## What is Sine?

Most people are told perfect pitch is you are born with. It is not. It is a skill, and like any skill it comes from short, honest practice. Sine is that practice, made pleasant enough that you keep coming back.

HEAR IT. NAME IT. KNOW IT.
A note plays. You pick the key. There is no reference note and nothing to compare against, so every answer has to come from your own ear. Between questions a wash of sound clears the last note away, which is the part every other trainer skips.

ONE NOTE AT A TIME
You start with two notes that sit far apart, then add one more, then one more. The white keys, then the black keys, then the chords that carry most songs. Every level is short, and you pass it when you are ready, not on a schedule.

A COACH WHO SAYS LITTLE
Sine is a ring-tailed lemur who listens with you. It notices a run of five, a note that used to slip, a slow answer that was still right. It never scolds. Your streak forgives a missed day, because life has those.

INTERACTIVE GAMES FOR YOUR EAR
Sine Duel races you to a note, or races a friend across the same phone. Defuse plays a run of notes and you tap it back before the fuse burns down. Tune-up plays a note a few hertz off and asks flat, sharp, or in tune. We add more and more games to our library weekly!

EVERY ANSWER, KEPT
Stats by note and by chord, the note you confuse each one with, and a shelf of badges for what you have done.

ENCORE
We have a generous free-tier, but if you'd like to support our growing team, Encore unlocks everything now and later. Monthly at $1.99, or yearly at $29.99 with the first 7 days free. Prices vary by country. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and can be managed in your App Store account settings.

### 5/5 — Sine is awesome!

*2026-10-09*

I’ve been using this app for about two days and it is very user friendly and super fun. The activities are engaging and I would highly recommended it to people who are trying to learn how to detect music notes. Overall Sine is a great app and is super underrated!

### 5/5 — Dev team awesome

*2026-10-08*

Had a bug, contacted team, they were super friendly and cooperative (and had it fixed easily)

it just needs more free courses because I’m already almost finished with it 😔

Would recommend to friends tbh

**Developer response:** ❤️ We'll consider giving more free courses - there are some more in the library if you haven't caught those yet. If not, we'll be adding more down the line in the near future! Thank you for the support and kind words!

### 5/5 — Good App, developer listens

*2026-10-02*

The developer is very considerate and the app is really good for learning and improving pitch identification. The price is fair too for what it offers.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the adjusted feedback and review and we're glad we are hitting your marks 🫶

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.8.1 — 2026-10-10

Tune-up is a shop now. Run Sine’s tuning shop shift by shift: customers bring their instruments, you tune them by ear, and the day’s takings decide whether the shop stays open. Between shifts Otto’s van pulls up with tools and odds and ends to buy, regulars come back with their stories, and what you earn buys your way into bigger shops. Every run unlocks instruments, customers and radio stations for the next.

A new sound engine. Notes, chords and the band’s parts are made on a thread of their own, so the keys answer faster and nothing stutters while the music plays. Brass instruments play in tune.

Faster on every phone. Scenes are drawn in a new way that asks far less of the phone, so changing screens and opening a game is quicker, most of all on older phones. A phone that still struggles gets a Lighter graphics setting under Performance, and the app turns it on by itself when it sees the need.

Fixes. The wardrobe no longer flickers on iPhone, and the app now tells us when something goes wrong, so it gets fixed sooner.

### 0.7.1 — 2026-10-09

Sine Duel, rebuilt.

There are five Sines to beat, each in a place of its own with its own music and sounds: a pillow fort, a rooftop court, a night highway, a colosseum and a throne in a storm. A stronger Sine names the note quicker and lasts longer, so the Legend is a long pull. Beat one and the whole place lights up.

Also new
• The wardrobe is a room of its own: a dressing room with its own music, where Sine can try anything on before you unlock it. Mortarboard is now called Professor.
• Three new Quick Practice rooms: the Seaside, which opens after 40 runs, and with Encore, the Aurora Cabin and the Reef.
• The trophy case has a page of its own on Stats, and a seventh trophy: Lightning, for 200 Quick Practices. It wins Sine the Thunder outfit.
• Reduce motion, in Settings: Sine and the scenes hold still, text appears at once, and games use lighter effects.

Better
• Buttons keep their labels on one line on smaller phones.

### 0.7.0 — 2026-10-08

Out of Tune, the band edition

A school band plays a tune, and one player is out of tune. Can you hear who?

New
• Out of Tune, the band game. Hold a player to hear them on their own, then call out the one who sounds off.
• Five maps, each with its own way to go out of tune: the practice field (find the one), Friday night lights (sharp or flat), the parade (a player who drifts), band camp (two out at once) and contest day (in parts, rated on the last level).
• Forty-four levels and thirty tunes, from Aura Lee to Pachelbel's Canon.
• Twelve recorded instruments in the band: flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, alto sax, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, bells and xylophone. With Encore, any of them can be Sine's instrument across the app.
• Band outfits: Sine's marching uniform at six stars, then drum major, letterman jacket, grand marshal, band camp and concert black for each map you finish.
• A trophy case on Stats. The hardest thing in each game wins a trophy, and every trophy wins Sine an outfit nobody can buy.

Better
• Out of Tune leads the Games tab.
• The Sine score is a banner on Stats, with a calmer history.
• Starting a lesson ticks the day's lesson box.
• Every instrument sits in one grid, the recorded ones alongside piano, synth, guitar and cello.

### 0.6.0 — 2026-10-05

Quick Practice, in a room of your own
Practise in the attic, the greenhouse or the laundromat, each with its own music that Sine plays along to. The attic is open from the start; the other two open as you keep practising. Every drill pits a note against the ones you mix it up with, and the summary leads with what improved.

A faster first open
Meet Sine, pick what you want from it, try three notes by ear, and land on the course map ready to start.

Your Sine score remembers you
Come back to the test and it picks up from your last result, so you can see how far your ear has moved.

A Sine on every unit
Each unit you reach on the map has Sine sitting on it, dressed for the place.

Fixes
Lessons finish cleanly at the end of a run, and feedback now goes to hello@learnsine.com.

### 0.5.0 — 2026-09-29

Rivals
Battle another player's recorded run, note for note, across three stages. Win to raise your rating and climb the weekly leaderboard. There's also a daily rival that everyone plays.

Ochoko
A new game on a veranda under a full moon. A cup lifts on the beat and a chime sounds: is it the note shown? Five levels, each with its own song.
Stargazer
Now charts sixteen constellations, ending with four-note seventh chords.

Quick Practice
Now built from your stats. It finds the notes you miss most, shows what you hear them as, and drills just those.

Also new
A redesigned games library, with Rivals on the main menu
A news bell on the main menu for what's arrived
New frames for the top ranks in Sine Duel and Defuse
Encore costs less, and there's a one-time Lifetime option
