Raw screenshot in. Polished post out. Skimra takes the screenshot or screen recording you already have and makes it worth posting: a real device frame, a background that carries it, your branding, and the exact shape the feed wants. Everything renders on your device, and you never need an account. WHAT IT DOES Frame it. Drop your capture into a true to life frame: iPhone, MacBook, or a browser window. Put several on one canvas to show a hand-off or a multi-screen flow. Or use no frame at all, and let the shot speak. Stage it. Choose a background that carries the work. Solid colours, gradients, mesh gradients, or your own photo or video. Or pick a living one: plasma, light leaks, particles, starfield, snowfall, embers, fireflies, silk ribbons, ripples. Then tune blur, grain and shadow until it sits right. Move the eye. On a screen recording, place zoom and pan keyframes to lead attention exactly where you want it. Cinematic motion, without opening a video editor. Make it yours. Add a logo or a text wordmark, and set its size, position, opacity and shadow. Fit the feed. Each one keeps its own colour, gradient, photo or effect layers, so you can compare options without losing your work. Add a background by starting fresh or duplicating the one you're on, then rename, duplicate or delete any of them. A small button in the Background Studio opens the same gallery, so you can switch and compare while you're still editing. ### 1.4.0 — 2026-08-22 Speed it up. A recording of real work is mostly waiting. Pick that part of the timeline and it runs fast, with a timer that says how long it really took. Speed sections Speed up any part of your recording. A speed section is a bar on the timeline: drag it to move it, pull an edge to re-time it, tap it to set how fast it runs. You also set how long it takes to get up to that speed and how long it takes to slow back down, each end on its own and each with its own curve. The clock above the timeline now shows how long your video will actually be, not how long you drew it. The timer Turn on a timer for a fast section and it counts the real time going by while the section plays. So eight seconds on screen can say four minutes of work. Put it anywhere in the frame and style it like any other text: font, weight, colour, outline, glow and shadow. Zoom A zoom under a fast section plays fast too. The zoom editor now shows how long the zoom really takes in the exported video, both for the whole zoom and for the move into the keyframe you have selected. Arrows in the header jump between keyframes, new zooms start at the playhead instead of around it, and the dots at the very start and end of the timeline are easier to tap. Clips Drag a clip into others on the same track and they move out of the way instead of blocking it. Deleting a clip closes the gap. Select a clip and grab everything after it in one tap. Linking two clips gives you a little buzz, and empty zoom and speed lanes fold away to give the space back. The clean status bar Turn it on and Skimra reads your recording from end to end. When your app’s header changes colour, the bar changes with it, at the moment it happens on screen. Its height is measured from your own footage, so it covers the real status bar and no more, and the clock, the signal bars and the battery sit on the notch or Dynamic Island’s own line. Auto keeps it tied to the recording, Picked holds a colour you choose, and Sample from recording reads it again whenever you want. When there is no flat header to match, the bar stays out of the way and says so rather than guessing. Fixed Project cards now show the length your video actually exports at. Picking a zoom or a speed section moves the playhead to the right spot, and dragging the playhead no longer leaves the preview on an old frame. The Background tab shows the real frame without the zoom, and backgrounds keep their own pace instead of speeding up with the footage. Phones stay in portrait, where the editor fits. Long button labels stay inside their button, tapping an import button twice no longer closes the picker, a crash when the preview changed clips mid-seek is gone, and exports keep the device frame on clips inside a fast section. The clean status bar no longer leaves a faint seam of the real bar along its bottom edge, and in the preview it changes colour with the picture instead of running ahead of it. Speed sections that ease in and out now export with the picture, the zoom and the overlays in step. Device frames and the clean status bar no longer zoom along with the footage when you export. ### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-10 Style your text. The text tool is the heart of this update. Any overlay can now carry a real look, not just a typeface. Fill and clip Fill your text with a gradient, or clip a photo inside the letters so the picture shows through the glyphs. Start from a style gallery and make it your own. Font previews now render in the weight and italic you picked. Made to hold up Turn on italics, and add an outline, a glow or a drop shadow so a caption stays legible over any background. A timeline you can reach into Every device now has its own track, so you drag a clip straight to where it plays instead of grabbing a container first. Long-press to group clips and move them together with their spacing intact, and drop alignment markers to line your devices up by eye. Drag a clip flush against the one before it to close a gap, and splitting a clip keeps its settings on both halves. Zoom you can set exactly Levels and positions land on a grid, so two keyframes can hold precisely the same framing instead of drifting a fraction apart. Keyframes hold their moment when you lengthen a scene, rather than stretching along with it. Long-press to gather several into a group and move them as one — and only the dots drag now, so a small miss no longer shifts the whole move. Backgrounds, your way Build a gradient of your own — as many colours as you like, at any angle, each one dialled in on the wheel or sampled straight out of your own screenshot. The built-in catalog is far bigger too — many more meshes, gradients and solids, grouped by colour. Delete every device and the background stands on its own. A cleaner frame Draw a clean status bar over your recording, its colour sampled straight from the footage. Device shadows are truer too, cast from the frame's real silhouette. The Background Studio now previews the real frame of a recording, graded the way it will export, instead of an empty bezel. Smoother exports Swipe to cancel an export, and the preview pauses while it renders. Gradient backgrounds export clean, without the banding the preview never had, and the looping preview starts over cleanly instead of sliding out of sync.
