I like that l can customize the lists. ### 4/5 — Good App, not heroic service *2013-10-10, version 4.5* I've used this app for a couple of years and it works well. It is a simple flashcard app that allows the user to record the word this makes it possible for a child to study independently. The interface to add customized lists, which is the only way I use the app, is clumsy. I was excited to hear about the Dropbox integration because I thought it would allow me to make the lists on my computer and then import into the app and add voice. Apparently, that is not so, the Dropbox integration only facilitates sharing between devices - a great feature! - but doesn't help make word list entry less cumbersome. Regarding Support - I emailed support to find out why the dropbox word list files weren't showing up in the app. To which I received the following response, "mine is working fine ;) . Take a look at our other product..." The response offered no troubleshooting or any attempt at all to answer my question. I have emailed 2 or 3 additional times to get an answer to my question and recieved no response. The first response was insulting, particularly so due to the smily face, and now the lack of response suggests to me that they are no longer supporting this product and instead want people to purchase their new product, which by the way, won't work on older ipads like mine. ### 5/5 — Create your own lists! *2013-09-04, version 4.5* This is probably the best sight word app out there. The reason being, you can really customize it. I actually deleted all the lists that came with it and just created my son one with just his current sight words from school. Every week I can just add to it the new words he gets. You type in the word you want on the list and record yourself saying the word. The app creates a flash card for you with that word on it. Perfect! It's very simple and straight forward. ### 5/5 — Great App! *2013-08-25, version 4.5* I am thrilled with this app! Just realized today (have only had it a few days) that under the settings and play mode, you can choose a "game" mode that quizzes kids on the words (choose the word spoken from a list of 2 to 6 words) - LOVE this!! Love that it is customizable! I entered my daughter's preschool sight words (any that weren't already in the preschool list...the preloaded lists are great!), and she's been having a blast quizzing herself. Thanks for this really practical and user-friendly app! ### 4/5 — Good app *2013-04-09, version 4.5* Good app. For all of the reviews that "I" is listed as lower case- this is true by default, but all you have to do is go in and change Capitalization setting to "as entered". The developer entered it as capital "I", but the default setting is "all lower case". Also, changing between review and game/quiz is through settings, which doesn't seem that intuitive. Probably not most user friendly app- you might want to go through settings before handing it off to the little one. Other than that, my kids seem to like it. ### 5/5 — GREAT TOOL! *2013-04-03, version 4.5* The words in the sets have followed my daughter's kindergarten and early first grade curriculum very well. By the second half of the year we switched to making our own word sets. I love how easy it is to do this and my daughter loves hearing her voice read back to her! By using the manual audio setting, I can tell if she's getting the words right even if I can't see the screen. In short, both me and my daughter love to use this app. ### 5/5 — Love it! *2013-03-26, version 4.5* My kindergartener has gotten three sets of sight words, 60 words each, and I was able to customize each set. I really love that you can use the timing feature and have each word show for the amount of time you request before swapping to the next word. I have been able to lower the time as he learned each word better. They will have to say the words at flash speed when entering into 1st grade. This app has made learning his words fun and keeps his attention. Thanks ### 4/5 — Sight words-handy educational app to have! *2013-02-24, version 4.5* I've been using this app with my kindergartener to aid her in sight word recognition and it doing its job--We are on 2nd grade sight words and we still have months of school to go! I love that I am to customize. To "echo" what some other reviews are saying to be a 5 star app: (1) ability to go back one. I have accidentally hit the screen while testing my daughter and it takes forever to get back the word I sped thru, (2) alternating fonts during word lists, (3) common letter grouping sounds (-er, -ing, th-) would be an awesome addition. ### 5/5 — Very user friendly! *2013-02-04, version 4.5* I love this app! Love that I can enter in my kids sight words from school! Only wish that there was a tally of the number of words in each set. Because we have so many words, I want to create sets that have an 'x' amount of words in each set. 30 in one set, 50 in another. I wanted to know just how many words my three year old recognized by sight without someone saying the words or having a picture to help. I like that the sound can be turned on and off to help with the teach and test concept. It was a great way for my struggling students to have to discriminate among multiple words to find the correct sight word. I started recording my own words and the playback was very quiet, and my phone was on full volume. So I thought maybe it’s just the recording feature. I went to a preloaded list, and the audio is just as quiet. You can barely hear it. The app description is now incorrect. I emailed tech support and they basically ignored the question and suggested one of their newer apps (which unfortunately does not work on the iPhone). I used to be able to add words to a custom list and access them on any other device. At first the preloaded sight word groups were the same words that the school used. Now they have changed and the customization features are wonderful to have. There have been times when the app wouldn’t work properly and would crash. However, I have. Also, my little ones have fun recording their voice and listening to them as the cards rotate. It is easy to create and user-friendly. There are so many options as well; with or without recorded voice, show 1 card at a time or more for a challenge. He is a resistant child but once I allowed him to record each word in his own voice, he actually enjoyed it. But it has been great to customize lists. ### 5/5 — Wonderful For Customization! *2013-10-02, version 4.5* I, personally, don't like sight words. Instead of learning to read and spell, kids are basically forced to memorize words instead of learning the rules of phonics and spelling and reading phonetically. However, I got this app because it included the customization feature. My daughter is 4 and is in the beginning reading stages. I am using the book Phonics Pathways (highly recommended) and wanted her to get some practice on the side. So I deleted all of the flashcards that were native and created my own based on the Phonics Pathways book, and the app works like a charm for that. I no longer have "Set 1...Set 5" but have all custom sets specifically geared toward what she is learning currently. Reviewing these words on the app is helping her read more fluently and not choppy like she was before.
