### 3/5 — Kept rejecting my credit card?

*2022-09-29, version 10.7*

COULD NOT SEE WHY AND IT GAVE NO REASON?

### 3/5 — Needs work

*2022-06-08, version 10.5.4*

Adding tickets to Wallet doesn’t work: I get “Could not fetch Wallet-pass” every time I try. Also, there’s no option to pay with Apple Pay.

### 2/5 — Need a Swedish personal ID number

*2022-06-01, version 10.5.3*

I downloaded this app in the hope of being able to handle my ticket purchase, and downloading a copy of my ticket. Unfortunately this SJ train app does not accept American Visa or MasterCard. I was eventually able to buy the ticket by using the Capital One extension ENO on my laptop browser. It is a secure virtual credit card extension from Capital One bank . Once I purchase a ticket I tried downloading it on this app. Ticket not found. I tried joining the SJ Pro version of the app. You need a Swedish personal ID number. Contacted the chat of customer service. Waited over 2 hours. No response from their chat support. Very poor customer service

### 1/5 — Don’t use buy at the station

*2022-02-12, version 10.4.1*

Charges SEK 17 for bookings cheaper to buy at the station and quicker

### 1/5 — Only for Swedish residents

*2020-09-23, version 9.4.1*

The latest version requires confirmation of mobile number with a code that can only be sent to Swedish mobiles. Brilliant! This means that even with a Swedish ID number, a Swedish bank account, and a SJ Prio account with accumulated points, I can’t use the app, because I have a British phone number. And before you ask, non-residents can’t have a Swedish mobile contract. Airline apps work for everybody. Why discourage train travel?

### 4/5 — Easier than expected

*2020-03-14, version 9.1*

I was frightened that cancelling our tickets because of Denmark's border closure) would take a while. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be and if I get the money back in six business days it will be great. I have had previous dealings with you and the service is first class. Thanks.

### 3/5 — Good, but some persistent flaws

*2019-12-11, version 8.10*

Very clean and functional design. When booking a ticket on an SJ high-speed train you can seamlessly scroll through a plan of the carriages to pick your available seat. But this function isn’t available for sleeper trains or older locomotive-hauled intercity carriages.

Live rail times are easy to find, although it’s impossible to check the historic departure/arrival times of trains that finished their journey.

The app also gets confused when tracking overnight trains - if a train started its journey yesterday but hasn’t yet arrived, the traffic into page will show you today’s anticipated departure instead.

### 1/5 — Compared to Norwegian Rail, more like Amtrak...

*2019-09-17, version 8.7.1*

Norwegian Rail from Oslo to Bergen and back was excellent. Clean windows; the entire train was spotless and on time. Swedish Rail from Oslo to Stockholm was completely different. Engine trouble halfway, windows filthy (it looked as though we were locked in a heavy fog, yet it was clear. A few days later from Stockholm to Copenhagen was far worse. Keep in mind, all of our travel was “1st Class”. Windows filthy, very little accommodation for large suitcases, all of which would be fine if the train ran on time. A signal issue occurred at the halfway point, resulting in a three-hour delay, turning a five and one half hour trip into nearly nine hours. They announced, as we approached Malmo (just before crossing into Denmark, that Malmo would be the end of the line, requiring everyone to disembark to take a commuter rail train into Copenhagen. After everyone was lined up with all baggage retrieved from overheads and other storage areas, the order was countermanded. It resulted in all luggage semi-returned to storage, with aisles clogged with baggage. The train came into Copenhagen, after another forty-five minutes, at a remote track which was NOT in the main terminal, raining on the open track and platform area with the entire passenger group fleeing toward one five-passenger elevator to get to street level. Another quarter-mile hike was then required to get to a cab line in front of the main terminal. It made Amtrak look like the Japanese Bullet Train. It was truly Third World. Never again.

### 3/5 — Delayed trains

*2019-08-21, version 8.6.2*

Why when a train is delayed, is it not shown as an upcoming departure when looking at a station?

Really unhelpful for looking up the data

Why I can’t scroll back through recently departed trains either...

### 2/5 — Bad payment design feature

*2018-12-25, version 8.2.1*

Great app in general. But greatly disappointed about the design choice regarding setting up card payment. As a UK card holder I was unable to use letters while specifying my post code.
Swedish post codes only use numbers but if you are from a country using letters you wont be able to fill in your details using this app.

I solved it by typing my post code in a separate app, then copy/paste.

But very disappointing.
An app for traveling should be well prepared for tourism.

Happy to increase the rating once this has been solved!!

### 1/5 — Utloggad. Ny inloggning erbjuds ej.

*2018-12-14, version 8.2.1*

Appen utloggad. Till följd av ert mail ordnat nytt lösenord tidigare idag. Erbjuds ingen ny inloggningsmöjlighet i appen - får bara besked om att jag är utloggad. Trist!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Don’t use this to buy tickets

*2026-06-05, version 14.3*

I bought refundable tickets but they could not issue the refund. After some back and forth it turns out they sell tickets for other companies. That other company could not issue a refund to my credit card. They can only do a bank transfer. So I will have to pay my bank a 15 CAD fee to get my money back. I can’t believe they are allowed to sell refundable tickets that I had to pay extra for that they can not refund.

### 1/5 — Slow and has multiple stops

*2023-11-27, version 11.3.1*

I have booked two tickets for more than $200
For a fast night train
Unfortunately, it was so slow and it did stop multiple times
So frustrated, and disappointed.

### 1/5 — SJ Unreliable

*2023-10-25, version 11.2.3*

At least 2-3 times a week SJ is late, they have car issues or something is preventing them from being on time.
What’s worse is that the customer service is combative when trying find a resolution for failed trips which are the fault of SJ. For example: trains have maybe unplanned final stops (a few stops before their final destination) and told the passengers (including myself) that we needed to “sort out” the rest of our journey on our own and they wouldn’t compensate for that. Very poor experience.

### 1/5 — It’s for Swedes only.

*2023-10-19, version 11.2.3*

Tried to open account. It requires Swedish personal number.
Remove from USA and other App stores
Very annoying

### 1/5 — Impossible to use

*2023-08-14*

In Norway. Everything is very confused, but it seems like SJ have won a contract to run trains from Oslo to Tronshrimps, but the SJ app just comes up saying “route unavailable”. There is no separate app for SJ Nord on the App Store.

### 1/5 — Tried to change ticket/ cancel

*2023-06-21, version 11.2.1*

Terrible I have spent hours with no results and even went to the station central in StK.. you have eliminated people to people booth.. Shame on you .. we who are over 50/ 60 are still alive and need a humongous not some electrical wires AI .. no thank you ..

### 1/5 — Account could not be opened

*2022-06-20, version 10.6.1*

App promises a lot.

But if one cannot open an account … what, then, is the point?

### 1/5 — Train option was actually a bus.

*2022-06-12, version 10.5.4*

Doesn’t always tell you what options were there. I tried to book a train and it came back as a bus - but only after I paid. And this is very difficult with a baby

### 1/5 — Impossible to pay

*2022-05-07, version 10.5.2*

So the app works great, except for two critical flaws. The first is that it doesn’t let you use a foreign phone number. Why have this in the US App Store if you can’t have foreign phone numbers? The second flaw is that I can’t pay for a ticket. I’ve tried 4 US-issued credit cards and one Swedish-issued card. None worked. And for the US cards, my credit card companies said they didn’t even get the payment request so it wasn’t a matter of the cards getting declined. The SJ system didn’t even make the payment request. The other option is to use Swish to pay. Since you need a Swedish bank account, that’s not a viable payment option for most people outside Sweden. Would love to use the app if I could actually buy a ticket with it 😊

### 1/5 — Poor service

*2022-02-16, version 10.4.1*

Your entire train service is terrible. Constantly late, trains don’t turn up at all sometimes, and the frequency of trains on the main route to the North of Sweden is shocking.

Sack the boss.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — By far the best train app

*2024-09-15, version 12.1.6*

Amazing UI, simple and easy to use, and the graphic design is extremely good.

### 5/5 — Reliable and convenient App !

*2024-07-28, version 12.1.6*

Very reliable App for Swedish Trains and buses booking. Glad to use it regularly.

### 5/5 — Works for US Users

*2023-09-18, version 11.2.2*

At first like some others in US I thought I did need a personal ID number from Sweden. However, I reached out in the app chat and she was able to set me up with an account and emailed me a link to finish account creation. If you make your first booking on the website and click the button to remember or save the card you are using, you can also make purchases in the app as an American. I was also able to click the button to add a 2nd payment card later. I was not so lucky with the Volvo On Demand app.😢

### 5/5 — Very solid

*2023-06-09, version 11.2*

Easy to use and efficient

### 5/5 — A senior’s travel experience

*2023-05-28, version 11.1*

It took a few tried to learn the app but once that was done it has been super! So easy to plan or change a trip.

### 5/5 — Service delivery was excellent.

*2023-03-31, version 11.0*

The only problem we encountered was the amount of time before release of the next block of tickets. I was aware that this is outside SJ jurisdiction (and is not their fault at all) and is due to track work constraints however the tickets on the day we needed to travel were released 2 days before I was about to book a flight. That aside we had no complaints at all with the service provided in the First Class carriage. I recommend anyone contemplating travelling between Copenhagen and Stockholm (or vice versa) travel on the SJ train. In first Class free breakfast is provided if you travel before 0900 while tea and coffee making facilities are available in the 1st Class carriage anytime. Lunch can also be ordered (extra I think) or use the Bistro Carriage. The seats are really comfortable and there is plenty of room. The price - well I was very surprised as it was less than I expected! I have no hesitation in recommending travelling with SJ - plus lots of great scenery to see.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2022-07-08, version 10.6.1*

Easy to navigate for both arrivals and destinations with all stations.
Concise. Efficient.

### 5/5 — Makes Train Travel Even Easier and More Pleasant

*2019-06-16, version 8.6*

SJ have done a great job with this app. Booking and paying are a breeze. Travel mode is also very well done - it tells you how much time is left before having to board or get off.

I love Swedish trains and this app just makes the whole experience that much better.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2018-11-27, version 8.2*

Visited Sweden from the UK for a few days in Småland and travelled up from Copenhagen Airport. Bought our tickets before we arrived so they were all ready to go as soon as we got there. A pleasure to use. My only request would be for the Danish train operator Øresundståg to allow tickets to be added to Apple Wallet as only SJ AB allowed this at the time.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2017-12-02, version 6.7.2*

Get this if you are traveling in Sweden
