## What is sky_dial?

Point your phone at the night sky and know exactly what you're looking at.

SkyDial is a star and planet finder built around one idea: the sky map is only as good as its pointing. Phone compasses drift, and cars, magnetic cases and railings
throw them off by 10° or more. SkyDial lets you fix it in seconds. Aim at one bright star, confirm which one, and it corrects the error and follows you by gyroscope
  from there.

  IDENTIFY
  • Live sky with labelled stars, constellations, planets, the Moon and the Sun
  • Tap any object for its name, catalogue number, magnitude, distance, spectral type, colour and tonight's rise and set
  • Find mode guides you to any object with an on-screen arrow
  • Real star colours: blue Rigel, orange Betelgeuse

  EXPLORE
  • Time scrub: move hours, days or years and watch the sky turn
  • Tonight: the Moon's phase and what's up, for indoor and cloudy evenings
  • Constellation lines, labels and IAU boundaries
  • Guided tours: star colours, real distances, planets versus stars, changing stars and the Nakshatra
  • Optional camera view behind the sky map

  SEE WHAT YOU CAN SEE
  • Set your Bortle light-pollution class and the map shows only what your sky allows
  • Night vision mode: a red display that protects your dark adaptation, dimmed automatically after dusk

  HONEST AND SAFE
  • Magnetic interference warning tells you when the compass can't be trusted
  • Sun warning before you point at it

  PRIVACY
Location stays on your device. You can enter a city instead of using GPS.

Requires an iPhone with motion sensors.
