### 3/5 — Wish it was just a stick figure.

*2013-01-16, version 2.3*

For whatever reason it bugs me its not a simple stick figure. Looks like a dead baby hanging when there are no arms and legs. It's my own fault I never thought about the Image for a moment. I love the content of this app. But just can't stomach it. I removed it.

Very awesome app my daughter loves this app

### 4/5 — Great game for sight words

*2012-08-13, version 2.1*

This is a great app for my daughter to learn her sight words. She likes the challenge of the hangman game itself which pushes her to learn more. I like the graphics that are simple, yet entertaining.

### 5/5 — nice app

*2012-08-13, version 2.1*

As a teacher, I am always looking for new apps to help my students practice their basic skills. With sight word hangman, students are able to practice their sight words. I really like the result feature which allows parents to view their child's progress with each list. This gives parents the tools they need that will help them guide their child's learning.

### 5/5 — Fun to Play

*2012-08-10, version 2.1*

We like to practice our sight words with this game! I like that it has 2 difficulty levels and lots of word lists! It is so engaging, the kids like to play it over and over! It would be neat if we could enter our own word lists, too, to practice specific words from the classroom. Maybe you could offer other options of play, not just the hangman...maybe make a bunny or something! Thanks!

### 5/5 — Great for sight word practice/play!

*2012-08-10, version 2.1*

This is a really fantastic app for sight word practice and play. My kids think this is a game, but I know they're really doing academic work (wink, wink). :) I like the large variety of words that are used and the ability to get an accuracy score at the end. Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Learning fun with a classic game

*2012-07-22, version 2.1*

Great concept for an app for all ages. Who hasn't played hangman? Clear voice instructions, simple and engaging graphics make this a great teaching tool for early learners. Also great for moms & dads to play along too. Added bonus: simple flashcards.

### 5/5 — Spelling is Fun

*2012-07-20, version 2.1*

It was great to see my kids have a blast playing an educational game! If my kids are going to play games on the iPad, this spelling game is one I would recommend to parents.

### 5/5 — High quality voice acting!

*2012-07-20, version 2.1*

I was impressed by the clear male voice that prompted each game and sounded off the words. There's also pleasant background music that adds to the game. This is a nice choice for those looking for a sight words drill.

### 5/5 — This is a great family game - update More words more play!

*2012-07-20, version 2.1*

Our son loves this and so do we because the game is one we can play together! Our favorite kind!
Update - With more words this app is growing with our son and is ready for our younger son. Great App! (and no sound issues here - watch that mute button)

### 4/5 — Fun app

### 5/5 — Fun!

This is a great way to introduce a classic game to a new generation!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not at all like hangman

*2019-03-06, version 2.7*

The sound doesn’t work no matter what settings I adjust and I just see a list of words. No letters. I don’t get it. How is this hangman? There are no instructions that I can find. Only a complaint from another user about the sound under the help section.

### 1/5 — Not able to create own list

*2013-10-07, version 2.6*

Thought from the review you could make your own list. Not true! Dissapointing!

### 1/5 — Sad

*2013-01-12, version 2.3*

Bought this app and it is terrible. It doesn't work at all. So glad I wasted $1.99.

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2012-10-30, version 2.1*

Pointless

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2012-07-31, version 2.1*

It truly is cheap and useless app. Don't buy.

### 1/5 — No sound

*2012-07-19, version 2.1*

What is with the apps that require hearing to play but offer no sound???

### 2/5 — Pretty simple and boring

*2016-07-26, version 2.7*

I down loaded this app for my daughter who is going to 1st grade and she's a newly turned 5 year old. Way too easy and pretty boring.

### 2/5 — Not impressed

*2012-03-06, version 2.0*

This truly is basic but in terms of literacy facilitation it has flaws. The words that are listed along with the target word should be similar to the target word in either spelling or pronunciation, so we know the child is truly reading and not just using their knowledge that the word presented starts with an s so they choose the ONLY word in the list starting with s. My 8 yr old is completely bored by this. Would have liked to see an option to spell words, perhaps, too. I also have concerns about the words chosen for the lists, if this is truly aimed at 4-6 yr olds learning sight reading. Some more phonemically advanced words are mixed with simple words. Thankfully I got it during a free promo.

### 2/5 — Just okay. Should be a free app.

*2011-12-25, version 1.3*

There are no instructions in the app, and since the sound on my iPad was not functioning properly I couldn't figure out what was supposed to be happening. I had to go back to the iTunes store to read the description to figure it out.
All of the words are written in capital letters, and this is not how beginning readers are used to seeing them, so some children will not recognize the words that they have been taught to read elsewhere. Also, the wrong answers that the children are given to choose from should be taken from the same list as the ones they are drilling from for maximum exposure.
The last problem is that there is no reward for getting it right, but if you get the answer wrong, you are rewarded with a fun body part illustration added to the picture. It should be more fun to get it right than get it wrong!

### 3/5 — Not a typical Hangman

*2022-05-11, version 2.7*

I thought this was a traditional hangman game where they had to spell out the words. This is not that. The game is not bad but it is not what I was looking for and I also believe the name was a tad bit misleading.

### 5/5 — Just in time for the new school year

*2016-06-24, version 2.7*

I use this app on daily basis with some of the kids in school. It's simple and easy to use.

### 5/5 — Perfect for my kids

*2016-06-23, version 2.6*

This is perfect for my kids. It's simple to use so I don't have to hover over them when they start playing. This will be good for our summer road trips.

### 5/5 — Fun Seasonal Word Lists

*2013-10-11, version 2.6*

Just discovered the Halloween Word list, just in time for the season. Nice touch!

### 5/5 — Great Spelling App For Kids

*2013-10-07, version 2.6*

This is a wonderful app for my kids. It is entertaining for them and educational which dad enjoys. This is what I call a win win.

### 5/5 — Nice app

*2013-04-06, version 2.4*

It does exactly what it claims to do: practice sight words inside a hangman game context.

### 5/5 — Great for kids

*2013-04-04, version 2.4*

I got this for my little cousin and hes been playing it for hrs and stayin surprisingly calm. Its great, keeps kids entertained while they learn something too!

### 5/5 — Fun way to learn sight words!

*2012-12-12, version 2.3*

This app is great for learning and reviewing sight words. There are different options in the app, which are the hangman game and flashcards. I like that you can choose certain lists to work on and also random lists. I highly recommend this app for a fun way to learn sight words!

### 5/5 — my boy loves this app!

*2012-12-11, version 2.3*

My son at times gets addicted, he loves the joy in saving the stick figure by figuring out the word. I have to pull him away from it at times. :)

### 5/5 — Simple and Good

*2012-08-31, version 2.1*

Sight words hangman is cute and simple. The game is classic with a simple twist that is easy to follow. Sight words are presented in a multiple choice format. Cute graphics. Easy access to options and user friendly for adults all the way down to my tiny kindergarteners. Another feature that would be appreciated/I expected to see and didn't is how I envision classic hangman: a way to play where the kids could guess the letters of a sight word one by one until they figured it out. This would certainly help with the breakdown and spelling of the words. The flash cards are also great but once again, I could use a spelling option (i.e. have the voice say the word and the child have to enter it in using the keypad).
