I would buy the app if this feature was available. ### 4/5 — Almost five stars *2015-06-06, version 4.0* Almost five stars! It would have gotten five stars if the little star that records the child's voice can be canceled if the child misspoke the word, so they can hear the computer voice for the correct pronunciation. Otherwise, great program! My sons really enjoy it! ### 4/5 — Would be great to have a few custom words *2015-03-04* I love this app! One thing I would like to suggest is if we were able to add three or so custom words (I know this is free, so the full version should be able to have more). I enjoy this, and only ask for the custom words so that I may input students' names to practice their own spelling! The only other suggestion I have about the current version is to have the letters reach from the top of the space to the bottom, as they are taught (top, middle, bottom). I think it's great that kids can see the word, hear the word, write the word, and say the word. This app, though simple, integrates many learning styles. My daughter loves the matching & tic tac toe games. Shes a little young for the hangman or spelling games so we skip them. I only wish there was a scramble function or parental control that would allow me to create a list of words my daughter is struggling with. This would make it easier for her to review specific words without having to go through all the words. I may be asking for a lot but it would be nice if there was a trace feature option on the app for the little ones that are still working on writing by way of tracing. Either way this app is teaching my daughter. She knows at least 85 of the words & she's only 3. ### 4/5 — Smart App! *2013-07-28* This app is great for kindergarten and early first grade. The students practice the sight words by, listening, reading, spelling and recording and listening to their own voices pronouncing the words. After each group of five words there is a fun game to reinforce identifying the targeted sight words. I recommend using a stylus for the writing practice. There are a couple things that would make this app better. The print could be in D'Nelian since this is a broadly taught form of handwriting. Also, my students' favorite game is the nature puzzle that follows the first five sight words. I wish that game was available for the other words or on a related app available for purchase. ### 4/5 — Great *2013-01-26, version 3.0* My son loves this app.Good way to start a child . ### 4/5 — sight Words: Kids Learn *2013-01-12* My student's love using this app. The only problem I have with it is that as they're working in the app the "voice" will override the headphones, and play through the speakers. Therefore they use the app until it starts talking through the speakers, which limits there use. If we had a we to track their progress that would be even better!!! ### 5/5 — Brilliant for emergent readers. *2012-12-02* Love the adaptation of classic games like tic tac toe and hangman and concentration after each level. LOVE the record your voice. I can check each student's pronunciation with them after they complete the unit! Will definitely recommend without reservation to our parents. The words are introduced in isolation, instead of in context, so there's a high demand on rote memorisation. That alone is enough to reject the app. The "Noughts and Crosses" game makes no sense -- the player cannot choose his/her own word, but only the word dictated by the program. The player cannot choose own strategy for winning. Whether you win or lose is up to the app -- rather than the player. The sound does not work! What is the point in using this app during "center time" if the students can't self check? I will delete it and find one that has working sound. Maybe someone will post a suggestion! I have a new iPad with the newer operating system and that is why the sound does not work.... But it isn't free. That's what I don't like about it. For some reason, my iPad won't let me put iTunes cards on it. So I wish that it was free. That's all. ### 3/5 — Good and Bad *2013-06-19* I really like the games and the fact that the kids can write the sight words in the lines like they would on a piece of paper. However, the kids don't have to spell the word correct or at all in order to move on. They could just click through or scribble to get to the games. If there was a way to track their progress or give them the option of telling them they need to do their best work, I think that would greatly increase the value of this learning tool. ### 3/5 — Poor Navigation *2013-01-12* This app does a good job of presenting the words, and has some great activities to make learning fun, but the navigation is very rigid. You can't go to a particular place or activity. You have to follow a prescribed sequence to get where you want to go. That is ok the first time through the words, but after that, the child should be able to go straight to Hangman, or another activity without being constrained by the program to go through a sequence first. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Sight words *2016-10-11, version 4.0* Great app. Struggled to find an app which would support the Queensland prep curriculum. Glad to find one which would cover the M100W word lists. Just one comment - it would be good if you could more easily navigate between 1-25 and the higher lists and vice versa. My four year old has learned a lot from this app. He loves recording his own audio. My daughter has been struggling to remember her sight words, this app may have saved the day. They say the word, your little one can write the word and erase it easily if needed. They get to play a fun learning game after completing 5 words. I'm very thankful for this excellent app. ### 5/5 — My 5 yr old loves it! *2013-08-18* My 5 year old loves playing this game. We use it while his brother is in karate, and I am amazed at how well this keeps his attention. I have also been surprised at how well this has helped increase his retention of the sight words. My husband was surprised after a couple of weeks, how well he was reading short books.
