seal and six cards rise out, real recipes with real ratings, and every card says why it's there: "Because you cooked chicken five times." Swipe yes and it drops into your yes pile. Swipe no and Ember learns. It never deals the same dish twice.

- ASK EMBER WHAT TO COOK
Tell Ember a craving in your own words, or what's sitting in the fridge, and it comes back with dishes you can actually make. Talk it through and it narrows the list with you until one dinner is left. Your restrictions always apply. Pro.

- OPTIMIZE ANY RECIPE
Keto, low carb, paleo, or just lighter. Ember swaps only what the goal requires, tells you what each swap costs, and rewrites the steps to match. Pro.

- COMPARE TWO VERSIONS
Two recipes for the same dish, side by side, with rust marks wherever the amounts disagree. That's free. Ask what actually differs and Ember reads both and tells you which differences change the dish. The answer is Pro.

- MACROS ON EVERY RECIPE
When a page publishes nothing, Ember estimates calories, protein, carbs and fat per serving every time. Free.

- THE RECIPE COMES TO YOU
Turn on the Safari extension once. Whenever a page has a recipe on it, a small bar appears and steps are on a clean card, with a link back to whoever wrote it. No hunting past the life story.

- THE SCREEN STAYS ON
Cook Mode is big type you can read from across the counter. Tap a step to check it of until you leave.

- TIMERS THAT SET THEMSELVES UP
"Smoke for 10 hours" becomes a timer you start with one tap. It counts down on the Dynamic Island with the app closed.

- ALSO
Substitutes for what amount and what changes. Scale from half a batch to 100x. Saved recipes open with no signal. An evening reminder when today's picks are dealt, if you want it on.

- EMBER AND YOUR DATA
Ember runs on Sift's server and gets its answers from a language model at OpenAI. When a recipe text or the craving you typed leaves your phone, Sift asks once before the first request. Your daily picks are ranked on the phone and nothing is sent for them.

- SIFT PRO
Ask Ember, Optimize, Compare's written answer and unlimited web search are Sift Pro, or yearly, with three days free the first time you subscribe. Pro needs an account, because Ember runs against it. Sift is free and stays that way. The subscription renews automatically unless you turn it off at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage or cancel anytime in Settings.

### 5/5 — Love this app!!

Sift is awesome! Great app design and makes using and saving recipes super easy. The compare recipe function is such a cool idea!

### 5/5 — Recipes

*2026-09-06*

I found this app so helpful. I am not the greatest cook but I don’t mind trying to follow a recipe. With this app I found it so easy to use. It even substituted ingredients that I didn’t have. This will be my go to when cooking.

### 5/5 — Amazing app! User Friendly

*2026-09-02*

Wow!! I cook pretty often & I normally google recipes (which takes a ton of extra time) but this app makes the process so seamless. Very user friendly, I highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Great App, such a time saver

*2026-09-02*

Can't tell you how many times I've found a recipe I've wanted to cook only to get bogged down with ads or having to read some tangential aside about someone's grandmother. Now I can just get to the recipe. Super easy to use and really a must have for anyone who likes to find new recipes online.

### 5/5 — Great place to save all your recipes!

*2026-08-30*

Great app to save all my favorite recipes! I especially enjoyed the feature that goes step by step during the cooking process to ensure I don’t miss anything. Will definitely continue growing my personal recipe catalog!

### 5/5 — Wow! Major frustration saver

*2026-08-24*

I cook on a daily basis and am constantly navigating various recipe websites. This app has transformed that entire process for me. I’m able to quickly view recipes in a clean format, search for recipes online AND have Safari auto-detect content to automatically open the recipe in Sift. The compare functionality is great, especially when I don’t want to follow a recipe verbatim. I can honestly say, this app shines over other apps that do similar things. I’ve never seen auto-detect in another app, and that really sets this app apart!

### 5/5 — Cooking is hard enough already! Sift makes it easier!

*2026-08-24*

Super helpful! Just wish the app could actually cook the recipe too 😅

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.0 — 2026-09-19

- Sift has Ember now!

- Every morning a sealed envelope waits on your Home tab. Tap the seal and six cards rise out, and every one says why Ember picked it. Swipe yes and it drops into your yes pile.

- Ask Ember what to cook: a craving in your words, or what's in the fridge, and it narrows the list with you until one dinner is left.

- Optimize any recipe toward keto, low carb, paleo or describe how you would like to rework the recipe to Ember, with honest swaps and what each one costs.

- Compare two versions of a dish and ask Ember what actually differs.

- Macros on every recipe, estimated when the page publishes none. Free.

- Ask Ember, Optimize and Compare's answer are Sift Pro, monthly or yearly, three days free the first time. Everything you already use stays free: capture from Safari, Cook Mode, timers, your library, sync.

- Also: the Home card that asks how you eat now lands on the right spot in your profile. The bottom bar stays put on iOS 26. An evening reminder when today's picks are dealt, if you want one.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-03

- Recipe syncing is now on for everyone. Sign in and your recipes back up and follow you to any device.
- Plus a refreshed App Store page.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-31

- The big one: quitting the app no longer loses your cook. Force-quit mid-brisket and a bar above the tabs offers to pick up right where you were, timer still counting. The Dynamic Island now clears itself too, instead of wearing a countdown nobody could dismiss.

- Share finally shares. One Share button sends the dish and its link anywhere, or just the ingredient list with the scaled amounts.

- Popular on Sift lists what other cooks are actually searching. Your own searches stay anonymous, always.

- The tab bar now ducks under the keyboard the way every iOS app does, long recipe names stop getting cut off on your profile, ingredient rows line up evenly, and the app opens to your library instead of wherever you left off a week ago.

- Your saved email offers itself at sign-in, Compare fits on one screen, the custom batch button says Custom instead of a mystery symbol, and a new About row in your profile shows your version and says when a newer one is on the store.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-31

- Biggest fix: Your cook now lives in the Dynamic Island. Open Cook Mode, swipe out, and the Island shows what you're cooking. Start a timer and it counts down right there, named for its step.

- Search results now run pages deep instead of stopping at ten, you can filter by site or photo, and while Sift reads a page it says so instead of leaving you staring.

- Scale a recipe to whatever you actually need. The preset buttons stay, and a custom multiplier takes 4x, 10x, or two and a quarter.

- Your library is yours to arrange. A new Arrange mode reorders recipes and keeps them that way, a Cooked filter shows what you've been through, and starred favorites wear a touch of red.

- The profile got visual. Your longest cooks draw as a small chart with your average marked, the dish you keep coming back to counts its flames, and the Saved and Cooked tiles now open the things they count.

- Pick light or dark, or use your system settings in Preferences. Your Fahrenheit or Celsius choice now cleans up recipes that list both.

- Recipes without a photo can be given one: add or replace an image while editing.

- Also fixed: Face ID now actually signs you back in instead of asking for another email link, your "what you cook" picks survive signing in, the Continue button no longer hides under the keyboard during setup, checking off steps answers with a small sound, more sites are spotted by the Safari extension, and a quiet check keeps old versions of Sift from limping along broken.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-08-25

- Timers now live in the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen, named for what they time: "Resting 1:58:04", not just a number. They keep counting with the app closed. Stopping one takes two deliberate taps, so brushing the screen mid-scroll cannot end a two hour rest.

- Sift is on iPad. Ingredients sit beside the steps and stay on screen while you scroll.

- Deleting a recipe now gives you six seconds to take it back.

- Come back to a recipe you started days ago and Sift asks whether to continue or start fresh, instead of greeting you with old checked steps and a forgotten timer.

- Send an ingredient list to Reminders, Notes, or a text, with the scaled amounts.

- Setting up the Safari extension is now a tap-through of the real Settings screens rather than three sentences to memorise.

- Also: timers on steps that write the time in words ("rest for one hour"), scaling that keeps both ends of a range (12-14 lb doubles to 24-28), Cook Mode type retuned, search that says when you're offline and that your saved recipes still work, and a cleaner, better aligned recipe screen.
