## What is SimpLoop?

SimpLoop - A (Fairly) Simple Looper Plugin (AUv3)

SimpLoop is an audio effect plugin that can run standalone, or in any AU compatible host application such as Logic Pro or GarageBand.

Overview - SimpLoop is a fairly simple looper

What does "fairly simple" mean? Well, SimpLoop can be configured to be a very simple one button looper - tap to record a loop, tap again to play your loop, then tap to stop and clear the loop. Alternatively, you could assign 6 button functions and two expression controllers to a MIDI hardware controller for an extremely dynamic live looping setup.

To help understand what SimpLoop is, it might be easier to cover what SimpLoop is not... SimpLoop does not have any form of tempo sync capability, or support for multiple sync'd loop tracks or A/B "verse" / "chorus" sections, etc. SimpLoop also does not have an undo function or support for importing audio files (*), and it does not remember the recorded loop between sessions. There are several more advanced looper apps that do those sort of things, but if you're new to looping, or you just need a compact and basic looper to include in your setup, SimpLoop was designed for you!

(*) You can export your recorded loops as .WAV files.

SimpLoop was also designed for live, "on the fly" looping, and could almost be considered "old-school" now, as it draws inspiration from hardware guitar looping pedals that started becoming popular in the early 2000's. As a live looping "veteran" myself, I wanted to create a looper that included some of my favourite hardware pedal features, plus a few things I wished that those pedals had back in the day!

As well as basic looping functionality with a 60 second maximum loop time, SimpLoop includes reverse and half-speed toggles, and a multiply function that doubles the current loop length. For example, you could record a one-bar rhythmic loop, then tap Multiply twice to create a four-bar loop made up of 4 repeats of your original recording.

Additional features include an auto-record option, variable record fade time for seamless loops (great for creating drones!) as well as different mode settings to determine how the loop, stop and clear commands work.

For maximum hands-free looping enjoyment, I recommend using SimpLoop with some kind of MIDI controller that can send MIDI CCs via buttons / switches or knobs / expression pedal inputs.

### 4/5 — Kleiner interessanter AuV3 Looper mit abstrichen

*2026-07-16*

It would be so nice if only you could reload the recorded loops into SimpLoop again, Rob. And when the playhead appeared as a line that you could pause and resume playback and move that playhead line through the loop with your finger. That would make SimpLoop more interesting.

### 2/5 — Midi mapping

*2026-04-14*

Doesn’t allow midi mapping on Logic Pro. Otherwise would of been amazing

### 1/5 — Missing the mark!

*2026-02-15*

Yes, it is simple to loop, but it is missing basic elements of being able to quantize, specify how many measures to record, and there is no graphic to see the measures recorded in the loop.

### 5/5 — Great simple looper!

*2026-01-02*

Rob, first of all - thanks for all the amazing plugs - you’re amazing and I love their style and the commitment to low cpu usage; it’s a blessing when on iPhone.

Please do consider the other review as well as mine — a way of syncing to a specific tempo-controlled timeline would be huge; I understand that it wasn’t as you envisioned this looper to work, but many of us sort of really NEED this feature of a looper in order to take it beyond the “musical toy realm”. I’d like a way to trigger recording and transitioning to the looping that can be quantized to a specified number of beats / measurements etc.

Whilst I can already do this by including mozaic on the setup and programming the “loop sequencer” there to send the right CCs to SimpLoop when needed, I’d prefer to have the entire functionality included in this simple looper.

Thanks for considering it !! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

### 5/5 — Simple it is

*2025-12-23*

A very easy and simple looper that takes1% of cpu in AUM
I just wish it had an option to sync start and stop to host.

## Frequently asked questions about SimpLoop

### What is SimpLoop?

SimpLoop is an audio effect plugin designed for live looping. It can be used standalone or within AU-compatible hosts like Logic Pro and GarageBand, offering a simple yet dynamic looping experience inspired by hardware pedals.

### How does SimpLoop's simplicity work?

SimpLoop can be configured for one-button operation (record, play, stop/clear) or expanded with MIDI control for up to six functions and two expression controllers, allowing for a highly dynamic live setup.

### What features does SimpLoop NOT have?

SimpLoop does not include tempo sync, multiple synced loop tracks, A/B sections, undo functionality, or audio file importing. It also does not remember recorded loops between sessions.

### Can I export my loops from SimpLoop?

Yes, you can export your recorded loops as .WAV files. This allows you to save and use your creations outside of the SimpLoop plugin.

### What are the additional looping features in SimpLoop?

SimpLoop includes reverse and half-speed toggles, and a multiply function that doubles the current loop length. It also features an auto-record option and variable record fade time for seamless loops.

### Is SimpLoop suitable for beginners?

Yes, SimpLoop was designed with beginners in mind, offering a compact and basic looper that is easy to get started with. Its straightforward interface makes it accessible for those new to audio looping.

### What devices is SimpLoop compatible with?

SimpLoop is available for Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iPod. It functions as an AUv3 plugin, meaning it can be integrated into compatible music production applications on these devices.

### How often is SimpLoop updated?

The latest version of SimpLoop is 1.1.1, which was last updated on January 9, 2026. This indicates a recent update, suggesting ongoing support and development from the developer.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.1.1 — 2026-01-09

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A POTENTIAL BREAKING CHANGE FOR THOSE USING MIDI CC# COMMANDS

SimpLoop now requires that you send a CC value greater than 63 to fire the command. In most cases, I suspect people will be sending 127, so all good. However, if for some reason you were sending 0, or anything less than 63, the command will no longer fire, so you need to change your CC value.

Really sorry if that's an issue for you, but I needed to make the change to resolve some problems for users with more complex MIDI setups.

### 1.1.0 — 2025-12-20

Added support for exporting recorded loops as .WAV files.

### 1.0.3 — 2025-12-14

Fix for SimpLoop not appearing as a MIDI target destination in AU host apps.

Unfortunately, this fix may break exisiting projects, so you will need to re-add the SimpLoop plugin. Sorry about that.

### 1.0.2 — 2025-12-12

No release notes.
