### 4/5 — Math hound

*2026-05-23, version 3.1.7*

Sometimes inconsistent syntax and results. Once you know what they are, it's a neat product.

### 4/5 — Decent but Missing Features

*2026-05-15, version 3.1.7*

Developer: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add the ability to change number format. I don’t always want output to display in scientific notation. Really annoying.

### 3/5 — The mass of the can only be complied and saved in 1 language.

*2026-03-18, version 3.1.7*

The mass of the can only be complied and saved in 1 language.

### 4/5 — Really a great app, but it can improve a lot

*2025-06-17, version 3.1.7*

The app is great, and the work done so far is amazing, makes it almost perfect for teaching matlab-octave languages. But UI is really frustrating, and I do hope to see more like MATLAB desktop UI (also considering now menu bar, new multitasking on iPadOS 26) and there are many missing functions (e.g. imread, imshow…), not clear why most files are not ablet to be imported/change folder

### 4/5 — Needs help file

*2024-10-24*

Great app however one must also have the lesser Console app to have complete access to the help pages. I figure it is an oversite but this has been the case since I first got this app several years ago.

Developers: Please get the help working so I do not need both apps...

### 3/5 — Good App, works perfect, but more funciones are needed

*2023-12-09, version 3.1.6*

I’d like to ask for a refund, as the app can’t run my codes for a lack of built in functions (sparse or three dots in my case). The app is excellent, but not useful for me. Thank you.

### 4/5 — Bien mais incomplète

*2022-10-26, version 3.08*

### 4/5 — Interface++, libraries - -

*2021-06-04, version 2.20.0*

Good interface. Any way to allow us to import Octave .m libraries? All that code is open source you know.

### 3/5 — A Promising Start

*2021-04-20, version 2.20.0*

SIMO works on both iOS and the new M1 macs but beware of memory limitations in both.
I cannot confirm how compatible it is with MATLAB but it is missing a great number of the standard Octave functions. I can only hope that it improves.

### 3/5 — Very small feature set

*2021-01-08, version 2.20.0*

Basic maths calculations are ok. But doesn‘t have hist for example.

### 4/5 — Eine erstaunlich gute...

*2020-12-06, version 2.20.0*

### 3/5 — Plots savings

*2020-05-09, version 2.18.3*

Please add plot saving in pdf and eps

### 4/5 — Very good

*2020-03-18, version 2.18.3*

Please add reading .mat and .fig files and importing files in .zip

### 3/5 — Falta de comandos y funciones

*2019-05-20, version 2.17.1*

### 3/5 — Not much here

*2018-03-25, version 2.8.1*

Try rref on a matrix. The ui is clunky and not intuitive but i could get used to that if the first simple linear algebra attempts had worked. Buy one of the other apps.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Disappointing though could be refined given price point

*2025-03-16, version 3.1.7*

No drawnow, axis—can’t animate. Devs, fix plotting!

### 1/5 — Only for basic programming

*2021-08-26, version 2.20.0*

It does have Global function and does not have an ode solver. It’s not useful to solve any complex math functions as it does not have the solvers. No way it’s MATLAB!!

### 1/5 — Examples don’t run

*2021-01-12, version 2.20.0*

There’s a note in the readme file which says that in order to run one of the examples within a subfolder of the examples folder, you need to navigate to the file ... but then also you need to manually specify the same path in the settings, so that the app will know how to find the very file you've executed. (design logic alarm bells ringing loudly....).

Very frustrating especially given that the screenshots etc give the impression that a lot of work has gone into this. But no documentation either.... not happy with my purchase at this stage.

### 1/5 — Missing Language Syntax - Not Full-Featured!

*2019-10-03, version 2.18.0*

Within 30 seconds, I found out that I WASTED my money. This app does NOT support anonymous functions, structs, or cell arrays, which are a part of the Matlab syntax. By not supporting these language features, Simo is NOT a full-featured Matlab replacement. I can forgive not having every built-in function, but advertising as full-featured but lacking critical language syntax is INCREDIBLY MISLEADING.

In addition, I cannot hide the Simo keyboard when using an external keyboard. It doesn't handle keyboard presses such as Enter when using the command line. You can't change the font size or swap line-wrap/line-continuation when editing text. All of these issues make using the editor and the command prompt very frustrating.

### 1/5 — It doesn’t even have basic functions from MATLAB

*2018-11-25, version 2.15.0*

It does not have basic functions from matlab like print. Does not have a symbolic math library, cant run one script from another. No breakpoint feature available, it’s just too difficult to work with

### 1/5 — Bad

*2018-01-22, version 2.7.0*

Still needs support for transfer functions, bode diagrams, etc.

### 1/5 — Difficult to get working.

*2016-03-31, version 2.2.0*

Very difficult to get anything to work. Says error on line 1 constantly.

### 1/5 — N ope

*2016-03-17, version 2.2.0*

Can't make it work at all.

### 2/5 — Clever but lacking in functions

*2022-11-04, version 3.08*

The SIMO app is close to being a great tool. It allows writing matlab scripts and execution of them on your local device. It has a good user interface and support in terms of built in documentation. Unfortunately, only about 239 functions are included. There is no FFT or spectral analysis capability. This app is at present only useful for learning basic matlab programming, but has the promise to be a great portable solution for matlab programming if it is developed further.

### 2/5 — Not enough

*2018-01-23, version 2.7.1*

It’s a nice start and for sure much simpler and faster than the original MATLAB app. However many MATLAB features are missing (e.g. you don’t even have a “var” command to calculate the variance; there is no “solve” to solve systems of equations; etc.). I’ll check it again in a few months after some updates (hopefully).

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app for scientific studies

*2021-10-21*

I really enjoy using this app for a orbital mechanics. It is simple and easy to use. I also like being able to use the script files I create on my pc with Matlab.

Overall, my experience using this app has been excellent!

### 5/5 — Very useful app. Countinues to improve with more available functions

*2020-10-05, version 2.19.1*

Very useful app. Countinues to improve with additional available functions

### 5/5 — A game changing app

*2020-08-09, version 2.18.3*

As an engineering researcher, I use Matlab a lot. Calculators don’t quite make the grade when solving back of the envelope problems that involve complex numbers, hyperbolic functions, and the occasional algorithm. I’m much more comfortable typing in a Matlab expression.

My first impressions of SIMO are overwhelmingly positive. The UI is well thought out and even a bit clever. Swiping left and right in the title bar to switch between the File Manager, Editor, Console and Plot Windows takes full advantage of the iOS interface. The import/export options, use of iCloud, ability to use csv files, keyboard options, and the plot manager are all well thought out. While some specialized functions like Bode plots and Smith Charts aren’t (yet) present, the list of supported functions seems very complete and will suit most of my needs. And the app is being actively developed and supported.

The support from the developer is outstanding. Replies are prompt and most helpful.

SIMO won’t replace Matlab on my laptop but I expect that my calculator will get a lot less use now while iPad will get a lot more use. It’s certainly changed the way that I think of my iPad when I’m doing engineering calculations. Well done!

### 5/5 — A tiny and functional version of Scilab, octave, matlab users...

*2019-09-20, version 2.18.0*

A tiny and functional version of Scilab, Octave, Matlab users

### 5/5 — Muy buen programa (app)

*2019-06-19, version 2.17.4*

Felicidades!

### 5/5 — Genial

*2019-01-05, version 2.16.0*

Wow matlab on iPad... what else do you want ? Excellent work dude!

### 5/5 — Assez bien

*2018-03-20, version 2.8.1*

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2018-03-20, version 2.8.1*

Great app and insanely fast Support!

### 5/5 — Loved it!❤️

*2018-02-08, version 2.7.1*

Awesome app! Wish there could be more build-in functions though! Hopefully it can replace the need to use MATLAB on PC for homework purposes. Please add symbolic support

### 5/5 — Yeah great idea and the plots look great. Nice crisp lines.

*2017-08-04, version 2.5.0*

Simple octave scripts translate without modification. But there are differences as you might expect.
