## What is SightWord Practice?

Sight words are the words a child learns to recognize on sight rather than sound out — the, and, see, where — and most of learning them is simply practice. SightWord Practice is a deck of flash cards for exactly that, built for a parent and a child sitting together.

Make a list, type in the words from this week's homework, and practice. Your child reads the word; you tap whether they got it. That's the whole loop.

START PRACTICING IMMEDIATELY
The classic Dolch Pre-Primer and Primer lists are built in — 92 words, no typing and no download. Add them with one tap and start.

MADE FOR THE WORDS YOUR CHILD IS ACTUALLY LEARNING
Nothing is locked. Type in the list the teacher sent home, make one per week or one per unit, and rename or edit them whenever the list changes. Drag lists and words into whatever order suits you, or sort them A–Z, by date, or by which words need the most work.

PRACTICE THAT LEANS ON THE HARD ONES
Choose a single pass through a list, or keep going until you stop. Words that get missed come round more often than words already known, so time goes where it is needed — or turn that off and keep every word equally likely.

HEAR THE WORD
Tap the speaker on a card to hear the word said out loud, or play Listen & Pick: your child hears a word and finds it among four, and it counts toward that word's record like any card. Choose the voice, or hide the speaker if it gives the answer away.

SEE HOW THE SESSION WENT
Every session ends with the words split into what went well and what needs practice, so you know what to work on tomorrow without keeping a tally in your head.

KEEPS TRACK WITHOUT KEEPING SCORE AT YOUR CHILD
Each word quietly remembers how it has been going, and recent sessions count for more than old ones — so a word your child has finally learned stops being treated as a problem. There are no points, streaks, badges, or anything designed to keep a child tapping.

SHARE A LIST WITH ANOTHER PARENT
Send a list to another family by Messages, Mail, or AirDrop, and they can open it straight into the app. Lists carry only the words — never your child's practice history.

MORE LISTS WHEN YOU WANT THEM
Download further ready-made lists, including more of the Dolch sets, without typing anything in.

CHOOSE HOW IT FEELS
Cards can slide, flip, fade, or change instantly, and the app respects Reduce Motion. Celebrate with confetti, fireworks, balloons, or sparkles — every right answer, only a good session, or not at all.

NO ACCOUNTS, NO ADS, NO TRACKING
No sign-in. No advertising. No analytics. Nothing is collected about you or your child, and nothing is sold or shared. Your lists stay on your device and sync through your own iCloud account, which we cannot see.

Made by a dad in Austin, Texas, for his daughter's kindergarten class.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2.0 — 2026-10-29

New: your child can hear the words.

• Hear the word. Tap the speaker on a flash card and the word is said out loud. You can turn it off in Settings if it gives the answer away.
• Listen & Pick. A new game: your child hears a word and finds it among four. A wrong tile turns red and the word is said again.
• The practice trail. A path across the top of practice shows how far through the session you are and how each word went.
• A more natural voice. Choose the voice that says the words, and see how to download a better one for free.
• Balloons and Sparkles. Two new ways to celebrate a good session, or let Surprise Me pick.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-10-22

The screen now stays on while a card is up, so it no longer dims while your child is sounding out a word. It goes back to normal a couple of minutes after the last touch.

Download several lists at once. In Lists to Download, tap Select, choose as many as you like, and they all arrive together. A list you already have just gets its new words.

Bug fixes and stability improvements.
