For the software, there are still a few issues. From an iPhone, one *CAN* change the recording interval. On an iPad, it crashes if you try to change it. (Minor for me, but annoying). There’s not really a switch to toggle data logging on or off. Instead, one uses a switch called “Always record position when turned on” YES/NO. So it’s not just setting the default, it is, in effect, a toggle. It’s a little confusing. (Minor issue). GPS lock seems good even when flying at Mach .85 across the ocean and as well as from inside my own home. So no issues with basic positioning, which tells me that it’s a pretty decent receiver. Nice feature is that it can broadcast Bluetooth GPS to multiple people (pilots on same crew for example) so that all iPads will have a good position. Other than these minor issues, the XGPS160 is just fine! ### 2/5 — Elementary functions *2024-02-07, version 3.6.20* Unable to deselect Glonass or GPS receving functions (in case of spoofing/malfunction). It worked great for a few years, then would not link to its own APP. IN FRUSTRATION, I downloaded the Owner’s Manual. While reading I came across the Mode Switch part, about choosing between Android and iOS. Looking at mine, the switch was set for iOS. But, I moved it to Android position and back to iOS position. EUREKA! It connects to the APP again. I have an XGPS160 and app is garbage, device shows promise but they don’t update firmware and even with massive changes going on in the world of GPS over the last few years they don’t even have updated hardware to the XGPS160 to take advantage of it. So, save your money. The GPS in your phone is way better and this is another manufacturer not keeping up with the times. Jepp FD Pro, WSI, SkyPath, etc. stopped giving location while in offline mode with XGPS160 receiving excellent signal. Purchased the 150 probably 7 years ago and it works great with the app for off-roading. Decided to get the 160 model 2 years ago so I could connect to both my iPad and iPhone via Bluetooth at the same time. I use this strictly with off-roading apps like Gaia here in the southwest and have been very happy with it. ### 5/5 — Read the directions for setting up the XGPS150A *2021-09-02, version 3.6.17* I connected to my iPad with no problem but the app didn’t recognize the device. You must read the directions and toggle the switch by the charge port…once I did that viola, the app and GPS worked fine. Will update after more use but so far it connects to multiple satellites and seems to do the trick. ### 5/5 — 10hz refresh vs 1hz in phone *2020-10-10, version 3.6.14* Many reviewers are missing the fact that the xGPS150 has a refresh rate of 10 times per second versus 1 time per second by the phone. This makes it invaluable when used by apps such as Track Addict or Harry’s Lap Timer on a racetrack, a situation where the phone’s built in gps has too slow of a refresh rate. ### 5/5 — Basic GPS delivers *2020-09-26, version 3.6.14* Updates position frequently. Several times a second. I don’t have much use for the app. I use third party apps on a wifi only ipad to show position. Accurate in vehicles moving at speed. Not great for walking or hiking. GPS developers have to make compromises. They optimized for vehicles over pedestrian. That’s perfect for my application as a backup position in a general aviation plane. ### 5/5 — Funciona sim IOS 13! *2020-01-27, version 3.6.11* Para funcionar IOS 13, entrar no site do fabricante, baixar a atualização Firmware mais recente e atualizar o gps manualmente. Após a atualização, o gps funciona top! Pode voar tranquilo. Hoje Firmware 4.2.4(01/2020). Não adianta tentar baixar atualização pelo app que não vai funcionar, tem que ser no pc mesmo, manualmente. I operate in the long haul international environment flying 747-8s and this receiver helps keep my Jepp Flightdeck Pro connected to robust GPS signals so that the presentation is always accurate and synced to what I’m seeing on my navigation display. I very rarely lose connectivity even when I encounter GPS jamming on some of the routes I fly.
