## What is Sky?

Sky-Map is a Moving Map navigation and flight planning system. Like the Sky-Map Versions for other platforms it contains the following functionality:

- Moving Map: Displays the actual position on digital aviation charts, like ICAO chart from DFS (Maps not included)
- Fast move and zoom of the map
- Flightplanning: Flights can be planned direct on the map or using the waypoint database.
- Routes can be saved, loaded or modified
- Calculation of distances, flighttimes, wind influence, fuelconsumption 
- Automatic display of approach/airport charts (if AIP is installed)
- Airspace warnings
- Terrain overlay and altitude warning
- "Direct to" function
- "Nearest Airports" function
- AIP Browser: displays of approach/airport charts as well as text information (if AIP is installed)
- PCMet Browser: Quick access to weather information (additional costs for pc_met access apply)
- Displays precipitation radar and GAFOR directly on the map (additional costs for pc_met access apply)
- Logbook function: automatic logging of Starttime/Position, Landingtime/Position und Flighttime
- Checklist function
- Infopanels (configurable) for Speed, Altitude, Distance, Time aso..
- Logbook and track recording in Background when in motion
  Please note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life

The software contains an worldwide basemap (not for navigation), additional charts from the Flight Planner/Sky-Map selection have to be installed.

Ich nutze diese App seit über zehn Jahren. Habe sie schon genutzt, als es noch Windows CE gab.
In-App-Käufe von ICAO-Karten kann ich noch verstehen, bei einem kostenlosen AIP im Internet erschließt sich mir das Kaufen der Flugplatzkarten jedoch nicht. Da gibt es mittlerweile Mitbewerber, die das alles inklusive haben und die App auch sehr ansprechend gestaltet ist.

Das Programm (als TabletPC-, PDA- oder Navivariante) ist führend im Bereich der Movingmap-Anwendungen. Die hier angeführten Systemabstürze liegen m. E. eher am 3G mit OS 4.01, da auch mein 3G sehr oft Abstürze aufweist. Das geht aber quer durch die zuvor gut funktionierenden Apps. Auf dem iPad läuft SkyMap opimal. Die zu den anderen Versionen noch fehlenden Funktionen kommen bestimmt noch nach. Aber für die Umsetzung und die derzeitige Variante schon jetzt *****, denn etwas Vergleichbares gibt es nicht...
Für Flüge bei sonnigem Wetter empfehle ich eine Antireflexfolie auf dem Display!

Zum wiederholten Mal sind nach einem Update alle meine User-Wegpunkte „verschwunden“. Da steckt immer eine Menge Zeit und Arbeit dahinter, sich einen Satz individueller UserPts. anzulegen. Obwohl ich beim letzten Verlust die Info an den Entwickler über dieses Problem weitergegeben habe, ist es wieder aufgetreten. Das ist hochgradig frustrierend.

Nutze Sky-Map seit vielen Jahren in D und Europa und bin nach wie vor sehr zufrieden. Wenn man sich eingearbeitet hat vergisst man kaum wieder eine der Funktionen. Die Karten werden monatlich upgedated und wenn man Fragen oder Problemchen hat kann man anrufen und bekommt meist sofort die notwendige Hilfe.  Die Software wird häufig aktualisiert und läuft störungsfrei, von ganz kleinen Ausnahmen abgesehen. Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist in Ordnung.

Sky-Map läuft super und wird stetig an die aktuellen Entwicklungen angepasst. Für mich ist es die eierlegende Wollmilchsau im Cockpit. Und das beste: Supportanfragen werden umgehend, persönlich und umfassend bearbeitet.

### 2/5 — Grauenhafte Bedienung und Design

Ich nutze Sky-Map nun seid rund einem halben Jahr. Ich habe den Kauf schon nach den ersten Gehversuchen bereut. Das Design ist auf einem Stand von iOS 6 aus dem Jahr 2012. Die Bedienung ist weder intuitiv noch robust. Man ist schnell von Kontextmenüs genervt. Ganz schlimm sind die Einstellungen. Hier wurde keinerlei Bemühung an den Tag gelegt, dem Benutzer die Navigation zu erleichtern. Der Karten-Download, bzw. Karten-Update führ zu Beginn schnell zu Frustration da auch hier keinerlei intuitive Bedienung angedacht ist. Man muss die Eigenheiten erst alle kennenlernen, dann sinkt allmählich das Frustpotential.

Das GPS-Signal des SmartPhones scheint nicht korrekt ausgewertet zu werden, denn zum Einen bewegt sich das Flugzeug ständig auf der Karte obwohl das Gerät nicht bewegt wird, zum Anderen bewegt es sich in großen Höhen oft garnicht mehr, oder zumindest nicht mit allen Achsen.

Die App stürzt auch gern mal ab.

Alle zusätzlichen Funktionen (Logbuch, Track Recorder, Weight&Balance, Checkliste, etc.), die einen Mehrwert bieten könnten, sind nur rudimentär ausgeführt und damit nicht ohne Frust (angesichts des Preise) zu verwenden.

Für das Geld bekommt man definitiv bessere Apps.

...hervorragend. Zusätzlich auch persönlicher Support bei Fragen oder Wünschen. Aus meiner Sicht geht es nicht Besser! Ist mein ständiger Begleiter vor nach und im Cockpit. Ohne - nicht mehr vorstellbar.
