## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — BUNS

*2026-06-01*

This app is the reason I have diabetes >:(

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2025-03-09*

Half the skeletons don’t have AR and the ones who do you have to watch a video that never loads

### 1/5 — App crashes

*2024-01-12*

This app crashes after a few seconds on iOS 17.3 Beta 1

### 1/5 — Bad bad bad

*2023-10-21*

Tried to use app multiple times but just kept crashing after the initial screen. Tried reinstalling but no luck. Wish it would work!

### 1/5 — Not as advertised—just videos

*2021-09-12*

The signs implied you could hold up the app to select skeletons (with the green logo) and see a VR with the skin on. But all it allowed us to do was play videos.

### 2/5 — Let down

*2024-09-15*

The woodpecker worked great and we were excited. Nothing else worked though. A lot of the AR needs you to watch a video first, but the video never loads. Good concept with zero follow through.

### 2/5 — Good idea, poor execution

*2017-05-06*

Loved the idea of using augmented reality. The app is so bloated with videos that it takes too long to load anything. The UI needs to be streamlined to be easier and faster to use. Too clunky.

### 2/5 — Not ready for prime time yet

*2015-01-24*

It crashed twice, autoplayed sound one time, and one overlay was very finicky in how I placed it - I quickly gave up. The concept is interesting, but it needs more testing.

### 3/5 — Awesome; some Videos Issues

*2020-04-14*

My 6 year old loves it!

Bummer is some of the videos for the featured animals do not play. All you get is a black screen.

### 3/5 — Good if you're at the museum

*2015-04-05, version 1.3*

Unfortunately the user interface is so big and clunky you never have a chance to see the entire skeleton. A "full screen" mode would bump this app up to 4 stars.

## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — DO NOT LISTEN TO THE GUY WHOS TITLE IS BUNS

*2026-06-01*

This IS LITERALLY THE BEST THING ON EARTH!!!! Do not listen to the other guy, idk what he’s on about

### 5/5 — Very useful

*2018-12-28*

It’s very useful when you visit the museum of natural history. Better bring your ear phones.

### 5/5 — Must Download and Visit the Hall!

*2015-02-24*

I am quite amazed that this app offers rich information about specimens of the Bone Hall in Museum of Natural History!
With this app, I bet you enjoy the Hall much more than before.

### 4/5 — Good for the room

*2017-04-13*

My kids loved it. Only need it for about 15 minutes. The ones that just showed the skins were very cool. The kids actually jumped when they saw the Mandrin.

### 4/5 — Interesting & Fun Gov't-funded AR

*2015-03-26*

Happy to run into this app from The Smithsonian. I was unable to visit the museum, but could actually use the AR from my iPhone pointed at my iMac's screen (with f.lux running to boot!). I think the application may look better on larger phone. The screen is too cluttered on a 5S as the menu bar never disappears, not even for movies!
