## What is Silo Sweep?

Silo Sweep reviews the photo library on your iPhone or iPad for near-duplicates, burst runs, blurry frames, screenshots, screen recordings and large videos, then waits for your decision on each one.

Near-matches are grouped around one keeper. A photo joins a group only if it resembles that group's keeper directly, never through a chain of in-between shots, so a slowly changing sequence is not collapsed into one pile. Two items are called exact duplicates only when a SHA-256 digest of their real image data matches, including a Live Photo's video and any edited version.

Swipe to keep or toss. Each group always keeps at least one photo. Photos you toss go through Apple's own confirmation and then stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days, so you can change your mind.

After a sweep, Silo Sweep reads the library back and reports what actually moved, what was already gone, and what it could not check. With Limited Library access it says so instead of guessing. A queued photo is never counted as deleted, and you can export the record as a CSV file.

Want to see how it works before granting Photos access? Open the built-in sample library.

Scanning, grouping and review run on your device, even in Airplane Mode. There is no account, no analytics and no subscription. One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Requires iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 or later.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7.0 — 2026-09-29

A new name, Silo Sweep: Photo Duplicates, and a new icon. The sample library now shows an example picture in every group: a near-match pair, an exact pair, a burst, a screenshot and two videos. You can try a full review before granting Photos access, and scanning your own photos afterwards no longer counts the sample's screenshots and videos.

### 1.6.2 — 2026-09-21

Partial folder cleanups now report exactly what moved, what remains, and why. The deletion record and review state stay truthful when a system move is canceled or only some items succeed.

### 1.6.1 — 2026-09-02

Maintenance release: rebuilt with the current toolchain. Scanning, review and cleanup are unchanged.

### 1.6.0 — 2026-08-31

Export a truthful deletion record after review. The new CSV separates what you asked Silo Sweep to delete from what the system later confirmed, and clearly marks canceled, failed, already-gone, sample, and Limited Library results without including Photos identifiers.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-08-11

Stopping a scan now really stops it. On a large library the duplicate-finding pass kept running after you tapped Stop, so the app carried on working in the background and the progress bar sat still for minutes at a time. Both long stages of a scan can now be interrupted straight away, and both show how far they have got.

Stopping or repeating a scan no longer breaks the groups you already had. Duplicate groups from an earlier scan could be left listed on the dashboard but open with nothing in them, over photos that were still there. They stay intact and reviewable, and copies are now reviewed oldest first.

Space figures are honest about ordinary photos. The dashboard counted every photo it had no opinion about towards recoverable space, so most of your library was described as reclaimable. That column is gone, and the total now means what it says: everything the scan examined.

A scan that cannot run says so. If Photos access has been turned off, or a scan stops or fails, the dashboard now tells you instead of leaving the previous results on screen as if they were new.
