When I first played, I was taken by the picture book art style, endearing story and simple & familiar gameplay. That is not say that it is an easy game, as I also remember being so stuck on a level that I eventually gave up on the entire game. Ever since, I've had plenty of opportunities to remove the app from my phone, but something always told me this one's a keeper. Recently, I decided to give it another go to see what it was that made me keep it for this long, and I was instantly reminded. It was the sounds, the creatures, the colours; everything about it just meshed together without fault. I've played plenty of games made by many different shades of developers, and I would consider Sir Benfro's Brilliant Balloon as a rare specimen that shows me the industry has what it takes to help video games mature into a highly regarded form of art and entertainment in its own right.
