### 4/5 — Love it, but here’s the problem

*2022-09-02, version 35.0.0*

The one thing that I love about this is the story aspect and lore given to the game, but here are some problems with it: when you have to go to a specific grimnoire, then they don’t load it immediately or it begins to crash on you. Whenever you try to log back into any old account that you have, then they expect you to remember everything from that old account even if you don’t have The memory span of that old account, they should also provide a link to the website, but I don’t think that the website will be able to help with retrieving any information that you have since they only require you to contact support via email. so long story short, I like it but there are some problems that need to be addressed when it comes to retrieving information with all the counts and still some bugs that need to be fixed with grimores

### 4/5 — “app”?

*2021-12-13, version 22.1.0*

It’s been my first few hours in this game and I’ve been sent to write a review after pulling banner’s featured characters with first try. With the atmosphere that captivated me from the start (I even kept listening to title screen music for many minutes) and such generosity, naturally I should give a positive review. I mean I still have not hit the paywall. But the truth is, I did hit another wall already. And that’s maker’s wall... .Firstly with auto-friend-join system that makes it totally unnecessary to touch the screen for anything other than “next” button and the other is those Legendary gears I was gifted with first few missions The game couldn’t kill my initial experience and enthusiasm to improve more... . I mean even if there are places that I need to do the battle alone, at the start, it would’ve been much nicer to taste improvement rather than being carried by the game. I hope things exceed my current understanding and for that, I don’t hesitate to give the “app” 4 stars since it definitely has a catching atmosphere.

### 3/5 — Great aesthetic, but not PvP friendly

*2020-08-12, version 2.2.0*

I’m relatively new playing this game and I’ve gone decently far in it. There’s good tips on the Internet on how to play it and optimize your gameplay. I love how the game looks. Regardless of that, recently I’ve been observing that the PvP matchmaking is not fair at all.

Normally you would understand that the matchmaking would be based on the total power points of the guild’s members. But I dare say that it’s mostly on the wins and losses. You could be doing ok and all of a sudden you’re paired up with a guild with twice or even five times your guild’s power and even more members. Basically it’s an instantaneous loss!

There’s more points I would like to focus on, but this one is the most important, at least for me.

### 3/5 — Almost Perfect

*2020-07-27, version 1.5.0*

The Good - The music is the best I’ve ever heard in any mobile game. I’ll definitely be listening to this a lot. The story is great along with the dark fantasy which is probably my favorite genre since I’ve played darkest dungeon.

The Bad - The Combat, once you start the game you do a purification that you tap and do combos to get more ap and exp. I thought that was the combat until I got the first mission then it turned into a half baked Unison League combat system but you can only use the weapons skill with no auto attacking with the whole sp system which isn’t that bad just makes a risk reward system that you could bring in all the rare weapons you got from rng but run out of sp on long boss battles or only bring low grade weapons that significantly less damage unless you upgrade them fully. The co-op battling is fine until by the time you refresh the page they’re all ready done with the mission they’re on.

### 4/5 — The story so far...

*2020-07-24, version 1.5.0*

Honestly, I’m very early in. I haven’t yet found anything in this game to separate it from the pack, gameplay-wise - it’s like many-many other mobile gaxha-type RPG games. They overload you with stuff, you auto all day, summon characters and weapons. Personally, I play these games hoping to find JUST ONE that hits all the right notes, and that I can hang my hat on. So far with this game, there is nothing there that makes it feel worthy of my hat (and I have several hats). That said - it’s VERY early in my adventure, and I do plan to see it through for some time still. The music, so far, has been great - that’s a bit of a standout - and I love the aesthetic. It’s too early to say this, also, but I have a feeling that the tone of the game might be right up my alley. Also, if you’re a fan of Nier, you’ll probably find some extra entertainment value. On the Nier note, the music is definitely in that vein, from my recollection.

I will return to update this once more time is spent upon the game!

### 3/5 — Great game; one horrible flaw.

*2020-07-23, version 1.5.0*

I’m not going to regurgitate all the positives for this game everyone’s already listed. Just going to say the one thing that bothers me enough to drop a 5-star game to a 3, is the fact you cannot play your account across multiple devices.

If you have it on your phone, but feel like playing on your tablet, you have to do a full Data Transfer ( rendering your phone’s game app unusable ), and on a fresh install on the tablet set your account back up. Going to sneak some time in at work? Redownload the 1.5gb game to your phone, do another Data Transfer, and set it back up.

That’s dumb, and the reason for the 3.

### 4/5 — Great game but lacks QoL

*2020-07-21, version 1.5.0*

I’ve been playing this game since launch everyday and for the most part it’s great. The combat is pretty simple but has a few nuances that keep it interesting, great and twisted story to keep you reading, and satisfying pvp when it works. However, in order to upgrade gear you have to wait for a certain time of day to enter the dungeons that provides the material to upgrade said gear which is makes leveling up gear a chore. Pvp is great when you are matchmaked with a guild of similar power but if your not, it’s twenty minutes of stomping out a less fortunate guild or getting stomped yourself. Besides these few gripes the rates are fair and progression is slow but solid if your f2p.

### 5/5 — Better then expected

*2020-07-19, version 1.5.0*

The eerie vibe parts of this game give off is very nice, and the GATCHA rates aren’t awful like some GATCHA games and it gives you plenty of opportunities to get the premium currency which is appreciated. It also has a good balance of explaining things, but also not holding your hand to much. Have to say from the bit I’ve played so far it’s pretty refreshing to be playing a mobile game with standards

### 3/5 — Honest Review

*2020-07-18, version 1.5.0*

Now I know when people read “Honest” when talking about a Review they expect one of two things. Either Bootlicking or a Dashed Hopes type message.

Now which one will this be, the second mostly... but not entirely.

Gameplay wise, this is going to be nothing new for anyone. It’s exactly as it seems in the screenshots. Which you could say is to its benefit, no lies or false promises. Either you like it or not.

That said, what Will captivate you is the Art and Tragic Dark Fantasy narrative it tries to sow. And it does not disappoint; unlike other Dark Fantasy apps which focus on the story or just the fan service. It seems as though the developers are leaning toward a more narrative focused approach.

The thing that Dark Fantasy does right is that it makes itself true to the setting with a mix of Erie aesthetics, Wondrous music, and Beautiful tragedies.

Given that I have only just started and judging by first impressions, I will likely update this review later on.

My only complaint, it would help if the gameplay was more engaging. I get that this is a mobile game, but sometimes, in-fact often, a 1 minute mission isn’t going to be as interesting as one that has more time and thought put into it outside the narrative.

After all the best books leave you wanting to turn the page only to realize you need to rest. Not books that you skip through in order to get to the good part.

### 5/5 — Another Yoko Taro Masterpiece

*2020-07-13, version 1.1.1*

This game has the main writer and composers from Nier. Thus you already have great experience and they went all out. The gameplay is simplistic and that’s what makes it addicting. The soundtrack is very orchestral and it gives it this lingering darkness feel. The characters are broken versions of the Grimm brothers tales of the characters that have had the dark aspect of them reved up to be so much more. Great designs that lean in on fan service while also not feeling like fan service at the same time. It’s a great game and honestly I hope it lasts

### 5/5 — Enjoyable, Simply Enjoyable.

*2020-07-13, version 1.1.1*

I’ve been around the Gacha market for a while and have come and gone from them a lot, but my first few hours of this game have been a delight. I feel bad for the characters, which is delightful considering the games pedigree. It’s a twisted little world that makes me very curious of the tales it tells, so I’m going to stick with this for a while and enjoy it’s world. 10/10 would save my author again.

### 5/5 — Yoko Taro was here

*2020-07-11, version 1.1.1*

SINoALICE feels like a Yoko Taro game - dark stories, flawed and broken characters, gorgeous art that leans on fan service, collectible lore in the form of weapon stories. It reminds me with a gleeful vengeance that Neir, at one point, was going to be about fairy tales coming to life, and that the groundwork goes back years. Even the gatcha element doesn’t feel infuriating here - each new class, weapon, and nightmare is more lore to unlock, and the leveling system rarely leaves you feeling like a repeat draw is a bad thing. Coupled with generous amounts of in game currency and a mini game to reload stamina (and generous tickets to keep playing it) makes it worthwhile to play and keep playing.
The combat, sadly, is stale, a Rock Paper Scissors affair you can auto through or glaze over. It’s the same as half a dozen other cell games before it, though guild battles offer a chance to strategize and reward careful gear selection. It doesn’t say much that there’s an auto feature to skip fights- the game seems to know that you aren’t here for that. A pity, given that the battles are the only gameplay. But it is functional and holds up the story well - a grim story about endless bloodshed suits the style.
I’d easily recommend this to anyone who enjoyed Drakengard or Neir.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Great game terrible support

*2022-10-25, version 37.0.0*

I personally loved this game and sank many hours into it as I was out and about. The issue with this game is its support system as I was able to transfer my account from one phone to another via a link to my Apple ID. But when I just upgraded my phone this most recent time the game refused to connect to my Apple ID to transfer my account and when I went through the account recovery system they demanded that I remember all the items, characters, and currency I had as well as other things. Since I don’t have photographic memory I provided the best info I could and they did not allow me to recover my account.

### 1/5 — Boring and Predatory End Game

*2021-09-12, version 17.0.1*

Seriously, don’t bother spending a single dime on this game. The gameplay is repetitive, simple, and boring and cannot possibly justify the amount of spending you would need to do in order to maintain a position in a high tier guild. The PvP is novel for the first few months, however, it requires a daily 20 minute commitment at your desired scheduled time. Beyond that ,at a certain level of PvP you can find yourself in an odd position where you cannot have proper competition because your guild has literally spent a collective estimate of $100k USD and so no one will or can fight against you. You are effectively spending money not to play the game in this situation.

### 1/5 — Deceptive monetization

*2020-08-26, version 2.3.0*

SINoALICE is a beautiful game by Yoko Taro that I’d love to enjoy. The music is fantastic and the atmosphere is excellent.

That said, the presentation of the microtransactions is deceptive, with some “step” banners implying that the featured product is guaranteed in 5 attempts … but if you dig into (optional) menus, you find that “featured” is a term that means “The item that gives the character you want, but also two or so other ‘booby prizes’.” A casual player who clicks through can easily believe that the character they’re hoping to acquire is guaranteed, and be let down.

The information is portrayed in such a way that it is either deliberately deceptive, and therefore predatory, or the result of negligent failure to communicate expected results to the player.

Furthermore, the rates on the game’s gacha are abysmal, putting other competing games to shame. The overall SSR rate is 3%, but many of the results in the SSR pool are just simple weapons, diluting the results many players care about exclusively — new characters and weapons — to a fraction of that value.

I’d like to enjoy SINoALICE — but the evidence shows that it’s the latest, brutal step in a line of predatory gacha games.

### 1/5 — Saddened

*2020-08-04, version 1.5.0*

I had such high hopes for this game since I’ve heard nothing but good about the Japanese version of this, but the disparity between the selfish servers and the Japanese ones are... disappointing to say the least. I’ve heard people rave about how this game is extremely chill and easily playable as an f2p in Japan, but the English version is built for whales. The events are PILED on top of each other, with no break in-between, and you’re either forced to choose which one to participate in or pay to play. Started a guild after encountering a few dead guilds and I’m noticing that there’s no room for casual, f2p players after you reach B rank, either spend the cash to stay afloat, or drown.

### 1/5 — Dismay.

*2020-07-18, version 1.5.0*

I would love to give this game a glowing review. Except, after las than a week the game is unplayable. I am using the newest model iPhone, on the most up to date iOS, while playing I’m constantly stuck in losing screens, without the game actually loading any missions. No story/events or otherwise will load for me, I have a constant loading screen. When trying to reset either the game or my phone, none of the trouble shooting options would work. So I tried the old tried and true, delete and redownload as maybe one of my game packets was corrupted and it needed to be downloaded correctly again. When I did this, my entire account was destroyed. Using my account ID I still cannot log in because it is requesting a password, that I was never asked to make. I have emailed customer service and have yet to hear back.

I guess we shall see how it goes from there.

### 1/5 — Worst customer service I have ever had to deal with!

*2020-07-16, version 1.4.0*

Lost my account 12 days ago went to their website and answered the questions to get it back, waited 7 days for a response only for them to say they needed even more information like the amount of medals I had when I lost the account and what my sub weapon sets were, who remembers that after they get off for the day let alone seven days after being on? Still I answered the questions I could and even sent screenshots of past purchases I had made. Now it’s been another 5 days haven’t heard a word and still not able to play :(

### 1/5 — Strict times are nearly worse than the gacha

*2020-07-09, version 1.1.1*

Don’t let Yoko Taro name drop fool you into wasting your time. This is a generic gacha, where you hit the paywall within a day or two, and without serious whaling you’ll be unable to make meaningful progress for weeks or months of incredibly boring grinding, made worse by the fact that Auto/skip tickets deprive you of class mastery points. I don’t mind paying if the game is fun/rewarding, but the return on investment here is very small.

Another issue is the colosseum only happens once a day, requires a huge time investment and is unbalanced. Also, dungeons for upgrade items are only available for 30 mins a few times a day, further halting progress if you happen to be working/sleeping/doing anything else.

Despite pruning my friend/guild list daily, the drop off rate for this game is extremely high... it probably won’t be around long. I got sucked in by the art, music, and Yoko Taro, but Nier this is not. It’s the same as every other gacha with a fresh coat of paint.

### 1/5 — More hype then it deserves

*2020-07-05, version 1.0.4*

The game got so much attention from every mobile gaming youtuber. I gave it a try cuz it LOOKED good. And thats the thing. It only looks good. The art is the best part of the game and gets 10/10 from me. Gameplay is simple and boring. Which i wouldnt mind if upgrading characters or weapons unlocked some kind of ability or anything else other then just stats. I dont like games with just stats nor do i like games with a element system. And the story is supposedly good according to others but is non existent. Like the story before each battle is a couple of lines of the character saying things like “i want to kill. I want to kill so badly. Kill kill kill kill kill kill kill” youd probably like the game if your expectations are much lower. So let me help by saying that the game is simple but also confusing

### 2/5 — Cool Game... For A Couple Hours

*2020-07-24, version 1.5.0*

Pros:
-Gorgeous Art
-Plenty of Progression and Freebies Without Feeling Forced To Make A Purchase

Now with that out of the way, unfortunately time to talk about the cons. Note, I played through most of the story desperately hoping it would get better.
-First, the story is pretty non-existent outside of the main premise “character must kill to revive their author” with a couple minor changes between the characters. After the first 3 character stories and seeing how it repeated for each character, I found myself just putting it on auto and clicking through screens skimming the repetitive story just to get through it.
-Second, the combat is painfully boring until late-late in the game and high PvP. You never really have to take it off auto, and if you do, it’s about as much fun as it is on auto.
After other gachas and rpgs like Epic7 and Tales of Crestoria; SINoALICE was sadly a big letdown.

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2020-07-17, version 1.4.0*

This is a really cool game that I can not recommend at all. Artwork is well done, music and story are great. However, the game does not work properly for me. I do not receive the items that drop consistently. In both story and event encounters upgrade materials, etc are supposed to be earned. Sometimes the system will work fine and the drops will be in the present box as they should be. But more often they do not appear in the present box and my AP (points required for encounters) is lost and wasted. Not to mention my time.
I contacted the developer about this 5 days ago and have received no reply or assistance. Invest your time and money in this game with caution. There is no support and in my experience the game is broken.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great Dark Fantasy RPG particularly for Women

*2022-06-03, version 31.0.0*

Beautiful art and interesting warped story. I love dark fairy tales done in the way Japan does them. Thank you character artist and thank you Yoko Taro. I can’t wait to unlock more classes and more characters and art. I have been admiring the designs for years back when it wasn’t available globally. Very glad to have the chance to play it now and look at the beautiful L2D characters up close. Design wise it feels a lot like Odin Sphere and other Vanillaware games. Gameplay feels a lot like Granblue, which I also love. I think this style of game, with dark fairy tale content is particularly appealing to women, so please give it a try, and don’t forget to do the first Grimoire roll multiple times until you get what you want! (Come to me, Cleric Alice!)

### 5/5 — amazing game :DD

*2022-05-15, version 30.2.0*

the thing that dragged me into this game was the kakegurui event and my online mother!! (basically my online friend who i see as a mother figure)
the game is overall very good and i love the characters and their stories!!! but the only flaw is the difficulty of each level :(
i understand that as you reach higher levels the difficulties increase but that’s the reason i’m starting to play this game less and less :(

i’m going to still rate this 5 stars tho because i’m probably just dumb and don’t know how to beat the levels!! :D

### 5/5 — First Impressions

*2021-04-27, version 10.2.0*

Just started today and the story is very original and immersive even if the gameplay is the same typical rpg card game you find anywhere. It’s been bug free so far so that’s a plus compared to many I’ve had the misfortune of playing. All in all if you want to enjoy an amazing narrative game you should definitely check this game out.

### 5/5 — Beautifully designed game

*2021-02-05, version 7.1.0*

I love this game and ive only been playing for about 13 days . Its very pretty and interesting . I sit on the edge of my , lets be honest here , bed while playing because i cant wait to find out more of the characters stories . The only thing i will say is that its a little bit too hard to get a new ‘class’ but its fun to try and the anticipation is great . Keep up the great work Devs .

### 5/5 — Fantastic game

*2020-08-31, version 2.4.0*

This is really one of my most favorite mobile games right now and enhanced by the nier event since I just love everything from nier to automata and during this event I saw that many things were grimoir locked and stuff like that and well it made me realize that if you want to even get for example a 10x grimoir and still like that you’ll have to save up a ton of gems at the beginning you got gems at a decent pace and it really felt rewarding I just wish there were other ways to get gems since rn the only real way to get gems is to join the colloseum but you only get gems at certain days and the events just go by without really getting a chance and I know it’s a free game so you have to incentivize buying gems but I just wish there were more ways to obtain a good amount of gems to participate in these awesome events and things like that and I’d really love to see some new ways to earn gems for free to make it that much more rewarding and awesome to get an event character from a grimoir and also I wish the data transfer wasn’t at the beginning since I just lost my account because of it and it’s super frustrating

### 5/5 — I really enjoy it

*2020-08-14, version 2.2.0*

I really like the game so far. The story is interesting, the characters I’ve met seem interesting. It’s actually really fair with getting rare items and such, and it’s not near impossible to get the currency that gives you stuff. All and all if you like darker stories, and gacha games that are actually fair and don’t force you to pay money to get anything good. This is your game I highly recommend it, I love the story so far ten out of ten lol.

### 5/5 — Good, with a caveat

*2020-08-01, version 1.5.0*

Look. I like the lore, writing, story, all that. But the actual gameplay is just the same as a bunch of the other Gacha games I’ve played. But, I don’t mind. When I get tired of gameplay, I can just watch it and read the stuff instead of fully play. I’m still giving it an overall 5, as the issues I have are minor in comparison to the main positive of the story.

### 5/5 — Delightfully, Deliciously Dark

*2020-07-25, version 1.5.0*

The moment I was greeted by our two hosts; those puppets that just want to speed things along but don’t mind some storytelling, I knew I was in for a treat.
This game, while definitely a gacha game, brings it’s own unique flair to the table, and the art style, characters, and lore make it worth keeping on your mobile device.
While the combat is pretty standard fare, it’s nothing bad by any means, and if it’s not your bag, then the wonderfully woeful world should be more than enough to keep you there!

### 5/5 — Hahaha, amazing

*2020-07-22, version 1.5.0*

This freakin' game! Hahaha, it's so funny, a bunch of twists on... fairy tales? Or those old stories like Cinderella and Snow White. It's made by the crazy dude that made Nier: Automata so that's always a good sign. Also, I got an SR roll and the game is like "Yo, you got an SR, wanna review us?" And maaaaan, they got me there, hahaha, had to do one. Enjoying the game a lot, from what I've seen so far you roll for weapons and jobs for your characters, but you start with almost all of the characters right from the start, and a guide actually mentioned "there are no character tier list, all the characters are the best character, except your favorite, that one is even better" or something like that. So it's a very enjoyable game to just have on the side running while you go about with your day. Not too stressful like others where you gotta have the newest meta character every week or you might as well uninstall.

### 5/5 — Great Storytelling/Acoustic Experience

*2020-07-20, version 1.5.0*

It's rare to see such a well crafted story nowadays, with the growing number of Gacha games skipping out almost entirely on Storytelling.

This is a rather sober take on the Gacha experience, where even the actual act of summoning is done in an interesting way, that shows you the devs understand their audience.

Just try it out, filesize isn't big and the story starts off nicely. If you're here for the summons, we'll that's the first thing you get to do! No immediate dragged out tutorial, no nonsense, masterfully done! 👏💯
