Will it still work ? 🤞🤞 —— Version 2 has been 3 years in the making & whilst it looks a lot more modern it’s significantly worse as regards UX. - giant thumbnails now so scrolling takes 10x longer to locate a clip. Please add an option to make them small, like in the camera view. - live playback, select camera - just is a spinner & never loads - still no option to choose a time in the day to select clips from, which would make things easier. - alerts have stopped working too Support forums are gone now unless you register with Discord. 🤦‍♂️ ### 3/5 — Developer advised they no longer support this app *2024-11-15, version 2.0.3* I think the app is great but such a shame the developers have abandoned supporting it. Even though I pay for support, they have advised that the app is no longer a priority so are not going to fix the notification issues that have come about with the latest IOS 17 updates. Not a great way to treat your loyal customer base. ### 2/5 — Well-intentioned abandonware *2023-06-03* Nice design and idea that is full of bugs and not cared for at all by its developers. ### 3/5 — Doesn’t play well with IOS16 *2022-10-25, version 2.0.3* This was a fairly solid app that has become flaky with the IOS16 release. Video controls don’t work and trying to review historical clips causes a crash. Hoping the developer will honor the commitment made by customers and update the app. Even a subscription model would be worth considering. ### 2/5 — Poor support and overpriced *2022-01-08, version 2.0.3* Back in 2017, Sighthound was is a good choice for setting up your own IP camera security on a Mac. The AI-based image recognition is impressive. However after several years of inadequate software updates and poor support, i’ve abandoned it in favor of other similar apps like SecuritySpy, which offer similar features but is much less expensive and seems to be much better supported as a software product. Reliability is particularly important for IP cam software - I don’t think the Sighthound folks understand this - they are more interested in fancy AI vs reliably triggering and recording events without glitches or gaps. ### 3/5 — App is crashing *2021-06-16, version 2.0.3* The app is crashing on an iPhone XS with 13.6. Installed the latest app and I can barely check a clip before it crashes. Missing features, still doesn’t support larger FaceID devices either in full size or with the FaceID login. Slow to render and see live video. Near impossible to see video history. Please update the app. I’d love to keep the service but I can’t warrant paying for the support or updates of the main software if the iOS app doesn’t get maintained. ### 1/5 — App crashes on iPhone *2019-12-21, version 1.8.2* When alerts increase to a point, which is not clear the app crashes. ONLY FIX IS TRASH THE app and reload ! Terrible It used to work but not it’s not reliable Only works 30% of the time when outside the network —-terrible application ### 1/5 — Update REMOVES most important feature *2019-07-19, version 1.8.2* CEO Jonathon Taylor sends email updates about all the "improvements" coming, meanwhile the Update to this App removed the ability to save video clips locally on the iPad/iPhone. I've used this feature many times in the past, to store a clip as evidence, and now if a clip is lost on the server, its gone. The app is "dated" but that might be acceptable if new features were being added, instead of existing features being removed. I'm a sighthound Pro user who will now be looking at Blue Iris or other solutions. The object detection is interesting/neat, but the user interface experience now makes this product not worth using. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Was good, now rubbish *2025-03-01, version 2.0.3* Very poor experience. I was paying for support for a number of years for Sighthound Video but they simply would not develop a patch for a known issue whereby you cannot use playback on a macOS. For such a critical feature, they said they would no longer update the product and indeed it's not been updated since Q1 2022, yet they are still offering paid support for upgrades which do not exist. How can it be acceptable that they continue to take money from customers to upgrade the license for product upgrades that do not exist? They want to focus more on developing AI products, which is fine, but they've forgotten about their existing user base and abandoned them. When it does connect, blowing dust particles in the infrared set the camera off even though the software is supposed to be so good it detects only people in the area. Shadows from curtains blowing from heat registers set it off, headlights in the yard set alarms off, reflections etc... what I’m getting at here is the software DOESN’T WORK! and the latest update 3 weeks ago now, Sighthound acknowledges is bad and they’re supposedly working to fix it. But until they do, they’re software now DOESN’T DO ANY NOTIFICATIONS AT ALL! What good is surveillance or home security cameras if the software doesn’t notify you!!??? ### 1/5 — Update is no good *2021-02-27, version 2.0.0* Ever since the new update I don’t get any type of notification. The reason I use the app is for my phone to notify me when someone comes on my property. I finally have enough reason to switch everything to unifi... ### 1/5 — New design, same lackluster features. *2021-02-17, version 2.0.0* The design of the old app wasn’t the issue, it was it’s lack of basic security camera app features. Now we get a superficial facelift that is still missing the features that users have been requesting for years. Why is the app limited to only playing back events that match rules? Why can’t I scrub my entire recorded timeline? Why is there a lack of Picture in Picture support when it has been available on the iPad since iOS 9? Why can’t videos or snapshot be saved to the camera roll? Why can’t I set the size of the windows in grid view? Why can’t I configure the resolution of the camera previews in grid view? So far the only 2 new features that I’v been able to find are support for dark mode, although you can’t manually override it, and support for split screen. The developers should be embarrassed by this release. Catch up or get left behind. I’m looking for other options. ### 1/5 — New app interface *2021-02-16, version 2.0.0* The new update sucks. Would be nice if i You could edit and create rules on the app but all in all this is very slick ### 4/5 — Great simple app to control the main system *2020-07-19, version 1.8.2* I have Sight Hound on the Mac and it’s a great and reliable system. This app acts as a remote control for it so you can activate/deactivate it from your phone. It is simple and does what it needs to do. It should be noted that this only works when you are connected to the same network as the main system. SightHound doesn’t open ports on your router, or connects via the cloud. This is a good thing! You should never trust something as sensitive as live video from your home to a camera provider. If you have a consumer grade product that allows you to connect from outside your home network, then it is a question of when, not if, you get hacked. ### 4/5 — Effective *2016-05-16, version 1.2* Sighthound is the best security cam monitoring system out there. The motion analysis is better than any other consumer system I have found.
