For a few months. Or should I say played along. Hoping and praying this would spiral into something amazing but was ultimately let down by a very underwhelming amount of bad animation, voice acting, bad decisions, and quite frankly a huge let down with the fact that this went nowhere for so long. This is NOT silent hill. This isn’t even part of the universe. I would never consider this to be part of silent hill and everyone who asks about it I tell them it’s a waste of time and a huge disappointment. You spent all this time and effort to make something nobody wanted or asked for. The community wants another GAME. ANOTHER MOVIE or TV SHOW. We don’t want some weird decision based strangely animated app. Please take this off the App Store and if you ever try again don’t do this. Don’t do this ever. It wasn’t “different” it wasn’t “quirky and cool” it was bad. Im very disappointed because the game did look interesting since I rlly love silent hill ### 2/5 — Interesting but misses the mark *2024-02-09, version 1.0.9* There are many points that make it evident that this is largely ai generated and those factors make this new serial animated silent hill feel unreal in a negative way. There are a lot of engaging points to the plot and the characters are not necessarily without dimension but some of the main characters are repetitive and 2-dimensional. Rachel and Krista in both their dynamic together and their personalities are grating and repetitive. The same for Astrid. These 3 characters are unbelievable in how shallow they are and when they doubt themselves or their surroundings they just seem to forget that doubt and become repetitive again. The same is true of the child characters, orson and faith. When they go missing we don’t miss them… they weren’t endearing children and the ai doesn’t seem to understand what a child is or even what a child looks like. The motions of characters who are walking or standing (don’t seem to know what to do with their hands) are awkward and move more like androids than humans. Some of the plot points are vague and confusing. Hopefully they’re resolved… but I don’t know how much patience I will have for this continued ambiguity of what has always been a strong franchise. There are some solid fundamentals here but there are a lot of dangling plot points that are often indicative of writing on committees. I appreciate the ingenuity and innovation of what the producers are doing with this, it seems like it might be a bit ambitious or like supplements to wrap up loose plot points might be necessary. I also felt like the long break kind of killed the audience’s interest and felt like we haven’t seen anything suspenseful like previous Silent Hill games and movies have. It would have also been awesome if they included original concepts like pyramid head and nurses. I was really hoping to see more of the actual town of Silent Hill and the horrors inside it. Its hard to believe that the people creating this are diehard fans because the community has been begging for a classic style Silent Hill for a long time. However my main complaint and why i rated this two stars was the daily games. The tutorials are vague and I could not find any additional information online on how to play the new games added which majorly affected my interest sense this is how to collect IP and raise characters hope. I also was frustrated how all games added new levels daily for pass holders which resulted in having to play for hours daily just to catch up as a free player. My game often crashes when i try to vote and have missed out on livestreams because of glitching. The first 3 games were amazing. Just seems like silent hill just keeps going downwards. The characters in ascension are just so boring and not likable. To simply call this a bad Silent Hill is a gross understatement. The story is laughably bad, and the characters motives make no sense. The vibe is way off for Silent Hill. Think budget Until Dawn but written by AI and Tommy Wiseau. We'd be delighted to work on it. ### 1/5 — Very disappointed *2024-03-21* Was really excited to try this out being a die hard silent hill fan but I was very disappointed. Everything feels cheap, and the story is not good at all. This was a huge let down and many others agree. I love silent hill and their best was when they made the silent hill 1-4 games in the ps1-ps2 era. My advice is to either scrap this, or give us the level of horror and everything that was present in silent hill 4. We as fans just want really good games like silent hill 1-4. I would love another game or another piece of media to be like silent hill 4, that was my favorite. The story was engaging and I loved the characters. It definitely had the SH vibes and intrigued me. I am part of those who played Silent Hill games back in late 90’s and early 2000’s on PS1. These games are still some of the best games I ever played so my expectations with this project were high. If I keep being disappointed sometimes by community’s decision, I truly enjoy the experience and I think it is faithful to the original game. You don’t need to buy a season pass to participate and earn rewards. I keep being involved on a daily basis and I earn enough IP to contribute my way. Ascension features live decision-making and quicktime events, pre- and post-show breakdowns with the developers, in-app minigames that influence characters’ mental states, weekly-compiled episodes on Tubi, a soundtrack by cEvin Key of legendary industrial band Skinny Puppy and more.
