### 4/5 — Great, but …

*2025-07-23*

I do find it amazing that this, and many other digital reading Apps, can’t seem to remember what page I last read or even what was the last issue I was reading! This is just simply laziness or indifference.

### 3/5 — Paper is better.

*2025-03-04*

You know why? If I set down a paper magazine it doesn’t automatically close itself and hide in the pile of magazines I’ve not yet read. Honestly, who programs this stuff? Have they never actually used this App?

### 4/5 — Great to have the digital version

*2018-12-26*

Since I read nearly everything on my iPad or phone, the digital version of this journal makes reading the it much more accessible. I can easily read it in bed with even with the lamp turned off.

I also appreciate the Reader view feature that turns an article into a single long page for scrolling.

The only most important feature missing for me is a highlighter. When I read non-fiction I always want to annotate what I'm reading for later review. It's great that the app allows for copying and pasting selected text, but a highlighter is also needed.

### 3/5 — Refund request

*2018-07-12*

I request you to refund for the Auto-Renewable Subscription, please.

### 5/5 — A necessary evil

*2017-08-27*

It's amazing that something like this is even necessary, and it is very much so as this country seems to be devolving into the Dark Ages. How can we have grown so much in the last two thousand years and now seem to be going back to many of the values and superstitions humanity overcame. Science is being devalued, an elite 1 percent of rich people are ruling and the middle class is shrinking, and religion that had evolved more into charitable organizations are now returning to authoritarian attacks on morals and taking over politics.
Skeptic Magazine is the antidote for all of that fighting the disease and blight of ignorance and providing a determined resistance to the realities of vaccination deniers, human global warming deniers, charlatans and hucksters, and so much more.
I had stacks of Skeptics going back years but now with their availability with a simple App I've replaced the stacks with a subscription and back issues on an iPad. I can now take my library with me wherever I go. Evolution is a good thing. Devolution is stupid.

### 5/5 — One of my favorite magazines

*2017-07-31, version 4.9.99*

I can't imagine not having access this intelligent magazine.

### 5/5 — Great read!

*2017-05-11, version 4.9.99*

I'm so glad I subscribe to Skeptic Mag. It's well worth it!

### 5/5 — Great Read!

*2017-01-13, version 4.9.99*

I love the way Skeptic challenges my preconceptions. It offers a wonderful look at commonly held beliefs from an alternative perspective.

### 5/5 — Great title

*2017-01-04*

App is basic and works.

### 4/5 — Pretty Stable, Great Content

*2017-01-01, version 4.9.99*

Some very dense articles, but well-researched. The interface is pretty good. I like the ability to purchase back issues. Just wish new issues were released more frequently.

### 4/5 — Great magazine

*2016-12-16*

My only complaint, and why it gets 4 stars is that I would like to see more articles per quarter. I understand, however, not wanting to dilute the quality and to be accurate with sourcing and bibliographic information. I highly recommend this for anyone who values reason first and foremost.

### 4/5 — Good

*2016-11-19, version 4.9.99*

So far, I like this app, my only complaint is that I'm unable to hold a word and get dictionary definitions. Change that, and I LOVE it.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2016-09-21*

There are gems among magazines, and this is one of them. With material for old and young like, it provides all you need to develop your critical thinking and learn new things. Highly recommended. Excellent app; never had any problems with it, both on my older iPad and on this one, an air 2.

### 4/5 — Always something neat

*2016-07-26, version 4.9.92*

I love Skeptic, and the lecture series at Caltech was a special treat when I could make it. The app is nice. Bookmarks and highlighting capability would be nicer.

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2016-07-25, version 4.9.92*

Timely and always interesting.

### 5/5 — Excellent magazine

*2016-06-03, version 4.9.92*

This is one of my favorite magazines. I look forward to each issue and usually read it cover to cover. The Skepdoc is my favorite columnist.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not what it was

*2025-11-11*

This magazine used to be a beacon for nuanced un-biased perspectives on scientific thinking about the world. Now it's just political anti-woke nonsense. The articles just blame the political left for all surrounding mistrust in our institutions without articulating the rights role which = bias. Shermer also let conservative authors write anti-abortion articles that aren't science based (which is the point of the publication). Sorry Shermer, but you have lost your way.

### 1/5 — Can’t access digital subscription

*2021-03-08*

I purchased a digital subscription a couple years ago through Apple, and it clearly shows in my list of Apple Subscriptions. Unfortunately, when I try to read the digital version on my iPad, all I get is stupid Pocket Magazine saying that I need to subscribe. What? I AM subscribed! Very annoying and if this not quickly resolved I will cancel!

### 1/5 — DO NOT SUBSCRIBE!

*2018-01-09, version 4.10.5*

DO NOT subscribe to “pocket mag”! Expensive frequent charges, and very difficult to unsubscribe. I was charged a fortune for my “trial”.

### 1/5 — Cancel sub doesn't work

*2017-08-24*

Tried cancelling my subscription a few times and it didn't say anything, either that it was canceled or not. Round came the renewal period and now i have to pay again for magazine i barely read because of the lackluster quality. Skeptical indeed.

### 1/5 — Still Crashes

*2016-03-14, version 4.9.92*

This app still crashes when I try to launch it. Fail.

### 1/5 — App Crashes

*2016-03-09, version 4.9.89*

I'd like to subscribe but the app crashes on my iPad.

### 1/5 — Unable to Open

*2016-03-09, version 4.9.89*

Installed app on iPad Pro and it crashes every time I try to open it. Rebooted iPad, but problem with app persists. Sigh.

### 1/5 — Broke

*2016-03-09, version 4.9.89*

App constantly crashes upon start up.

### 1/5 — Crashes...

*2016-03-09*

I hate to be 'that guy' but the app crashes on start up. Really want to read some skeptic!

### 1/5 — Awful

*2016-01-31*

This app does not work. No option to contact publisher of magazine that is purchased. No support when product stops working. Do not purchase magazines through this app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great

*2023-03-18*

Great!

### 5/5 — A skeptical resourse

*2022-03-02*

In a sea of unreflective and outright nonsense, a questioning voice to consider.

### 5/5 — The cure for the modern era

*2021-05-14*

I have always sought truthful, unbiased articles that tell the facts simply, wholly, and allow the reader to think critically. In today’s age of false claims, politicized facts, and skewed stories, finding sources like this are one in a million. Skeptic is that one in a million; whenever I need the unequivocal truth and an honest analysis, this is where I come.

### 5/5 — Finally, FACTS

*2020-08-16*

Refreshing to read sober analysis. What a gift to have science based critical analysis on a range of issues.

### 5/5 — Skeptic Magazine

*2020-07-06*

Great articles assessing the truth or falsehood of all kinds of theories and assertions, with the truth being the only guiding light. Articles you’ll find nowhere else.

### 5/5 — Skeptic is great, the app is not

*2020-01-06, version 6.0.2*

The reader mode on the Skeptic app is mediocre at best. It changes article formatting in confusing ways and has typos that are not present in the magazine. The app developer has not issued an update in over a year. Does this mean that they think the app is already perfect?

### 5/5 — Critical thought.

*2019-02-16*

Great thinking outside of the bubble.

### 5/5 — Should be part of regular education

*2018-05-20*

The education of a society should include technical knowledge of how to continue educating yourself and how not to be fooled by bad or misleading information. This magazine does just that. From articles of atheism, pseudo science, and myths to real scientific knowledge, Skeptic magazine helps me wade through the BS to arrive at reality.

### 5/5 — A beacon of hope

*2018-03-06*

For the six billion people who do not live in the USA the activities reported from there reflect a deeply irrational society riven by self interest dominating social responsibility. Commercial religion, anti science, murder, violence, voodoo economics, health quackery all seem to dominate.
The beacons of hope are this magazine, NASA, the FSM, and many science publications

### 5/5 — Great Magazine

*2017-09-14, version 4.9.99*

The magazine is great -- One of my very favorite. App makes my entire library available whenever and wherever I am. Just open my iPad.
