Every 15 min new articles. It will be nice if you add widgets for iOS and to have notifications when articles is onlines. ### 2/5 — Update… whatever *2024-08-29* Simple Flying was one of my go to apps if I was bored, loved reading the articles and the design. Of course someone had to get the idea to ruin the perfect design and completely overhaul the whole app. It’s way to YouTube and podcast based and not what it used to be. The amount of daily articles is incredible a long with a daily YouTube video and a long haul video once every few days. Been using this for over two years now. Please can there be a dark mode? It hurts my eyes when it’s dark and I want to read. ### 3/5 — Will we ever get the app back *2023-04-03, version 3.0* I have been a long time reader of simple flying for years it’s still one of the best platforms for aviation news. That being said it seems since the site was acquired in the fall of 2021 the new direction has given us an app which does not meet the standards we are used to. The old app allowed us to pay for an ad free experience and actually allowed us to save favorite articles and was designed for the reader. Then we were told we are building a new app for you and the app was broken for months. We were then provided this current app which feels like it is just a wrapper containing the site and not a experience anymore. It feels like the app we were promised was from the old leadership and new leadership had decided to just get the app back running and that’s good enough rather then provide us an app which we could actually use day in and day out. My question is will we ever see the day when the app is back to its former glory and returned to the reader the experience we are used to. Will this app ever be updated as it feels abandoned nearly 6 months later. ### 4/5 — Okay, but needs work. *2023-02-23, version 3.0* Whenever I open the app, it says “403 not found” and makes me redirect to the website in app. I am fine with being redirected there, however it can be quite annoying. Pointless articles that offer nothing. Its a NONSTOP feed of ‘slow news day’ articles. I had higher hopes. Edit: I got banned for leaving a negative review. ### 1/5 — Lazy Journalism *2025-08-09, version 3.1* Many of the articles are repetitive, poorly written and just plain factually incorrect. When you have read enough of this apps content, you cannot escape the suspicion that most of the content is not original and is either wholly or partially written by AI. Assuming that some of the content is not plagiarised, the writers could best be described as amateur travel writers rather than professional aviation journalists. It has a lot of potential but it’s a lazy poorly edited platform. ### 1/5 — Used to be a good app; no unusable!! *2024-12-15, version 3.1* If I had 4 thumbs, I’d give this app 4 thumbs down. (1) I used to enjoy this app pretty much on a daily basis, but beginning in early December 2024 the app started forcing advertisement after advertisement at me to the point where the app is unusable. (2) The app used to just have occasional advertisements embedded in the articles, but now the screen is about 90% filled with multiple advertisements including ~50% taken up by embedded ads, ~20% with an ad docked toward the bottom, and ~20% random pop up videos while constantly opening some random webpage in Safari every few seconds without me clicking on anything. (3) Has the code for this app been compromised by hackers?? (4) I totally understand running an app has expenses and finding a way to monetize the app is 100% fair, but do it in a less obnoxious way!! Originally the information passed to users was “Under Maintenance” so I emailed the team asking for an indication of when they expected the app would be working again but unfortunately no reply. A second follow-up email returned the same result - nothing! Whilst I enjoy the content produced by the team (as published on their website) it’d be great to the see the app operating once again.
