### 2/5 — Seems okay but

*2026-02-27*

I can’t justify the subscription price. I’ve had lots of issues where the data sync just dies and it decides that much of my portfolio is worth negative money - not all of it, mind - and that tells me that I can’t trust the data.

### 2/5 — This is a subscription app.

*2026-02-06, version 31*

Simple Stocks looks good. But almost no useful features are available unless one subscribes at $4 a month.

### 2/5 — Ok, but...

*2025-12-03*

App does not calculate correctly month over month, i.e., month end and portfolio is worth $xxx, start of new month has portfolio at $xxx - some variable random amount, so you can never have a correct change month over month (or month end portfolio value). Seems pretty basic, but does not calculate this correctly over the last 18 months I've been using.

### 4/5 — Great app, but…

*2025-07-01*

This app has worked well for me over the years. You can also see from the version history that the dev has made a lot of very useful updates to this app over time. Aside from automatic transaction download/entry (which would likely be a very heavy lift), there probably aren't too many additional features that most users could ask for.

The missing fifth star is just for those of us that paid for this app in its earlier days and helped the (very responsive) dev work through issues. New users and previous paid users pay the same subscription price - even though some of the features the previous users already "paid" for (so we have to "pay" for them again). It's not about the money. Just the consideration.

I have no doubt this app will continue to be very competitive in this space. I haven't come across too many apps that do all of what it does — especially at this price point.

### 4/5 — Beautiful app, great usability, no import options, non sensical subscription

*2025-02-17, version 18.0*

I love this app, it looks great, easy to use and syncs automatically with your Mac.

It’s too bad there is no “import” option such as importing transactions from a CSV file, I had to re-enter years of transactions by hand, which was tedious.

My main criticism is that the app sells fixed features as a subscription instead of an in-app purchase. This is a common disease on the App Store where app developers want monthly payment for a fixed feature such as the recent addition of crypto currency support. I would have gladly paid 30$ once for having all the features but I will never pay a monthly fee for the integration of information which is basically free… This is non sense.

Edit: I can’t answer response to my review so I’ll add it here. Yes I understand there is a cost associated with a data provider which will increase over time, though it should be proportional with the number of paid users. By charging a monthly fee for arbitrary picked features, paid users pay for free users and therefore get charged more than it should to compensate. I would simply not pay 5$ per month when my broker does not even charge a dime and offers the same information, though I would gladly pay once for a functionality. It’s not independent developers fault if that plague of a subscription model keeps riddling the App Store. As such I will update my rating up and wish you success 🙏 If you ever decide to make a version of the app with a one time payment, I’ll be your first customer.

### 4/5 — Lifetime purchase please !

*2025-01-06*

The new version of the app is a game changer. Most issues have been addressed and useful new features implemented. However, what used to be a free app is now linked to a membership to unlock all features. Sorry, but memberships are getting wild nowadays and I wish you could offer users a one-time payment.

### 2/5 — Used to be great

*2024-12-30*

It used to be a great app, I used it mainly for its interesting widgets.

Unfortunately, from one day to another it stopped working, I deleted the app and downloaded it again to try to fix the problem.

I realized that after an update I did not have access to the European stock market anymore. If I want to keep using the app I have to pay.

If you do not trade on the American market, keep in mind that you won’t be able to use the app for free.

I will have to find another app.

### 2/5 — Simple 10 stock portfolio

*2024-12-19, version 15.4*

It crashes once per day. Takes 2-3 reloads before it comes back up. Good thing I use it for tracking test strategies and not real money.

### 3/5 — All entered data missing

*2024-12-19*

It’s a good app with many helpful features but everything I entered was erased at some point, probably just after the most recent app update. Everything gone.

**Developer response:** Hi sorry to hear you are facing an issue with the app, please can you email axel@simplestocksapp.com and I will help resolve the issue for you.

### 3/5 — Manual Entry, and No Mutual Funds

*2024-12-17*

Nix one star for having to enter everything manually instead of any import or sync-with-account function which, realistically, means no historical data unless you an recreate each transaction from before you started using the app. Nix second star for not allowing mutual funds. The app’s name is “Simple Stocks,” so that part is dead-on honest: stocks. But the subcategory says “Portfolio Tracker,” which is way off: not your full investment portfolio if you have any mutual funds.

**Developer response:** Hi LL, thanks for the feedback, version 16 of Simple Stocks released Dec 23 now features way more symbols including ETFs and Mutual Funds. Please give it a try and let me know at (axel@simplestocksapp.com) if anything is missing for you. The ability to import transactions is also high on the list of upcoming features - the aim is to make this available in February.

Thanks,
Axel.

### 2/5 — Cannot specify share lots while selling

*2024-10-01*

Cannot specify share lots while selling. I had to uninstall because of this.

### 3/5 — Very good, but missing…

*2024-07-02*

The app is compact, elegant and easy to navigate. It’s aesthetically pleasing and, so far, functions well. Unfortunately, the transaction choices are limited to only buy and sell- no dividend options.
*Subtracting a star due to unresponsiveness of developer.

### 3/5 — Logging in with Apple ID

*2024-06-02*

There should be no reason to logon with your Apple ID. The application should just sync with iCloud like most applications that are cross-device.
Why do you need to keep information on your server?

### 1/5 — Still Not Working v18.0

*2025-02-16, version 18.0*

What’s going on? Hard to believe you keep pushing out your app that does not work. I use to enjoy using your app but now all it does is take up HD space.

### 1/5 — Lack of Ownership

*2025-01-02*

This app is exactly what I was looking for. I entered my data sparing 6 hours. It worked fine for 4 days and then crashed!! Since then, it is not opening on iPhone, Mac, or iPad. I should have spent time entering the same data into excel. Anyway, I used ChatGPT to prepare an excel template to provide this exact same output for no cost!!

**Developer response:** Hi, I am very sorry for the inconvenience. Version 16.2 is now out which resolves the issue. Please reach out to axel@simplestocksapp.com if you require any further assistance.

### 1/5 — Not particularly simple and a subscription

*2024-12-28*

The UI is glitzy but not intuitive enough to be called “simple” for me. I was looking for an app where I could add my stock activity, see how many of each holding, avg. cost, sell, profit, loss etc. … this app may do that but I have to hunt all over to find each piece of information. The pie charts look okay, but are not helpful for my simple needs. I purchased the app about 3-4 days before the developer went to a subscription plan (I hate them and no longer support ANY subscription apps).

I have had to select the apps I use based on no subscriptions. I’ll happily buy an app, but getting roped into an expensive subscription is not for me. If you’ve got LOTS of money subscriptions may suit you, I don’t, so must buy only what I need based on cost/value not subscription entanglement.

**Developer response:** Hi Wdav, thanks for the feedback, I will take it on board. If you have any other specific suggestions that would make the app better/more useable for your needs please reach out to axel@simplestocksapp.com and I will happily work them into the app.

Regarding the subscription plan. All existing features that you were using in Simple Stocks prior to the introduction of the subscription are, and will continue to be available to you, for free, indefinitely.

The subscription is completely optional and grants access to new features that require additional data with relatively high running costs that therefore cannot be feasibly provided without a subscription.

Thanks,
Axel.

### 1/5 — Not very intuitive!

*2024-12-27*

The layout is Glitzy, but absolutely non-intuitive.
A Pages or Excel spreadsheet with a just putting in a few minutes effort would provide much easier to read and useful information.
Just after I purchased the app the developer "DISCOVERED" how to go to subscription pricing. I have had to select the apps I use based on NO subscriptions. I’ll happily buy a reasonably priced app, but getting roped into another useless subscription, no way!

### 1/5 — There is a world outside America

*2024-10-02*

What a waste of time...thank goodness it was a small donations. If you are going to develop a program, surly it needs to be compatible for uses outside America? Cannot find my stock on the London and EU market!

### 1/5 — NO CRYPTO

*2024-07-14, version 14.4*

No bitcoin, etherium or crypto of any kind, only their ETF

### 1/5 — Simple, all right

*2024-02-13, version 14.4*

does not include ETFs...worthless

### 1/5 — Functionality

*2024-01-20*

The program charged me $2.99. It crashes every couple of minutes, won’t accept input such as DODGX a Dodge and Cox mutual fund and the functions mostly aren’t live. If the app worked I imagine it would be pretty good. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked for me so far.

### 1/5 — No stock price in watch list?!?

*2023-08-21, version 14.0*

Basic functionality missing.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Useful, Functional, and Always Up to Date

*2025-10-31*

I really like this app and the developer’s dedication to keeping it constantly updated with new features. I can create several stock portfolios, track my investments and their progress over the years, and more. The widgets are very well designed and are the ones I use most every day. The developer is also quick to respond to any issues or questions. Great work!

### 5/5 — Best support. Great app

*2025-10-08*

Think this is only my second or third ever review. Reason is I like to acknowledge great support. I noticed a glitch the other day and Axel responded and fixed ( releasing an update) within hours. Great app. Is it perfect, of course not, it could use a few additional wish list features but it does more than the average person needs. Brilliant.

### 5/5 — Simple, easy, perfect.

*2025-08-26*

I like to keep tabs on my investment accounts with several companies. This was exactly what I was looking for. It was easy to set up and easy to use. I would love to have a few more graph options but this software is great.

### 5/5 — 5 Stars

*2025-03-10, version 19.2*

Great App

### 5/5 — Superb App

*2024-09-25*

I’ve been using this for about 15 months. It is easy, efficient , well designed, simple, and a pleasure to use.

### 5/5 — As simple as it gets

*2024-04-03*

This app is perfect for my needs. I can track the record of my purchases, monitor the stock evolution based on the purchase date, and quickly assess my current situation. It would be nice to have a tab displaying the daily graph, but I can manage without it.

### 5/5 — Great way of keeping track of your Stocks & Portfolios

*2024-02-29*

Gave this 5 star review as its very use to use and provides great visualisations of my stocks and portfolios. Paid the small price of £2.99 to get multiple portfolios, set them up and now its a doddle to keep track of them.
Some financial software has too many bells and whistles and clutter, this has exactly what you need - easy to read Open Positions, Pie Charts, Monthly/Yearly Performance and so on.

### 5/5 — 5 Stars

*2023-11-08*

Love the app but not fond of your new updated widget. Please consider having the option of selecting the previous version of the widget.

### 5/5 — Simple & Efficient

*2023-10-28*

One of the best portfolio apps I’ve used in awhile mainly for the simple user friendly interface. Navigation is quick, simple, clean and very intuitive to the essential information you need without overdoing it. If you’re into Apple Watch companion app even better.

### 5/5 — Very Good

*2023-07-27*

This tool is very good for tracking a portfolio at a glance and see which shares are doing well. The heatmap is one of the most used features. Considering that it is essentially free it is amazing.

My only word of caution is that some stocks on the minor European exchanges are not trackable (i.e Swiss and Denmark). Having said that it giives me a good indicator of how everything else is doing.
