## What is Skene?

Skene is the social app for whatever you're into. "Skene" is Finnish slang for "the scene" — and that's exactly what the app shows you: who's heading out tonight, which spot has a group forming this weekend, and where the locals actually go.

Whether you're new in town, looking for a partner, or just want to stop texting six group chats to find someone to join, Skene puts your scene on one map — and one feed.

— WHAT YOU CAN DO —

• Open to your scene, live. The feed shows what's happening right now and this week: activities forming near you, plus quick status posts from the people and groups you follow. Filter by everyone, following, a specific group or just what's nearby, react with a tap, and jump into the comments. Your own plans for the day sit pinned at the top.

• See it on the map. Open the map to browse live activities around you. Tap a marker to see who's going, what they're up to, and join with one tap.

• Post a plan in a few taps. Pick a category, a place, a time, and who can see it — followers, a specific group, or everyone. Plan a multi-day trip with several stops, or just shout "going out in 30 min".

• Bring your own activity. Skene ships with climbing categories (bouldering, sport, trad, ice) out of the box, but anyone can add their own — running, cycling, skiing, paddling, board games, jam sessions, sauna nights, whatever your scene is. The app grows with the community.

• Find your people. Filter by activity, area and (where it makes sense) skill level. Browse profiles, follow others, and message anyone you've matched with.

• Real places, not just pins. Gyms, crags, trails, parks and venues are linked together so an activity at "Olhava" is the same Olhava everyone else sees. Add new places when you find them.

• Import routes and trails. Drop a GPX file from a watch, planner or guidebook app and Skene turns it into a place or trip you can share.

• Chat and discussion, built in. Every activity gets its own discussion thread that lives with the plan, message anyone you've matched with, and spin up group chats for your crew — no more half-dead WhatsApp threads from last spring.

— WHO IT'S FOR —

Skene started in the Finnish climbing scene and that's still where it's strongest, but it's built to work for any group activity. It's for:

• Anyone who wants to find people to do things with
• Locals organising sessions, trips and meet-ups
• Communities who want to know who's coming tonight
• Travellers landing in a new city looking for their scene
• Crews who want one place for their group's plans

— PRIVACY —

Your location is used only to show nearby activities and posts, and is shared only as an approximate area when you choose to post. We don't sell your data. Full privacy policy: https://skene.life/privacy

— FREE TO USE —

Skene is free. If you want to support development, there's an optional donate button in settings — no paywalls, no ads, no growth-hacked dark patterns.

Don't miss the scene. Download Skene and see what's happening near you.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2.4 — 2026-08-22

The map grows up in this one: basemaps are named layers you pick from a sheet, two of them are the Finnish terrain map you already know from paper, and one lays that map over aerial imagery so you can read the crag and the contours at once. Organizers can also move an activity to another place.

Map
- Added named map layers — Skene, Streets, Topo, Outdoor and Satellite — picked from a sheet at the bottom of the map.
- Added Maastokartat, Maanmittauslaitos' own map sheet, with the boulder, cliff and mire symbols drawn the way they have always been drawn.
- Added Terrain + satellite, the same sheet over aerial imagery, with the coverage adjustable from 5 % to 100 %.
- The two Finnish layers are offered while the map is over Finland and step aside elsewhere. Your choice is kept for when you come back.
- Added a north compass to the map header.
- Gathered the map's bottom controls — search, locate, layers, filters and list — into a single field.
- Improved the location marker, which now points the way you are facing.

Activities
- Added moving an activity to another place after it has been created.
A move that leaves confirmed participants behind splits the activity: the original stays put with them and its earliest joiner takes over as organizer, while you and everyone coming along get a new one. With nobody left behind, the activity keeps its id, discussion and share links.
- Added a prompt on every save asking whether to notify participants. Structural news — you were moved, you are now the organizer — is sent either way.
- Auto-generated activity names follow the new place. Titles you typed yourself are left alone.

Fixes
- Fixed sheet content sitting behind the keyboard on iOS, which could collapse a category picker or a post editor to nothing.
- Fixed a crash when the map's look changed with the pointer line drawn, and stopped that line from hiding under map pins afterwards.
- Fixed creating a hidden activity at a place notifying that place's followers — an audience the activity itself would have refused to show it to.
- Fixed leaving an activity leaving its chat behind in your conversation list.

### 1.2.3 — 2026-08-11

Fixes
 • Fixed notification toggles being invisible against card backgrounds.
 • Fixed notification settings silently turning pushes back on for people who had muted them.

### 1.2.2 — 2026-08-08

- Security fixes and updated core libraries
 - Map engine upgraded to a new version
 - Stability and crash-reporting improvements

### 1.2.1 — 2026-08-06

New:
• Business accounts: smoother onboarding — from business ID straight to
claiming your venue, and you can now create a new venue right from the
  claim screen
• The feed now tells you when filters are the reason it looks empty, with a
  one-tap way to clear them

Fixes:
• Display name changes no longer revert on the next app launch
• Invites from the activity edit sheet are now delivered even when nothing
  else was changed
• Forms no longer vanish behind the keyboard (poll creation, invites,
reports) and their buttons stay visible
• Forms now scroll even when dragging from a text field
• The feed's empty state no longer covers activities

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-06

Skene 1.2 introduces business accounts for climbing gyms and other venues!

• Gyms and venue operators can now claim their venue on the map, add opening hours, contact info and a logo, and post updates for their visitors. Create a business account at skene.life/business
• Place cards got a refresh: opening hours, venue info and latest posts now live in their own tabs
• Venue posts show up in your feed when you follow a place — and venue logos appear right on the map
• Smoother sign-in: submit your email and code with Enter
• Small fixes and polish
