### 3/5 — Amazing app/program - poor therapist follows through

*2026-02-04*

Update: after giving my App Store review my therapist stopped chatting with me. Before she would ask me questions to stay engaged but eventually she only gave responses like “great” and then radio silence. I would have kept my subscription if she didn’t ghost me. I’d recommend the free content without a therapist.

Original: I think the program is very organized with a ton of resources, support and science backed therapy. My therapist is amazing and is a great asset in keeping me motivated and helping me learn to cope with my picking.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your kind words. We’re really glad to hear that you’re finding the programme helpful and that the resources and support are making a difference for you. We’re cheering you on every step of the way!

### 4/5 — Helpful and interesting!

*2025-06-09*

2 weeks later edit: Wow, I’m pretty impressed with how much understanding the folks had when they wrote the modules for this app. Rarely have I ever interacted with anything that felt so… I dunno, understanding? It just feels like the people who wrote these pieces really have experience with how it feels to suffer from dermatillomania/excoriation/OCD. The therapist I’m working with is very good at what she does and has had some really great insight, and it never feels Iike she’s talking down to me.

The only things I’d like to see changed now are some development updates to the app(I hate that I only get email alerts when my therapist responds to a message, push notifications would be WAY easier to track and manage) and I think the UI for the app still feels a little clunky and poorly thought out in terms of design. But those are little quality of life things that doesn’t really have much impact on the therapeutic potential. If the dev team could throw in another 10-20 hours polishing up ui and adding a few features, I think it would be perfect!

Original review: I really love that this app exists and I feel strongly that it would be helpful IF it and the website weren’t so buggy. But literally trying to sign up has been impossible- and this is after my payment was taken. :/ I can’t finish matching with a therapist due to a bug, and so I thought “ok, I’ll check out the video modules while I wait for tech support to get back to me.” Lo and behold, the app freezes up when I try to access the video page. It’s really frustrating that they’d allow payment to be taken without ensuring patients have access to care.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your honest feedback, and I'm truly sorry for the frustrating experience you've had trying to get started. We completely understand how disappointing this must feel—especially when you're ready to begin and are met with technical issues. Please know this isn’t the experience we want for anyone. If you haven't already, please email us at support@skinpick.com so we can make sure this is taken care of as soon as possible. We’ll do everything we can to make it right and ensure you get the support you signed up for. Thank you again for your patience.

### 3/5 — Move faster to stay engaged

*2025-06-06, version 3.1.5*

Program pace too slow, especially for online format

### 2/5 — Great idea, but the app is borderline unusable

*2025-05-29*

I really love that this app exists and I feel strongly that it would be helpful IF it and the website weren’t so buggy.

Hopefully I’ll get help and change the rating later, but for now, I strongly recommend passing up on this app and spending your money elsewhere unfortunately.-

### 2/5 — Subscription Makes Treatment Inaccessible

*2024-11-17, version 3.1.3*

This app used to be free. I’ve had it recommended to me by so many people and professionals as a genuinely helpful tool and yet I can’t access it for basic support because it requires a full subscription.
It should be free. It used to be free!
Body focused repetitive disorders are debilitating and gatekeeping a resource that’s been proven to help people is unethical. Especially when those resources used to be free!
I’ve suffered from skin picking for over 7 years and having access to a resource like this, even just as a tailored habit tracker, could be life-changing… but I wouldn’t know because it’s not affordable.
At the bare minimum, there should be a tiered subscription so that the basic tools can still be accessed by those who need it.

### 4/5 — A great place to start!

*2024-10-30*

Therapy is very individualized and it’s hard to replicate that in an app form. Skinpick comes close with really pulling out every option to meet clients needs (biweekly/weekly video options, chat function, support groups, modules with different graphics/embedded videos etc). I found it to be too wordy and complicated for me and I would constantly forget to use tools and functions as time went on. I think the app needs to be cleaned up a little to separate and polish up the “noise”. I have other conditions (ADHD) that I found convoluted my app experience ultimately leading me to cancel my subscription and seek a face to face specialist in network with my insurance

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for sharing your thoughtful feedback with us! We’re glad to hear that you felt supported by the range of tools and resources in the Skinpick program, and we appreciate your kind words about our efforts to create a comprehensive experience.

Your input about simplifying and streamlining the interface is really helpful, and it’s feedback like this that guides our ongoing improvements.

Thank you again for giving our program a try, and we wish you all the best in your journey.

If you ever want to return, know that we’re here to support you, and you can always get in touch with us at support@skinpick.com

### 1/5 — Used to be free but seems to have changed

*2024-09-06, version 3.1.3*

There used to be a free version of this app but now to seems the only option is to pay $65 a week.

### 1/5 — $260 a month?

*2024-06-29, version 3.1.3*

Was really excited and looking forward to this personalized program, but not for $260 a month.

### 1/5 — This seems good but it costs money

*2024-06-24, version 3.1.3*

So I have a skin picking problem and I thought this might be helpful so I download the app an it cost 65 dollars a week and I just wanted a good tracking app for free and maybe if it was like 15 dollars a week then that would have been fine but 65 DOLLARS LIKE THAT'S WAYYYY TO MUCH I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS APP

### 1/5 — No free component anymore

*2024-06-01*

I used to use this app to track my picking separately from the therapy programs offered, but I'm extremely frustrated to see that you now need to pay a $65 subscription to even use the app. I was subscribed to Skinpick's therapy program for a few months, but I was able to use the app before, during, and after the program.
Disappointing, sad to see profit get in the way of accessiblity.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the changes to our app have been frustrating for you. Our aim is to provide the highest quality support and resources, and the subscription helps us maintain and improve our services.

However, we understand your concerns about accessibility. Please reach out to us at support@skinpick.com, and we can discuss flexible options that might work for you. We value your input and are committed to making our program as accessible as possible.

### 1/5 — NOT FREE

*2024-05-23, version 3.1.3*

This app is free to download, but NOT free to use!! upon opening the app, you create an account, then are met with an unavoidable paywall. it's a waste of time and risk with your money, don't bother.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No Free Options

*2026-07-14*

This app is seriously a slap in the face. I’m disabled and make less than $1500/month and even after applying for ‘financial aid’ they still wanted to charge me $51 A WEEK to access literally any of their program! It’s incredibly dishonest that this app does not disclose in the App Store like other apps that in-app purchases are required. Since it does not say that I feel I was misled into thinking it was free and wasted several minutes creating an account. Immoral in every conceivable way, and incredibly disappointing to someone struggling and really needing help and structure. If I could give zero stars I would.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear about your experience and understand how disappointing it must have felt, especially when you were looking for support.

While our therapist-supported program is a paid service, we do offer a range of free tools and resources that may still be helpful. If you're willing, please email us at support@skinpick.com with the email address associated with your account, and we'll be happy to take a look and provide you with access to those resources. Furthermore, if any individual lets us know that finances are a concern, we do our best to find suitable options. You can also email us letting us know and we can share some of our alternative support options.

### 1/5 — price

*2026-05-31, version 3.1.8*

disappointed that this app has to be so expensive when it is coming down to mental issues.

### 1/5 — Money hungry

*2025-12-28, version 3.1.7*

Used to be free and an app recommend by my therapist because it was free. Costs a ridiculous amount now, you’re better off writing your urges and triggers in a journal or your notes app.

### 1/5 — Huge waste of time, money, effort

*2025-08-29*

A couple of years ago I went through this entire program. It took over a year and I wasted over $2,000! It did not help with picking. If anything, it made it worse. The entire program was just writing these long form answers to simple questions that I already knew the answers to and had already discussed a million times in therapy. It was like having a homework assignment where I had to write pointless essays all the time to tell myself what I already knew. It added pressure and stress to my life and a certain amount of shame for not completing them more quickly. I did not get to talk to a therapist in real time once. The therapist would just add more questions to answer and our only communication was through these essays (no video or phone or in person conversations). I would highly recommend avoiding this program and saving your money for other types of therapy.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re truly sorry to hear that the program didn’t meet your needs and that it added stress. That is never our intention, and we deeply regret that you felt this way.

We aim to be transparent about how our program works—our approach is text-based communication with therapists, combined with structured modules based on CBT, ACT, and HRT. Clients work through these modules at their own pace while receiving therapist guidance and support. Research has shown this mode of therapy to be effective for many people managing skin picking, and for many it has been a valuable and life-changing resource. That said, we also understand that this style of support may not be the right fit for everyone.

There is no obligation to complete the program, and clients are welcome to cancel at any time. We wish we had known sooner about your concerns so that we could have adapted our support and explored different ways of working with you.

If there is anything else we can do or assist you with, you can always email us at support@skinpick.com. We wish you all the best on your journey.

### 1/5 — Misleading

*2025-08-22, version 3.1.5*

App store description mentions nothing about compulsory charges, once you create an account it tells you you have to pay $100 a week with no free option (i.e. tracking without therapy)

### 1/5 — Everything is behind a paywall

*2025-07-04*

While the landing page still says there is free support, that is no longer the case. You will go through a full questionnaire only to be met with a payment page. You will not have access to any resources. Even with aid, my “discount” was $65 a *week.* Very disappointing. Would have been nice to try some tools out then see if I wanted to opt into more.

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing your feedback — we’re truly sorry to hear that your experience felt disappointing.

To clarify, we do aim to be transparent about our paid therapy service: it’s noted on the first page of the app that our program includes a subscription. That said, we absolutely understand how valuable it can be to try tools before committing. Our landing page does mention that free tools are coming soon, and in the meantime, we will send you monthly tips directly to your inbox.

If you’d like to reach out to us directly at support@skinpick.com, we’d be more than happy to unlock some free features for you — we’d love to support you however we can.

### 1/5 — Kostet viel zu viel

*2025-06-06, version 3.1.5*

Ich wollte doch nur aufhören damit. Ich wollt mich doch nur normal fühlen und dann bekommst du schon dieses Angebot und dann musst du als Schüler so viel Geld dafür zahlen. Nein danke

### 1/5 — No Free Option

*2025-03-12, version 3.1.4*

As another review stated, I’m disappointed to see there is no free version of this app. I already pay for therapy so I do not need another one. I saw this app was highly recommended, free app to help skin picking disorder. I would’ve loved to use this as a tool but I simply cannot afford to pay for use.

### 1/5 — Used to be good

*2025-03-03, version 3.1.3*

This app used to be free, and super simple. It didn’t require an account, and it simply helped track behaviours and figure out your triggers so you could implement strategies to mitigate skin picking compulsions. Now, they charge $260 PER MONTH. I would have been happy to pay a yearly subscription of even $30 to keep the app running because it helped me so much, but the current price is obscene. They try to justify it by saying therapy sessions cost that much, but my therapist who recommended this app when it was free charged $15 per session. I used to recommend this app to everyone, and I really regret doing that now.

### 1/5 — Free Version Is Gone :-(

*2025-01-02*

A few years ago it was possible to utilize this very helpful app for free; upgrading to the personalized paid version was optional, and back then the free, self-guided version turned out to be sufficient for my needs.
I eventually put it aside for a few years, but recently I decided to start using the app again. I re-downloaded the app, entered my email, was prompted to update my password (which I did), and signed in — only to find that the free version of the program no longer exists. The app is now entirely behind a
paywall, accessible only to subscribers of the personalized program — which at this writing is $65 per week.
Those of us who used to use the free, self-guided version of the app can no longer access it. I could understand if Skinpick started offering the option of a self-guided app for an annual subscription fee — for example, $65 per *year*— but what’s the sense of paying $65 per *week* to use an app that used to be gratis?
Very disappointing, to say the least.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We understand your frustration regarding the self-guided version, which is no longer available. The paid version now offers a full program, including personalized therapist support, interactive modules, exercises, and a range of digital tools, and support group sessions.

We truly appreciate your past engagement with the app and don’t want you to feel excluded. If you email us at support@skinpick.com, we’d be happy to unlock some free features for you.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts—we value your input!

### 5/5 — Could not recommend more!

*2026-08-02, version 3.1.11*

Amazing process if you’re serious about recovering from something like dermatillomania. Highly, highly recommend. It’s like any sort of therapy, you have to put in the effort and your therapist will return that effort. Made me realize a lot of my habits and caused behind my picking when I originally thought it was just a nervous habit. Provides community, consistent support, and lots of strategy to help. Before I started, I didn’t tell anyone about my struggles for a good 8 years. Now, after only a month of therapy, I’ve opened up to family, friends, and feel much less ashamed. It takes time, but 100% worth it.

### 5/5 — Just what I needed

*2026-02-10*

A brilliant starting point for me to learn about skin picking, my relationship to it and why I do it. I learned that I am not alone. I am not the only one who has the urges to pick.
I received lots of tools for learning to come to peace and possibly reduce my picking.
My therapist was brilliantly supportive. I felt heard.
A bit costly for long term membership. More frequent support groups are needed.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your feedback- it truly means so much to us. In the future, if you do decide to rejoin us, and finances are a concern, please do reach out to us at support@skinpick.com as there are a few possible alternative solutions. Wishing you all the best!

### 5/5 — Rating the “skin pick” app

*2025-12-22, version 3.1.7*

I highly recommend this app and
program! Extremely helpful and compassionate. Anyone would do well joining this program.

### 5/5 — Amazing app and program - try it!

*2025-11-24*

I think the program is very organized with a ton of resources, support and science backed therapy.

### 5/5 — First step

*2025-08-20*

I was tired of a bad habit, so I finally took the first real step forward by downloading this app. Because I was paying for it, I found it quite effective. I wanted to get my moneys worth out of the therapy provided. I learned some good coping techniques which helped me be more aware of my urges to pick. My therapist messaged me once a day every weekday. We went through the program step by step and I was provided with great insight. I already recommended this app to a friend. No therapy is typically cheap, but often times I’d say it’s worth giving it a go. This text based therapy was interesting and I do believe it was effective.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for sharing your journey and for recommending us to a friend! We’re so glad the program, tools, and daily support helped you feel more aware and supported. Your feedback not only means a lot to us but can also give others the courage to take that first step toward support. We appreciate you.

### 5/5 — Well worth it!

*2025-07-29*

As a long time sufferer with BFRBs, I was really quite hesitant to invest money in this. I have been using it for a full year now, and I am very grateful for all of the things I learned from the program and from my therapist. There are many many tools and opportunities to learn and heal. highly recommend!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for sharing your experience and kind words! We’re truly glad to hear that the program and your therapist have been helpful on your healing journey. It means a lot to us that you found value in the tools and support offered. Your recommendation means the world, thank you for trusting us and for being part of our community!

### 5/5 — Helpful

*2025-06-14, version 3.1.5*

Great program and app with helpful tools!

### 5/5 — Excellent resource, outstanding therapeutic approach

*2025-05-11*

This program allows you to work at your own pace to really better understand the underlying patterns and concerns you are facing. You are throughly supported by your therapist and encouraged to grow in a very nonjudgmental way. It has been completely transformational for me. I cannot recommend this program enough. The level of expertise and kindness and genuine care as you navigate challenging patterns is just unlike anything I’ve ever imagine could be possible.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your beautiful and heartfelt feedback! We’re honored to have been part of your transformational journey. It’s wonderful to hear how the program’s pace, support, and compassionate care have made such a meaningful difference for you. Your words could really help others who are facing similar challenges to take that important step forward. Thank you for recommending us and for sharing your experience so openly!

### 5/5 — Excellent program

*2025-03-24, version 3.1.4*

I have really benefited from this program, and I am so thankful to have found it. My therapist was awesome and really helped me work through a lot of issues I didn't even know were affecting my skin picking. I have come so far and made so much progress. I am so proud of that! And hope to continue that progress. Life has its ups and downs, so I will always keep this program in mind for later down the road if I am struggling. Thank you so much Skinpick.com! I can finally look in the mirror and love who I see

### 5/5 — I can’t believe this is actually helping

*2023-06-07, version 1.0.26*

I have used this for 2 days and I already pick less. I’m more self aware
