And an odd detail but I love the cafe/mission menu that acts as the hub and the multiplane animated background. I think that the game has a number of unique details in its game mechanics, many of which I like, some I wish they had expanded on more. Some things like how to equip items to pilots feels a little hard to find because you sort of scroll down on certain pages to reveal where that is. I find their freemium games to be mostly unsatisfying. This one is an exception. The gameplay has been a lot of fun. Getting new planes, building your base, training your pilots and exploring on expeditions has all been good. Haven't had to pay a cent yet either to progress. Now where are those promised medals?? ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — I want to remove ads *2024-01-09, version 2.03* There’s no way to remove ads at all , sorry i don’t do ads, why would i expose myself to such a thing ? ### 1/5 — Very greedy *2018-02-14* Almost always, I have to sit through a 5 second ad when I open the app. There’s also always a banner ad at the bottom of the screen. There’s no way to disable these - I have the $12 pass, but they’d be there even if you buy the $23 one. To progress in the game, you have to gamble. It gets so difficult that you will run out of resources recovering from your failures that you can’t grow. You have to gamble on planes and parts, but also sometimes on the action cards you get. There is so much waiting. Research starts reasonable (a few hours) but then becomes days as you grow. Attaching parts and upgrading items also takes hours. The game is also difficult, but you can’t really learn from it. Planes are more or less effective against sky or ground enemies, but enemies also have resistance to some weapon types and some elements. You don’t know going in and you would have to wait hours and use items to adjust your elemental damage anyway. If a plane is shot down, you have to spend both free currencies to retrieve and repair it, and it permanently has less health unless you use a rare item. Some of my planes became basically useless after a rough level, and they’re setting you up to fail. The devs set you up to fail so you spend more money on the game. And it’s not even worth it. When you win, the game isn’t fun. You probably won’t measure up to the next challenge, or it won’t be available until you run a mission five times. And TapJoy, who they’ve paired with for free premium currency offers, is a borderline scam. I reached out to their support for an offer a little over two weeks ago and haven’t heard back. That will probably be the nail in the coffin, because the only way I saw myself being able to beat the game was gamble on good planes and parts, but I can’t bring myself to spend real money. You will find lots of description on why elsewhere. But man the game can crash. And the crashes happen often. When it happens during an “expedition”, your progress is gone. You spent 20KG on lunch? Gone. You spent a lot of time finding the right escort helper? Gone. There is no progress resumption. (Playing on iPad mini 4.) I find crashes most often when you stay in the same screen for too long. (“Long” as in more than a few seconds.) As a player, you cant fix the bug. I dont recommend rushing anything. Just in an expedition, try not to go afk. The timer is buggy and just poorly coded. This compounds with the item cap system. You are supposed to get 6 hours before excess items are removed. (Not sold not converted to anything. Removed.) Item removal does not follow any last-in first-out order. It follows some rough value order with some randomness. (Value as assigned by the game. Not in true utility. Nor is there any protection for exclusive items from draws.) So, what happens when the timer is poorly coded? I had 50 items removed after playing for half an hour! 50! 0.5 hour! If you have started the game you know the item cap starts at 30 and does not go over 120 for a long time unless you pay and even if you do it still doesnt go over 120 quickly. Figure what 50 means in game progression. I re-opened the game from last night without having to reboot the app. Presumably, the excess item status is unable to refresh the timer. Why? Poor coding is why. Here, the player can ensure to reboot the app upon a new session as long as it’s a new day. And that’s why I left a review. For the player, I hope you heed the warning and take the precaution. The bug can happen to you. For the dev, please, get the timer to work. Caching progression shouldnt be crazy costly to develop either. ### 2/5 — Decent *2020-06-02, version 1.93* Big departure from Kairosoft of old. Freemium game design is what it is.
