## What is SignQuest?

SignQuest teaches the American Sign Language manual alphabet, numbers, and a starter vocabulary through short lessons you work through in order.

Every sign is drawn in code on your screen, at a large, clear size. The 26 letters and numbers are still handshapes; the 45 word signs are animated against a head-and-shoulders outline, because where a sign happens and how it moves are part of what it means. Mother and Father differ only by chin versus forehead.

WHAT'S INSIDE
- 13 chapters: the alphabet, fingerspelling, numbers, greetings, family, colors, food, feelings, reading whole sentences, and Deaf culture
- 66 lessons, including a Watch & Build lesson and an automatic review at the end of a chapter
- 394 exercises in nine formats, from "what does this sign mean" and fingerspelling to building a sign from its three parts and reading a signed phrase
- 82 signs in all: the 26 letters, the numbers 0-10, and 45 common words

HOW A LESSON WORKS
Lessons unlock one at a time, so you know what to do next. You have 5 hearts; a wrong answer costs one, and one returns every 30 minutes. Miss a question and you get the answer plus a short explanation, and it returns once more before the lesson ends. XP earns 13 level titles, from New Signer to Signing Star.

BEYOND RECOGNIZING SIGNS
Every ASL sign is made of three things: a handshape, a place on the body, a movement. Watch & Build lessons give you the meaning and ask you to choose all three, with a preview that redraws as you pick. The Reading Sentences chapter plays whole phrases straight through and asks what they meant, each with its ASL gloss and the grammar behind it.

REVIEW THAT SCHEDULES ITSELF
Every graded answer feeds a spaced-repetition queue. Signs you get right return at widening intervals; signs you miss return sooner, and keep doing so. Survive a three-week gap and a sign leaves for good. A Review card appears on the Learn tab whenever something is due.

PRACTICE AND ARCADE
- Fix your mistakes: questions you have missed are served back until you get them right
- Quick practice: 10 random questions from finished lessons
- Practice never costs hearts and gives one back when you finish
- Sign Sprint (60 seconds): a sign appears, tap what it means
- Spell Reader (45 seconds): read a fingerspelled word and name it
- Match Mania (60 seconds): clear boards of sign-to-meaning pairs
- Category Sort (60 seconds): letter or number? Clear the board in time
- Sentence Builder (60 seconds): tap signs in order to build the phrase shown
- Story Signer (90 seconds): read a whole signed phrase, then say what it meant
- Every game keeps your best

KEEP GOING
Pick a daily XP goal of 10, 20, 30, or 50 and watch the ring fill on the Learn tab. Daily and longest streaks are tracked. The Locker holds 10 buddy characters and 8 color themes: one of each is yours from the start, and every locked item shows how to earn it.

SIGN DICTIONARY
Search all 82 signs, filter to letters, numbers, words, or starred, and open any for a large animated view with slow motion, the three parts it is built from, and other signs in the same place.

ABOUT THE SIGNS
The signs are drawn illustrations, not recordings of a signer, and cannot show facial expression, which carries grammar in ASL. This app is an introduction to fingerspelling and vocabulary, not a certification, and not a substitute for a class or for practice with Deaf signers. SignQuest is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any Deaf organization or school.

GOOD TO KNOW
- Lessons, practice, and games run on your device, progress stays on it, and there is no account or sign-up
- Supported by ads, including an optional video ad you can watch for one extra heart. Ads need an internet connection.
- No in-app purchases
