Leider kann man den Chatverlauf nicht löschen. Sogar nach löschen und wieder installieren der App ist der Verlauf wieder da. Damit ist die App für mich nicht benutzbar. Sehr schade! Не сказать, что большая проблема, bo po polsku mówimy, но всё же… ### 4/5 — Best XMPP client on iOS by far *2023-07-13, version 7.3.3* In some sense this application deserves five stars… it is sooooo close to being perfect for my use case. It works pretty well, it looks nice enough, it’s stable, and it even supports OMEMO very well. Check, check, check! What I currently don’t like about Siskin is the situation with push notifications. I think it’d be perfectly fine for an unencrypted chat, but it’s not very friendly with OMEMO. Because the messages are encrypted, the content of the message is not shown in the push notification… I understand why this is, but it makes the app just so much worse to use. I believe there’s a XEP for handling encrypted push notifications that could solve this issue, but as far as I know it’s just a draft and unimplemented. I can’t really demand much as it’s a free app and all, but I will say this is the last thing I really want before I’m comfortable just saying the xmpp experience on iOS is solid. I really hope Tigase can make it happen — it would be awesome. The other nitpick I have is somewhat related to push notifications. When the app is in the background and you receive a bunch of (possibly blank notifications) when you launch the app to check your messages / reply it can take a while for it to log in and pull all of the messages from the server. Just a few seconds, but it’s a bit inconvenient at times. I’m not sure if there’s an easy fix for that, though. Maybe something can be hacked together with the push notifications, or maybe this fetch can somehow look a little smoother in the UI… I’m not too sure. This is small potatoes compared to the other issue, though. Thanks for the great app. I really hope it just gets that last little bit of polish that will make it perfect for me so I can feel comfortable switching not just myself but also friends over to XMPP in the future. ### 3/5 — Timer not working during voice call *2023-05-19* Thank you for providing this program. A few points: the timer is not shown during a voice call, and the fact that the text page is very poor in terms of interface, and I think it is beautiful, similar to programs like WhatsApp. ### 2/5 — Sends messages but does not allow account management *2023-05-09, version 7.3.3* As a XMPP server administrator you would want your users to be able to change their passwords. This program does not appear to let them do that. There are also glitches in the UI, like when you tap and hold a message to copy it, the screen flickers on and off. ### 3/5 — Restarted my phone and the app completely reset *2023-05-03, version 7.3.3* It’s fine, self-hosted xmpp is a bit of a mad house, and the developers are doing gods work. However be warned that after using this app for the past year, you should be prepared for: - Missing calls: I miss calls all the time. Sometime the app rings after the caller has been sent to voicemail or sometimes it never rings. When you answer, the integration to the iPhone dialler app doesn’t hand over well - No DTMF: if you call any service that needs you to press a number to select an option, this app doesn’t do it. There’s DTMF generators online you’ll have to hold the phone to a speaker to use. - Message formatting issues: long press on messages, and just loading conversations yields inconsistent formatting issues. And the most recent - I restarted my phone and the app just completely reset. I’m greeted with the startup/welcome screen and need to setup all my accounts again. Self hosted xmpp is not for the feint of heart. It does support video calls which is nice. I appreciate the dev for their time and effort in providing a free, privacy respecting app but it’s shortcomings make it a no go for daily use. ### 2/5 — Bad sound in iphone13 *2023-01-21, version 7.3.2* All my voice messages (the ones i send) are of poor audio quality, to silent and far to much compression. My brother has stopped using it because he was getting spammed. I tried logging into those accounts with another client but the response was that the accounts had not been activated. When I looked at my account settings and touched my account name, the app crashed. I tried again and again but it does this every time with both accounts. I thought I'd try XMPP having watched a video about how easy it is supposed to be! Since I can see the logs of the server, this app doesn't even try to connect. Crashes within a second. Why can’t anyone create a semi-decent XMPP IM app for iOS? It’s either Snikket, Siskin or Monal, and they all look as if they were developed in 2010. The first to create a decently working app that has a good UI, can totally sweep up the early adopters on iOS. ### 1/5 — Does not open on iPhone 8 iOS 13 *2021-12-05, version 7.0* Siskin does not open anymore after version 7.0 on my iPhone. When I click on it, the screen gets darker, I get to see a settings button on the bottom, and it just crashes after that. No messages or anything. Previously, I had downloaded the beta from the TestFlight app and it also would not open at all, except it would show me an error message and ask if I would like to send it to the developers, which I hope it worked. The interface might be a little dated, unpolished, and a bit buggy sometimes, but it’s probably the best iOS XMPP app you can find. Hasn’t been updated in a while though. Would like to see some more development on it. ### 5/5 — Decent alternative to Monal *2025-11-25, version 7.3.3* Monal has some issues that need fixing but it’s taking forever for the team to do it so I moved to Siskin and it’s pretty decent. Monal used to drain my battery a lot but no such problems with Siskin ### 5/5 — GREAT xmpp messenger! *2025-04-06, version 7.3.3* The styling is impressive and they have both dark and light mode automatically. They have easy user friendly (considering you’re into this stuff it’s user friendly) interface that is helpful if you’re stuck. They even have an in app way to join their support server. I would REALKY recommend this app since it’s really great and supports almost all you need with xmpp. Once you get the hang and feel of it it’s a great tool.
