## What is Skopos?

Skopos is a director's viewfinder and location scouting tool built for filmmakers by a filmmaker.

Choose from hundreds of cameras and lenses to simulate the view of any kit. Track the sun's arc across the sky with real-time AR. Preview true depth of field -- spherical or anamorphic -- and grade your scout photos with film looks, all on-device. Build a scout report as you walk, and export the whole package as a print-ready PDF for your collaborators.

CINEMA VIEWFINDER
Simulate the full range of focal lengths your iPhone's lenses can cover. Aspect ratio mattes for scope, widescreen, and broadcast formats, plus an optional second "protect" matte for framing two deliverables at once. Roll/tilt level gauge and framing guides. Depth-of-field calculator and spot meter. A reference library of hundreds of camera bodies and cinema lenses, from Super 8 to IMAX.

DEPTH OF FIELD & LOOKS
Preview true depth of field through real glass: on-device depth estimation and thin-lens optics turn a T-stop and a focus tap into physically accurate falloff -- oval anamorphic bokeh included -- with focus distance, in-focus span, and hyperfocal readouts. Then grade every capture: six built-in film looks with grain and halation, full tonal color controls, and your own imported .cube LUTs. Grades follow your photos into reports and play back on your videos, including Apple Log footage.

SUN TRACKER
3D AR sun overlay locked to your camera's heading and tilt. Sunrise, sunset, and golden/blue hour times. Hour-by-hour sun position projections for any future date. Solar calculations based on NOAA models. Recorded sun paths draw live over your location videos.

LOCATIONS, PROJECTS, SHOT LISTS
Organize scouts by project. Attach photos and videos to locations, or import them from your Photos library. Build shot lists with scene grouping. Geotag everything. Sort captures by shoot order, filing order, last edit, or distance from where you stand. Pull weather, drive times, and nearby emergency facilities for each location. Film commission and permit contacts for your location (161 offices across 20 countries), plus the local emergency dispatch number wherever you're scouting.

PDF SCOUT REPORTS
Professional layout suitable for production books. Large graded photos with sun-arc overlays, sun studies, location overviews, contacts, film commission and permit info, and POI lookup. Print-ready output. Share through the standard iOS share sheet.

ICLOUD
Your locations, projects, photos, and exports save to your iCloud Drive. No third-party servers. No accounts to create.

PRIVACY
Skopos has no analytics, no ads, no tracking, and no account system. Everything -- including the machine-learning depth models -- runs on your device. Your scouts stay on your phone and in your iCloud Drive.

ABOUT THE NAME
σκοπός (skopos) -- Ancient Greek for the one who watches, the target, the aim. Same root as scope, telescope, microscope.

Great for scouting, shotlists, light metering, viewfinder, etc. — really everything you’d need on set. Can tell it was created by filmmakers for filmmakers. 5 stars.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7.8 — 2026-08-31

Film looks now available in viewfinder, and various layout improvements.

• Preview eight film looks live in the viewfinder
• Film Look and Monitor LUT now have separate controls in the Look tool
• Layout improvements on iPhone SE and in landscape
• Keyboard handling improvements

From 1.7.7: faster report exports, blank-page fix, one keyboard dismiss button.

### 1.7.7 — 2026-08-24

Faster exports and a few fixes.

• Location reports cached to avoid re-rendering -- repeated exports compile faster
• Photo export and share no longer freeze the screen while preparing
• One keyboard dismiss button across the app
• Lighter launch on large libraries
• Fixed a bug that could result in a non-destructive blank second page being inserted into PDF location exports
• User can now choose whether or not iPhone gallery saves include info footers by default

From 1.7.6: Share Report fixes, photos and contact cards in reports, shot lists from location pages, smarter featured photos.

### 1.7.6 — 2026-08-19

Fixes and small improvements.

• Share Report works again
• Reports include photos and contact cards
• Create shot lists from location pages
• Featured photos: smarter automatic picks
• Full export options for batch sharing
• Frame-rate list correct at launch
• Stalled iCloud downloads recover automatically

From 1.7.4-1.7.5: improved photo data footers, volume-button shutter, & custom lens kits.

### 1.7.5 — 2026-08-17

A quick polish pass on last week's update.

• FULL-RESOLUTION STILLS -- Photos taken in photo mode now always save at full capture resolution.

• THE FOOTER, REORDERED -- The lens leads the saved-photo footer, placing your most useful shot-finding information first.

• EXPORT IMPROVEMENTS -- Simplified batch and single capture export pipelines for easier sharing.

Missed 1.7.4? That gave every saved photo its slate-style data footer (camera, lens, FOV, heading, plus code), brought the same readout to shot-list PDFs, let shot lists attach captures without needing a project, added automatic CU / MED / WIDE shot-size suggestions, and now volume buttons also fire the shutter.

### 1.7.4 — 2026-08-16

• THE READOUT FOOTER -- iPhone gallery saves and exports include a redesigned data footer. Shotlists include the same new data readout heiarchy.

• AUTO SHOT SIZES -- Shotlist generator now prepopulates shot type (e.g. CU, MED, WIDE) with an on-device guess, expediting your compilation process.

• VOLUME-BUTTON SHUTTER -- Either volume button now fires the shutter, just like the system camera. In video mode it starts and stops the take. Works with Camera Control on iPhone 16 and later, and the buttons go back to being volume buttons the moment you leave the viewfinder.
